What's new

Should I be worried about this?

Growing this plant outdoors feeding Fox Farm nutrients.

I found this on my plants a couple weeks ago. It looks like someone spilled milk on my plants and it dries up.

What is it?

IT IS NOT POWDERY MILDEW. I've had PM before and this is not PM.

I did think it might be bird shit but not sure... doesn't seem thick enough to be feces.

Definitely not PM, I know that last pick kinda looks like PM but I assure you it is not.

Most likely NOT nute spillage. This plant is over six ft tall from bottom of pot to top of plant. This white "film" was found at the top of the plant.

Looks as if your plant kinda sits under the eve of the roof some????
Watering tactic i asume...

Could it possibly be some thing from your roof??The roof looks to be a bright color.....just a thought

The container is 20 gallons but probably filled with 15 gallons soil (80% soil from a local nursery and 20% perlite.)

The plant height from the bottom of the container is over 6 ft.

Also,

water from the roof doesn't hit the plant.

Just using foxfarm grow big and now tiger and big bloom

mixing with tap water left out for a day

thanks for the responses.

well either it's some sort of foliar spray residue or it's bird shit.. and yes, bird shit (especially seagull) comes in many consistencies.

I do not use a foliar spray.

(if only I knew what bird shit tastes like...)

I do live in southern cali. Maaaybe I should go lay on the beach with my tongue out under some seagulls...

Didn't know there were shit experts on this sight. Thanks Tommy T.

Could be just from tap water that dried on the leaves if your water is hard, it would be mostly calcium. Or just some dust that the morning dew washed down part of the leaf. Or PM ;)

Iliketolearn(me too). I just posted pics of what I think is pm, but your pics look an awful lot like some of my ladies' leaves. I initially thought it was birdshit, I know I have it on my plants. What I think is pm also could be growth on the interior leaves from birdshit splatter??? Why do you think what you have isn't pm? Do you(your have any interior leaves like the pic attached? Second pic is some weird perimeter thing. Neo420 I'm googling downy mildew now; I think I read where there are thousands of mildew varieties.

Thats what it looks like to me. DM. That stuff has the ability to look like splatter. You are correct in there are many different types of mildew. PM just happens to be a common one in our circles but the outdoor folks would be more inclined to see some of the other "mildews". Apply water water and see if it washes away or washes away and comes back. It it does stay or comes back, go out and get some type of fungicide or spore killer.
