Day 23 update

Day 23 update

Never was planning on doing daily updates, but with the sexing/flowering coming on, and trying to determine which sex, I can use all the help I can get. Here are the latest pics. I actually got a bit excited since it appears to my novice eyes that I have buds, but the little white hairs I expected are more light green, if that is what they really are. So, what do you think?

Hydro

Soil

BUT, this is where I get nervous. To me it looks like a (exploded) pollen sack. If so, I am screwed for bud on the other plant. Its hard to see in the pic, but it kind of appears that maybe a pistil is emerging.

YES that is an open sack... kill it quick...the pic of the soil one is Definately male... hydro one looks suspect too...

Pics of ladies in early flower:

The buds should have 2 hairs popping outta each calyx, bright white... the "flowers" forming on urs are round like balls, the green "hairs" are just a small piece of leaf that grows with the pollen sack.

I've never done AF strains but that soil one is 100% male... I'd bet my stash on it.

The soil plant looks male to me, 99% certain. :( I can't tell from the other one. Fat J posted some good pics, but there are better shots that show what it looks like the very first day. Just Google cannabis sex and check the images results.

Grrrrr... pretty disappointing considering these are supposed to be feminized seeds. I know that there is a chance for males even with feminized seeds, but still pretty disappointing. I have separated the "accused" male from the other plant. I will give it a couple more days and collect the pods for pollinating some time. As it is, if the hydro plant turns out to be female, I would assume I'll have some seeds since the male already pre-came.

So, fingers crossed for a female. If the male is now just showing, females are a couple days behind per Joint Doctors. The positive thing is that the male plant was quite a bit smaller than the other, so I am hoping that its a sign.... good sign....

Other thing is that I am shocked that the male popped that quickly. Just yesterday it was still a questions as to whether it was a male or not. In a day it grew and popped a pollen pod.

Since the hydro plant has not shown any flowers, should I wash it off to flush out any pollen that might have blown on it to hopefully reduce the chance of pollination when it does flower?

Yes soil one is male for sure, hydro I am not sure, could go either way. Mist the hydro plant and it should kill any pollen and it is is not popping hairs so it can't be pollinated yet.

Nah man, dont wash it... if pollen was dropped its around the room, but that 1 pod wont turn ur whole plant 2 seed if its female. Theres not too much u can do, unless u run like a carbon scrubber, bleach down the whole room... If u save pollen, put it in a film canister (black one) in the freezer, it will keep up to 6 months like that. I dont thin ur outta the woods on the hydro one yet either. Usually best to pop more seeds than u need so u can select out the best anyway. I am always suspicious of fem seeds as they are made using hermie pollen and they thus always have the hermie gene, always a possibility.

If ur gonna spray, spray using neem oil to help make a protective barrier to prevent problems in flowering.

Day 25

Day 25

Well, it looks like the other plant is also a male, so it looks like this little grow experiment is a bit of a disappointment. So, for now I'll consider this grow diary done. Bummer. I have some Purple Jems to grow, so I'll prob try those out and hope for better results.

Yes, it does. Thanks for the help and advice all. I have 2 more of these "feminized" Lowryder 2s, so I'll try them again some day.

Hey... on the plus side, you now know exactly what male (pre/)flower nodes look like, from firsthand experience. Priceless experience - disappointing, but priceless nonetheless.

Is true. Its all about first hand experience for me at this point. Question I have is the pollen sacks seem awfully small. I was epecting something a little bigger. These things are pretty small, and due to the fact that one appears to have burst, I assume on these lowryders that they do not get very big? Back to the experience thing, I dont know how big these should get and when I should harvest them.

Well, to close this failed grow log out, I executed the large male today (actually, I needed my DWC bucket back for my Purple Jem grow). Anyways, thought I would post a final pic of the plant. Even though it turned out male, I am still kinda proud of it since it was my first plant (except for the other smaller/skinnier male in crappy soil that will die soon as well) and it grew really well. Even though it turned out male, it still was good experience and taught me quite a bit.

Anyways, snipped a couple of the larger pollen sacks off of him hoping to get some pollen. Then I chopped him and buried him.
