Lumatek Recall

Anyone know anything about this? I was just on www.dchydro.com website and this message was posted at the top of their home page: "LUMATEK RECALL.... RETURN YOUR LUMATEK BALLAST IMMEDIATELY. WARNING--- THIS BALLAST DOES NOT COMPLY WITH UL LISTINGS AND MAY PRESENT A HAZARD !!!" They sell lumatek's too so it cant be some sort of marketing thing.

This is interesting. I have 6 and have not had a problem. I wonder if this is true or not?

Had a first and second gen lumatek 600, they put out so much interference that it blurred my dish network and I had a Comcast guy knock on my door and inform me that my house was screwing up the entire blocks wireless. I will never buy lumatek again. I know a major store in Oregon that won't sell them because they tested the interference and got too many returns. Buy a galaxy digital you'll b happy.

good news !! my magnetic 430w ballast from hydrofarm have been performing flawlessly since the mid 1990's, without recall !!. simpler times....

Lets not turn this into a magnetic, digital, lumatek, galaxy debate please. I have heard all the bs, and have been running 2 lumateks 12 on 12 off for 2 years no problem, got 9 more of the newer dimmable, been running them for a year no problem. My cable modem is in my attic and is less than 5 feet from 3 ballasts, no problems. Don't know what everyones problem is, but I'm not special and I don't have problems, and really I'm sick of hearing about how bad lumateks are when all I have had is great experiences. Lumatek is like the AN of lighting, everyone likes to knock it before they try it. I apologize for the rant, I really need to smoke a bowl.

Anyways, I own a few of these, I'm really wondering about this recall.

Agree, even if i did not get some aswer from here and lumatek;i have tested myself wirelles work same as always, low radio interference occur 30cm from wire which is connect to socket,on the other hand consider that some maybe is at paylist from other companies...we need someone to have proper side by side digis test.

There is no mention of this on the lumatek website and a google search brings up nothing, I see other major retailers still selling them without warning. Mdhydro has the warning but they still have lumatek ballasts for sale.

I wonder if this has more to do with the liability of selling an unlisted product or if there is really a known hazard associated with them.

I have 2 dimmable lumateks been using them for a while now with no problems.

Yes,and i did all wrong according to installation manual;cut wire and connect to mogul since i have DIY reflector, running ballast on timer which not cut electricity from both legs and there is no any kind interference. What gets me angry are shitty installation manuals:"Do not bring NEUTRAL wire to socket..."HOW!?!?!Here in Europe we have BROWN WIRE - PHASE,BLUE WIRE - NEUTRAL and GROUND WIRE.
Lumatek does not have any problems, lumatek have only crappy manuals.Negative multilevel marketing this remains me..constantly at regular time intervals some one has to say "LUMATEK HAVE PROBLEMS" and second post is always "YOU SHOULD BY NEXGEN,GALAXY..ETC ETC".

I've come to the same thing. No mention on their site, no info on any type of recall using google or yahoo.

I used the old purple lumatek for years no probs. Then I got the new purple dial a watt and they are blowing new bulbs. I hear nightmares about returns from every shop I talk to. I will only use Quatums now ther are great. My shop said they have a super low failure rate.

Curious as well as to what this is about as I have an assload of them.

4 1000w Dimmable Units
12 600w 240v Only Units

ZERO problems here.

On the other hand the older 1k only lumateks that would melt down around the fuse area when the fuse didnt blow SHOULD DEFINATELY have been recalled. I fortunately did not ever own one of these units, but have a few friends that had a scare.

from mdhydro/dchydro website
DON'T TELL YOUR FRIENDS!!!
Dont tell your friends? What is that all about? If it were truly a recall wouldnt they want everyone to know about it. I'm leaning towards this being some weird MD Hydro / DC Hydro stunt. Regardless of the cheap pricing - that guy is an odd bird.

Yeah the new model lumatek ballasts still throw off tons of interference, just look up the videos on youtube.

I myself got a visit from the cable guy after switching to the 2010 "superlumens" model 1k. As such, I consider them a security risk.

No expert on how the interference gets on to the cable system and why some people have no issues with it, but I can vouch for it happening somehow.

This recall thing sounds like BS though.
