Pre-sexing before going outdoors.

Ok, so next year I really want to sex my plants before I put them outside. I want to do this so I don't have to take the time to dig holes and waste good soil and nutes on plants i'm just going to throw away anyway's. I know this year none of the plants started to pre-flower before early july. I started my plants may 1st and planted outside june 1st. This does'nt seem to be enough time for them to show pre-flowers before going outside. When should I start my plants indoors so they show there sex before june 1st? Also I have read up on a few early sexing techniques like cloning for sex, covering a branch that I would like to ask a few questions about. First off will a cutting show it's sex before it roots under a 12/12 light regimate in a bubble cloner? So I know that this year at 1 month old none of my plants had started branching, I noticed that they really did'nt start branching until 6 weeks with alittle LST help. Would it be possilbe to cover a node and have that node show sex? Would it be possible to cover the top shoot of the plant on a 12/12 until it shows sex then top it? Or would this stop the new growth and send the whole plant into flower? Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Also any other proven early sexing techniques would also be helpful. Thanks again.

Most male plants show sex within the first month or so.
You might want to consider feminized seeds but some folks don't like them.
Males should be showing well before July 1st but you could put them into 12/12 just to find out the sex and then let them adjust back. They will adjust. It just takes time.
Most people find out before they put all the effort into digging the big holes and such. This usually can be done before putting them into 12/12 though.

Cause I really don't have room to keep mother plants. Plus I'm just begining in the outdoor grows and am growing a few different strains outdoors next year to find strains that do the best in my area. I wanna grow out a couple sativa's, a couple indica's and a a couple 50/50's to have a varity on hand.

You could keep a mom in like 1 square foot. And have it ready to give you a buncha fem cuts a few weeks before you go outdoors.

How old would the mother have to be before I could start cloning it? I know this is the way to go but I just don't know if I could sustain a mother plant. I have a 600 watt MH but last time I used it ran my elec bill up from 140 to well over 400 on a 18/6 light cycle.

Thats why I would like to select my plants I want to grow and then start making my own seeds.
and THIS way will take you even longer
If you want to make your own seeds then you need the males
You won't be able to plant them until next summer if doing outdoor only
but you can get a mother growing indoor and take some clones which makes the clones the exact same sex and age as the mom.
If the mom is 4 months old then all the new clones will be also

Pop the beans by mid April and you should have a good idea of gender by June 1.

Popping in March would allow you to sex the plants and have clones ready by June 1.

Hey banknchips

There is a way to sex your plants before heading outdoors without damaging the plant. Growing plants on 18 hrs or so and then cutting the lights back will delay flowering in the end, so dont do that

What you can do is start the plants on 14 hrs of light. Within 30 days or so, all plan ts will begin to express sexuality through a strong preflower. Immmediately after you know the sex, crank the lights up to 15.5 so that the plants will continue in the veg state and grow normally. If you left the lights on 14 for too long, they will go into full flower so get the time up as soon as you can..

This method will also let you pick 1 male and grow it if you want to make seeds.
