Good places to buy mini split ac?

T

Teeg420

Hey guys was wondering where you guys bought your mini split? Have looked up a couple of places and heard horror stories, yea I know people are more likely to talk about the bad. I am used to walking into a store to purchase something especially if it cost 2k plus but they are not many ac retailers where I live.

Ac-world seems kind of shady, 13 seer ac no name brand that you hook up yourself.

Acwholesalers . com seems like a good one the cheapest of them overall.

any other places you guys recommend?

Thanks

I don't think mini splits are sold at stores, I wish they were. I think most of the internet suppliers are good, but research the model you want, and then buy from whomever looks most professional, and closest. Mini splits are usually too heavy to ship UPS, they come frieght, so you have to wait around on the day they show up and inspect the package before you sign for it. If you sign for one somebody punched with a fork truck, you'll own it.

Yep dunkydunk thats what the customer service rep said, Look over it before you sign make sure the condenser isnt damaged because once I sign its all mine.

go with the "mitsubishi" ,"LG" ,or "sanyo" , most of the rest r junkier/not good quality

once u have the item (mini-split) r u the one thats gonna install it??

if pre-flared linesets r available, get em they're worth the expense. u will need to vacuum the air outa the lines to check for leaks before u open the valves and charge your lines (most units come w/refrigerant pre-cahrged in the condenser section)

GOOD LUCK and dont go w/ some cheap brand or u will be very sorry!!

Hey Teeg,

I just installed my own mini-split, sounding very similar to where I was 6 mo. ago. I bought online from a site, Kingerson's.com. After much research and reading, I got a Friedrich 2 ton, with the inverter. Friedrich has an good reputation and the seer is 18, I think. Kingersons beat the nearest competitor by 200$.

The feature that drew me to the Friedrich was that the compressor will continue to operate as needed when the outside temps. drop, but I still need to cool my room. WATCH OUT alot of the LG, Sanyo, and the rest won't let the compressors run when the ambient dips below 56f. My room is not sealed yet, but it will be soon, and I won't have to worry about my room temps.

So far the power savings are substantial.

Last summer I ran an airconditioned crate in my SoCal garage. Window A/C in a box, with ducted air for the A/C.

Around the New Year, I built a room around the crate.

The crate is the veg area, the new room is for flowering.

The mini-split has been doing great, yesterday the patio topped out at 108f. Havin' a heat wave round here.

'Nother tip, don't assume the flares on the pre-made linesets are good, my lowpressure line had an uneven flare. Required a return visit from HVAC....not cool. Inspect yours before assembly. If I had suspected such a problem, I would have rather aquired the materials and flare tool to make my own.

Good Luck, let me know if I can help.

Respect,

Go on EBAY.... Type in 'LG Split' go to highest price and there they are... Shipping is only $75

Or if youre in the so cal area go directly to Turbo Air in Carson, Ca 888-900-1002 I buy everything from them even though its a far drive for me.

9000/9000btu indoor units, 24000btu outdoor $1247
9000/12000btu indoor 24000btu outdoor $1448
12000/12000btu indoor 24000btu outdoor $1649
All Seer 16.5
Oh... and the amperages are sweet!! 8A for outdoor, and .2A indoor each unit....SWEET

I bought mine from www.harborpointac.com . So far, so good. I called in and was given a better price than the website without even asking.

I installed them, and had an A/C guy pull a vacuum and check the connections for leaks.

Ahhh, Mr. Slim. I just did a diy install on a Mr. Slim 12k and it runs so well I'm not sure it's working properly.

ramsond.com you dont need to vac the lines out with this unit and they run great. It has a blow out valve to clear the lines like a tire. They have great tech support and they ship fast. AND NO I DONT WORK FOR THEM OR ADVANCED NUTRIENTS EITHER LOL

You can probably get away with doing it that way but it's not the best way. There are a few videos on youtube of people installing these and then burping the shrader valve 3 times and running it like that with no problems. I got my Celeira 9K btu from acworld and that's how they told me to do it myself.
My ac guy told me that it may work that way but he said not to do it like that.
I signed the note the shipper left on the first delivery attempt so they left it on the front porch on the second attempt.
Of course it was dented on the side from inadequate packaging but it was just the outer case and just cosmetic.
It was pretty easy for me to install, my friend came over, hooked the lines up and vacuumed it down. I gave him $80 for his time.
My room is only about 100 sq ft and this thing is like an ice cube factory, I love it.

Yea those ramsond units are only 13 seer though, is there it that much of a electricity savings between 13 to 16?

Prob not much difference from 13 to 16 BUT it would be a huge difference to go from 13 to 23...

http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Slim-Single-Ductless-Conditioner/dp/B003K84ETM

The main thing I love about mine is the fact that it heats and cools to maintain the temp I want day and night.
Mine does not have a day/night temp difference which is fine with me.
I had planned to let my CHHC-4 controller run my mini split to be able to have a temp diff between day and night.
But, I'd rather just run the mini in auto mode and let it do it's thing. And my humidity is never too high that the dehum comes on.
Like I said, I got a cheap one from acworld it was 3/4ton with heat pump for 800 delivered. That Mr Slim looks sweet, the inverter compressor is very quiet. But 1500 is a lot of $$.

I thought about getting the heat pump but I live on the coast so I am not subject to really cold nights, plus I run my dehuey at lights off so it acts as a heater and if it gets too hot ac will kick for a little bit.

so riddle me this, I have been pondering this for a long time. Which unit will run when the outside temps are freezeing your ball hairs off, 0-30F
