NorCAL GrandDaddyPurple 2kW in CoCo - Production Run

Ok... so I been growin 4 a while now, done a buncha rounds looking for that special strain... made some mommies, made some clones, but my love of mixed genetics has always hurt the bottom line. :tiphat:

Last run, I had some amazing herb, and was very happy with the variety. I had a buncha clones, and not enough space for them. I ended up with 30+ girls ready to go when I still had 3+ weeks left of flower. No money for gear, inadequate ventilation and space, space, space. Said fuck it! Gave away as many as I could and turned the rest into kindling. Finished my bloom room n took a few weeks off.

The granddaddy was fucking spectacular - it has the taste, the look, the smell, the stone - complete package. Not sure the exact cross but many ppl are surprized its GDP when they smoke it, it is a keeper. As luck has it, I have a reliable connect for that strain and get really good deals on the clones. So I started up again - No veg room for now - just the 28 clones which are now in 2gals.

I pruned them savagely in veg, but let em go a touch too long. So my space is cramped, but the nodes look great n my room is ookin very happy - a bit cramped, but happy.

Also switched the flood/drain to a top-fed recirc system, its working much better, in fact they were a bit too happy, more growth during early bloom than i have seen in any of my grows before. :jump:

Gonna take some pics tonight - look how leafy they are already - i removed all the big leaves 2 days ago... all of them! they are pretty happy.

Hope I have some friends stop by and enjoy my little garden, high to all my friends - old and new.

I'm in da house now fo sho :D :D :D

What's up FatJ? Thought I'd drop in and follow along here..... if it's not interesting I'll send you aids in the mail lol ;)

No money for gear was one of the biggest issues for the last grow and now the beginning of this one. Things are getting better but yeah, hard to scrape extra dough these days and keep the power bill paid

So whats the taste and high like on the GDP? I can get any of these strains locally and need to start zeroing in on a few.

Pics look great, can't wait to see things start cooking.

Hey, GS! it's a party now, glad u could make it ^.^ The GDP smells VERY fruity, kinda berry smell, very fruity flavor and smell/taste has a diesely kinda kick, dense, purple buds when fully ripe. When its in its prime 50-60% amber, its a savage couchlock. It's the easiest strain ive grown, not #1 producer, but great all-around. Real GDP has the smell, look, taste, all round great, everybody loves it. Ive done HashP, j-27, Green Crack, blue dream(1 real, 1 bs), Black Dom, many bagseed, rockbud, headband, grape ape, many many skunks... gdp was my favorite - balancing all facets, 2nd fav was j-27 (killll yield-up high), 3rd was GC... the real Blue dream was great as well, but seemed to lack the kick in the ass feeling i like from my bud. Hehe, I like it... thats why i picked it for mono this round. If you can get real deal GDP, its worth checking out.

Downside with GDP - there are many strains that are called GDP but are not. I only trust old hippies for this one ^.^ There are also a lot of nice crosses of her out there, but I like the original the best.

Original GDP was 1 of 3 phenos from the original purple from mendo. The other 2 phenos were named Purple Erkle and Grape ape ^.^

MM -> Thanks man ;-) I hope they fatten up as well, thanks for stopping by.

Pics! Not totally lazy today... tho the color correction is sloppy.

Hey there, save a chair for me. I've been watchin a friend get his GDP bag started also, he's got four momas and few lil ones almost done. They look good so far and came from a reliable CO. source. Guess i will have to take my buddy some notes, he does alot of waterfarms. thx again.

GD - Hell ya, we got plenty o chairs... just most look like 5gal buckets ^.^ hope she goes as well for your friend as she has for me. One piece of advice - GDP prefers slightly weaker nutes than most strains, she can even get tip burn @ 1200 ppm. I would reccommend ur friend use a 10% weaker nute solution than his/her typical run. But yeah, shes hard 2 go wrong with... lotsa ppl here grow her but not a lot can really make her beautiful. I use floralicious boom and flora nectar in bloom per gh schedule - with FNB. Nice, easy, cheap... I'm gonna try blackstrap with my flush this time too, have heard too many good things about it to not try it. Will still flush water only last week. Also I let em go till almost all the fans are gone yellow and the buds are saggin from weight. She does well with all training methods.

Killa - Whazzzaaaap? Thanks 4 stoppin by and yeah, I'm finally gettin this topfeed coco system dialed in and i must say I like what I see. Hope I keep it up ^.^ lot more plants than im used 2 n let em veg 2 long, oh well ;-)

Gonna do the final round of bigleafing tonight, ill post pics, youll be able 2 see a lot more.

lookin good in here for sure. I'll be along for this ride.

also so 1200ppm is low? i just grew a strain that burnt at 850ppm and thought that was high.

Well.... I use a .5 conversion hanna meter - have had some strains that were very happy at 1300 (using pk boost)

1300 total ppm that is, and im using coco which does well with high ec - 180 of that is calcium/etc starting in my tap water. Some strains like it strong, some like it weaker. I try 2 peak my ppm at 1000-1100, then drop it last weeks till I'm just runnin ph'd tap for last 2 weeks.

Pics! Before/after bigleafin:

leafs removed:

They are startin 2 smell tasty, brushed a top while pruning last night, my hand smelled like grape all night, couldnt stop sniffin it ^^

Closin in on 4 weeks, gonna make the nutes just a touch stronger for this res... may drain the res this time, im lazy tho n theres only like 10gal left in it - usin liquid koolbloom now, will hit with powder inna week, then ill be a week from starting flush, unless the ladies say they want more time.

that's right man!! i like some defoliation like this the plants get fresh air down and maybe more light coming inside after for sure they get a positive increment of final weight, this what i think !!
great job !!

Yeah, u gotta watch that coco. It usually hits at around 200 ppm right out the bag. So what kind of setup are we lookin at here? 600's? 1000's? Have you been using Big Bud for weeks 2-4? After your phosphate bomb and some overdrive they should be lookin pretty sexy! I'll be watching your lovely robust ladies homeboy.........

Thanks kw, next round I tink ill ven go more extreme with it, dont wanna shock em this round tho.

Thanks PJ - should really start lookin good soon ^.^

SoG - 2x 1k eye horti on mag ballasts, no I dont use big bud, used 2 do foxfarm adds but last round I did the same nutes im doin this time - worked great, if you have the ratios right, I think additives are mostly a waste of time. The FNB seems to hit it about perfect, like the floralicious, cuz it seems 2 help the strains natural smell come thru more, and the liquid koolbloom just to kick em into gear, gonnd drop some kb powder to give em a lil extra kick so they keep pushin new calys. I always use 1/2 strength reccomended for additives and for this strain try 2 run my res a bit weaker than for others. barely any tip-burn, so I think they like it... bout 4-5 more weeks to go, I can't wait.

(oh, I lied, every other resi fill I put dripclean in (H&G) at reccomended dose. It really seems 2 keep the salts soluble)

Went in tonight... they are lookin so sexy... gotta take pics, but not tonight. They are all gettin gooey n fat n purty. Added a buncha water to get the ppm back down to 800 as it had spiked - prolly due to the higher heat lately (more evap) I have a few tip burns on some ladies, but after I weakened the res last nightthey seem to be happier.

Pics soon ^.^ they are starting to get their signature "rotting fruit" smell... mmmm mmmm dank.

was the removing of leaves only for light? don't the plants need the energy? does this promote hormones for budding? should everyone remove that many green leaves even in outdoor or other methods? what week into flower did you remove leaves and what week into flower they at now?
