Crazy Amount of PH up needed, hmmm...

D

Durdy

Hey there ICmag! Recently it's been taking a shit ton of PH up to get my nutes mix where it needs to be, literally it takes about 300-400 PPM worth of space in the mix. I test my ph with the drops in the little test beaker, and I'm wondering if maybe it's giving me false readings because the temps have been around 100. If anyone has any idea what could be up with this please drop some info! oh and I'm using general hydroponics PH up.....

:comfort:

I can't comment on GH pH+ posting what it's derived from could be helpful to other posters.

For pH up I use Potassium sillicate, so my plants get something useful. I usually need to use pH down after though.

cheers!,

I used to use a crazy amount of GH up when I got into heavy feeding/additive use, but then I switched to Advanced Nutrients pH up - oh my is that stuff concentrated! Get back to me in 3-4 years and I'll let you know if I'm done w/ it yet, put it that way. Hahaha, went from using like anywhere from 40-80mL of GH up to like....maybe 1-2mL of the AN up.

*I usually despise anything AN.

i had that problem with GH ph up. i switched to the advanced nutrient version of ph up. and use wayyyyyyy lesss to get to my desired ph. you should give it a try if you already havent. good luck and pce

First of all ya might want to check your roots sounds like ya might have some root rot. That's pretty hot have ya considerd gettin a chiller or frozen water bottles or tring to cool the room the rez is in. No expert just one option

Maryanne - I'm not sure what it's derived from, the bottle doesn't say.

Norkali - I used to use the AN ph adjusters, i loved em they def did the job! probably time to go back.

Jacuzzi - is a silicate the same as silica? I currently use botanicare silica blast to help with the extreme heat conditions.

Hammerhead - yea the AN stuff is powerful! when i used to use it it would get in cuts on my toes from surfing and burn like a fucking bitch!

DGR - Besides the temperatures i started using advanced nutrients big bud as well as hi-brix mollasses. They started flowering three weeks ago as well so there getting much more food.

Sneakinman - I definitely agree! thanks!

Stillsmokin - It's actually am outdoor semi-greehouse grow. The temperature thing is outta my hands. I try to avoid root rot issues by watering in the morning, my tanks are outside and it gets down to around 60 degrees at night, so the water should be around that temperature when i water.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll have to post some pictures soon, i've just been swamped with work and school though.

ya its sodium silicate and potassium silicate the botanicare stuff was what I was thinking about getting. I hear it brings pH up quite a bit and has benefits for the plants. Oh and about the temperature affecting pH high temps raise pH not lower it.

Jacuzzi - It's supposed to help plants deal with "extreme" conditions, and as far as I can tell it works! After i started using it they started looking better when the temps would climb towards 100. However it doesn't seem to be helping raise my PH, i only use about 1/2 a tsp per gallon.

Stillsmokin - Thanks, the temps finally fell again today! hopefully they stay that way but where i live september tends to be the hottest month of the year.

Man that sounds like way to much id suggest investin in a meter. What is your medium? Mabey try flushing with some clearex or somthing clay pellets and things can make your ppm go up from residual nutes on them I guess mabey its something like that? Also what stage are you in how many ppms are ya trying to run?

Success! i went and got myself some advanced nutrients PH up, just mixed up a batch and it buffered it with two cap fulls rather then 10!

stillsmokin - I have a meter, check PPM every time, thats why i was getting so concerned when the amount of PH up needed before was increasing my PPM by 300! I'll be in week four of flower on monday, at which point i'll be feeding them a mix at about 1400ppm, i tend to take it to 1600 then work my way back down till flushing time. My medium was originally roots organic coco when they were in 10 gallon pots, then i transplanted them into 20 gallons and used a 70% sphagnum and 30% perlite mix (hoping they would retain more water with my extreme heat conditions) I use smart pots, and grow in an 8 x 10 greenhouse that is raised with cinder blocks and has vents. Four girls going right now ranging between 5 and 7 feet tall. Started from seed about three months ago. Hopefully I can get ahold of a camera soon and start a grow journal, I've been totally swamped with work and school though, busy literally everyday of the week :/ but lovin it none the less, can't wait for harvest time!

Stillsmokin - By the way they got a solid flush today! should be back on track by next week!
