Looking for a new, GOOD soil.

Iv'e been using potting soil from hardware stores. Results are ok. Iv'e been looking at some different ones and thinking about trying something new in hopes to get bigger yields. Some of the few are, sunshine mix1, coco blend black gold, happy frog and light warrior. Can anyone give me some feedback on what has worked well? It's all more expensive than what I use. I'm wondering how much of a difference I would see in the plants?

Does anyone have any recommendations on soils? Soil mixes, coco mixes? I'm always a little liery to try out new things. I guess I could do one or a couple plants with something different and compare. But if anyone has already done thier own tests and has some good tips, I'd love to hear. I used miracle grow, then switched to schultz because it was a little lighter and more airy and the plants seemed to like it better than the miracle grow. The one big problem I see with these commercial brands is the consistancy. One bag will be different from the next bag I open. So I'm thinking about making my own or switching to something else. The bottom line pretty much is... I need bigger yields! I don't know if it's in my nutes? Chemical in veg and fox farm big bloom in flower. Any advice or tips will be appreciated. Thanks!

A bail of Pro-mix is cheap for what you get out of it ands it works pretty good. You should start trying to learn how to add things to your soil to re-use it and make it better. All the info is here in the forums.

A really easy mix that did me well for a while was 50/50 FFOF/FFLW adding about 1:5 ratio of EWC:mix plus about 2TBSP of dolomite lime (this was pelletized so you may use less if its powdered because OF has some). I fed with PBP every couple waterings, but it was an overall good mix that lasted all through flower as long as it wasn't a realllly long veg.

Other then that, the organics for beginners in organic forum has some really good easy mixes to make.

Go to Lowes and get some Sta-Green Nursery Blend Planting Mix. Add some perlite and you're ready to go. At $7 for 2 cubic feet you will not find a cheaper yet effective soil.

im just using FFOF mixed with FFLW. its decently cheap only 9 bucks a bag. i dont even add microfungi or additives...just use that with regular FF nutes and i got some pretty nice results quality wise...my genetics helped but they came out better than my homie who used coco.

I like B'cuzz Pro-Mix, and use it right out of the bag with nothing added. I typically pull 2-2.5oz/ft2 (dry/cured) with almost every strain. No extra work, no guessing, no issues, no problems. YMMV.

I've used FF Happy Frog real good, but kinda pricey and no wheres in town carries it and shipping on a bag of soil is expensive. Miracle Grow Organic is alright, but not to great and a little pricey. Can't speak for a total grow yet, but Jiffy Organic tomato and vegie planting mix is working out nicely. It was about 7 bucks, I got it on clearance for $2, 2 C.F. Also got gnats from all, but the Jiffy mix.

Im really liking my 1/3 Perlite and 2/3 Fox Farms Ocean Forest. My plants are growing much healthier and faster this time around, and I only paid 15 bucks for a bag of it. The Miracle grow potting soil is only a couple bucks cheaper.

I'm a Moonshine's mix guy all the way
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=23970

just mix the 3 bags together, add some more perlite, and some lime, and all you need to add during growth is water,...watch the Ph, and (depending on your water) if you add lime when you blend the soil you don't even need to adjust the Ph of the water,....at ALL.

easy, not that expensive (a batch runs me about $50= enough for 9 five gallon buckets)

I've used happy frog instead of the red potting mix with "ok" results, I've also used Power Flower instead of the red potting mix with spectacular results, but I always stick with the OF/LW-something bat guano/worm castings

Here's some Grape Ape I harvested a few months ago

on these I supplemented 2tbs/gal BS molasses during the first 4 weeks of flower, but that's it, just water (filtered, NOT RO), for the entire grow, using moonshine's mix (with perlite & lime added)

if you can't spend $50 to grow a couple thousand dollars worth of bud, somethings wrong with your logic. (even if you never sell it)

3pts FF OF and 1 pt Perlite, nice lite and airy, drains well and has all the nutes you need for 30 days, amend it with things like ewc, bone-blood-kelp meal and its good for longer.
$13.95 a bag, $40-$50 makes 7-8 5-gallon pots
so it averages out to 6-7 bucks a 5 gal pot

I use the cheap stuff and avoid anything with "pine products" and/or "composted pine products as a top-three ingredient. IMO, pine bark and chunks are what make the cheap stuff worthless unless your growing azaleas or other, acid-loving plants. Some of the cheap stuff, ($2 to $3 per bag) has humus as well.

I use Bio-Bizz light mix for my small plants/clones, I transfer them from 1 Ltr pots into 10 Ltr pots with Bio-Bizz All Mix. I used to add extra perlite but there is no need, Bio-Bizz is on of the best IMO.
