Young Plants Leaves Curling Upwards

So I have done a bunch of googling and this seems to have happened to a few people in the past, but never could get a solid answer.

I have not been over watering - only every 4 days or so. Temps are 76-80 F. Soil is 70% FFOF and 30% quality top soil. Light is a 90w T5 about 10inches away. Plants are about 12 days old.

Only thing that is not in tip top shape is that I am using tap water without any ph testing. Can PH problems do this? The weird thing is the 2 other baby's are not showing signs of this but they are a different strain.

Any suggestions?

Yup...your pH is probably 8+...you need to add dolomite lime to the soil when you mix it. Or, correct your water...I'd do both. You better hurry...it won't be long until it's too late. Personally, I'd redo my soil, fix my water, and try again.

My plants do that all the time. No matter what the grow method, pH or nute levels. Usually begins about mid flower though.

UPPER RIGHT CORNER, LEAF CURLING

Ebb/flow, pH 5.8, EC 1.6, 1000W, 24C or 75F.

Just always happens with this unknown indica strain.

im having the same problem, when seeds first popped cotyledon leaves it almost looked like light burn (like in your picture) a single brown spot dead center on the stem surrounded by yellowing and then curl and crispy.

(the pictures are all the same plant, the first 2 were from yesterday, the last 2 are from last night and this morning. the little bit of white you may see in the last pic is from trying to spray the problem away with weak nutes.)

3 plants (3 weeks old, started from bagseed under CFL), 1 (fastest bushiest plant) shows heavy yellowing/leaf curl/necrosis on bottom most leaves. other plants show minimal signs. i started with bottled water and just recently tested it to see that it too had a PH of around 8. i just got a reliable testing kit and some PH down from pet smart in the fish section. they will be drinking PH 6.4 from here on out, ill let you know how it goes.

It should do fine... pH is VERY important. You were locking shit out...but it looked like you were burning it.

This is the reason I stopped using FFOF soil..and the very first grow in which I did not use FFOF, my shit was perfect.....make your own soil next run, its way easy and ALOT better....

ph needs to be taken care of first of all 6.5 is ideal for soil. But it looks like to low humidity . leaves start to canoe because there trying to keep all there moistur. not good because stomatas also close. you need to get your humidity arounf 60 to 70 with babies like that.

I think that the upwards curling comes usually from too high temps. At least mine had that problem when there was too hot for them.

Epicseeds:

The first thing you should always do a the first sign of any nutrient related trouble is check your Ph. Do you know if your tap water is hard? If it is hard do you have a water softener? Water softeners replace the calcium in water with sodium and will lockout nutrients. Buying water that has been distilled or treated by reverse osmosis is worth it, bad tap water kills plants. Your temperature is perfect so you do not have heat stress your plants are showing signs of deficiencies of several nutrients. FFOF has all the nutrients your plants will need for their first few weeks so your problems are Ph related.

I have growing for many years under T5 lights, they are the best for small plants. Your plants are stretching badly they should be wider than they are tall for the first 3 weeks under T5s. 10 inches is way to high above the canopy. T5s should be kept 2 inches from the tops of your plants, just make sure you have fans setup to blow away the hot air coming off the bulbs to prevent heat build up.

Magnesium deficiency is common starting mid-flowering and your girls are a textbook example of magnesium deficiency. Get some Cal-Mag or epsom salt, use 1/4 tsp per gallon of water. Or better switch to a fertilizer that has enough magnesium in it.

Heat stress, has definately caused my leaves to curl like that.

also, if my problem is not the same please let me know. ;)

p.s. how do you add pictures like you did?

just upload the pics to a image hosting site such as tinypic.com

my plants are doing much better now. i ended up moving the light up higher and was sure to only water when it absolutely needed to be watered. i always used tap water and i just recently got a ph meter and my tap water is at almost 8PH. though the problem went away before i discovered this it may have contributed but i dont think it did by much.
