Unknown insects killing my plants?

I've been trying to ease my crop from soil to a kind of bubbleponics system and my first experiments have all thrived for a couple of weeks, then died mysteriously. My latest one made it a month and a half in veg and about 2 weeks into flowering before succumbing to the mysterious plague. Symptoms basically are the same as underwatering even when the bucket is full. Today I noticed there were tiny insects clinging to the outside of the basket (which would have been submerged) that I've never noticed before. I'm guessing this could be the cause of my mystery deaths? They somewhat resembled larger spider mites and were all clumped together like crustaceans on the side of the basket. Does anybody know what these could be or how I could kill and/or prevent them outside of constantly changing the water and rinsing off the roots?

Oh, it's definately not unknown. It's a growing problem in the cannabis world, it's a fucking soil mite. Does it have 8 legs? Then it sure as fuck is not an aphid.
Does it look like this prick?

need pics of plants and the bugs if u can get them
moving from soil to hydro has a lot of problems. there are a lot of bugs/microbes that normally would have a lot of organic matter to eat/live on. but once you bring the plants into a hydro set up, the only organic matter becomes the plant itself. do yourself a favor and keep the rest of your soil crop in the ground and make sure you dont bring those lil fuckers in doors or you will have a really big problem on your hands.
