Well, I went to my hydro shop to re-up on supplies and my hydro guy gave me a few samples of Botanicare newest product ZHO. Has anyone else used it or tried it? I will be using tonight on my babies. Will post feedback once results are seen.

Spill from BC website
ZHO-
A unique, proprietary blend of mycorrhizae and trichoderma fungi that builds a natural microbial system in and around plant roots, greatly improving plant and root growth, vigor, and production naturally.
Beneficial fungi like mycorrhizae and trichoderma colonize on and around plants’ roots forming a symbiotic relationship with the roots. This relationship helps increase root mass up to 1000 times enabling more efficient nutrient and water uptake. These fungi also benefit plants by releasing natural chemicals that help dissolve elements like phosphorous and iron that are less available to plants in their natural state.

statements like this kinda shoot the whole thing down for me. if one part of the sales pitch is obviously bullshit, then the whole thing might be. perhaps the only benefit is in those plants that get huge root mass increases? If so, I dont know how this can help pot farmers, I bet in most grows the root mass maxes out anyway. You couldnt put another thimble of roots mass in any dwc or top drip grow Ive done, the roots just fill the space up.

If you're using a product containing trichoderma fungi with coconut coir you might want to consider that one of the selling points on coir is that it contains these fungi naturally.

Then you might want to investigate what the effects are from hi-dosing these fungi on the mycorrhizal fungi colonies.

Just a thought.

my hydro shop gave me a free sample of this stuff too. Used it yesterday while transplanting 2 plants. The instructions on the bag aren't very good. I just put like a 1/4 teaspoon in half a gal of water and watered the plants with it. According to my catalogue, this shit is really expensive. The msrp of the free sample i got was like 30 bucks. i think close to 100 for a pound of it.

I think they are referring to surface area. On a microscopic level the roots have 1000x more surface area they can use to absorb stuff. I don't think the root ball is actually suppose to get 1000x bigger. Just my thoughts.

I am not using it for any sort of growth benefits. I am using it in a DWC to displace harmful microbes.

I found this stuff for $2.50 for 1/4lbs, still waiting on the delivery so it may be too good to be true.

http://www.greendoorhydroponics.com/soil-c-37/zho-root-inoculant-1oz-p-1410 <-- .41 cents an oz?

Plus, I imagine, this stuff can be reproduced in an ACT type tea, so you really only need a little scoop to breed a whole army.

I think you are correct

Let me know your results. I caught root rot when I used this in DWC. Works great in dirt for sure!! Please list your nute sched for DWC.

There is some controversy in the brew world over adding such "critters" in your tea. I am learning as much as I can about tea's right now. I will have to look that back up to actually explain. I got a football to go to so I'll post more later today.

So far I read that mycorrhizal fungi should be added toward the end of the brew. I personally do not have the experience to call that correct.

Will do!!

Seems like just the newest company to try to make money off this, nothing special.

There are tons of products already on the market for this, some being equal rip offs, some less.

$99 a pound for myco is a joke.

The low end retail would be rooters myco or 'Oregonism' from roots organics for $42 a pound. Exact same stuff as the great white, botanicare, et al, minus the extra $60+ markup..

Most of these companies buy from Mycorrhizal Applications Inc. http://www.mycorrhizae.com/ and repackage with shiny labels for $100+ per pound... All you are buying is buzzwords and aggressive marketing plans.

You can always buy in 40lb quantity from Mycorrhizal Applications at $12 a lb if you have the need for quantity.

I just went to the sole online retailer mycorrhizae.com listed (http://mycorrhizalonline.com/default.aspx), they have a soluble/recommended for hydro product listed at 64.99 per pound and the same thing in granular form advertised as good for building roots when transplanting listed at 18.99 per pound...I have some brick coir laying about, and I never get the kind of roots I see when I use atami bagged stuff, I'm curious to see whether adding more mycorrhizae to my routine when using the brick stuff would improve my roots.
