Organic Growing without a trip to the "Grow Store"?

Just got back from the agway (farm/feed store) with ~8cuft of perlite for ~35bux. They have everything needed to grow start to finish (maybe sub out castings, and sub in composted manure/humus), and CHEAP.

For the stuff that I HAVE to have (fishing lures catch more fisherman than they do fish, lol) like crabshell, plant success, coco, bottles, ladybugs, room equip, etc... 4hydroponics.com (growco in MI) has great prices, and the shipping is free over $250. Plus if they have to ship something direct from a manufacturer, THEY pay to have it plain boxed.

barletta we gotta get you started on bokashi. Then all you have to do is consume shrimp, crab, and lobster. Throw the shells in the bokashi compost, and they won't hang around long in a compost pile.

I do at least one of these jobbies for each compost pile ;)

That one I made early June. I want to see how long it will 'keep' in an 'always very dimly-lit and ~60 degree basement'. I didn't add any sugars, and so far it seems to be fine - no funkier than 2-3 weeks after I make a fresh jug.

I tried a half-assed attempt at bokashi using buttermilk and yogurt in a 3 gallon bukkit (the one the crabshell comes in, lol), but it turned into a stinky fermented mess. The compost pile GOBBLED it up, though. :D

EDIT - Wouldn't that be nice :D Better than coffee, eggs, and bananas, lol.

Hey, I got some salmon oil (human supplement w/ omega 3, 6) and some ginseng/royal jelly today too. I'm lookin to see if that kicks up my 'VitaminP' feeds any. Right now it's just a time release B vitamin 2 days before 'food'.

"Organic" is getting more and more popular every year, so more stores are carrying the products. I noticed that Home Depot is carrying the full line of Espoma products this year. Do a search here, it is generally considered a good brand and used by many.
Personally, I can't over emphasize the importance of having your very own worm bin.
The casts are magic, especially when they come from worms you've befriended.

I think a person would look more suspicious buying soil and fertilizers in the winter time at a hardware store like HD or Ace then they would buying organic ferts at a hydro shop.

that's kind of funny.

Kmart and Sears carry Hydrofarm, although not sure if its stocked in your local store. You have right reason to be noid. I know a guy who got followed back from a store 90 miles to his home, got nailed two days later It was in Denver but keep in mind this was 10 years ago.

never been to a grow store/hydro shop in my life. everything can be bought at the garden centre. i do buy guano online but the brand i buy is advertised for general gardening anyway.

if the cops want to find growers then its a no-brainer to stake out the hydro store. i know people who have been busted in the states from visiting them, and quite recently, so if you do go, borrow a 'clean' friend's car or take other precautions.
