opinions on lc's mix in flower

as i've wrote about in other threads, here's my situation..i use lc's mix with recipe#1..bone,blood,kelp meal, dolomite lime, peat, compost and manure..i always let it cook for a couple months..grow northern light clones....this time when i put plants in 12/12,at least 2/3 of the fan leaves had turned yellow,(some with copper colored ends) and died..next crop, what can i add to the mix to stop this?

You should refer to the infirmary sticky "the complete guide...." to narrow down what exactly is happening but it sounds like you're plants are using up all the nitrogen in the soil before they start to flower. Do you feed at all? How long do you veg? If you are making your own compost are you adding plenty of high nitrogen feed to it?

Kelp meal gets my guess...

I added kelp meal once to my mix and when I did I added it at the same ratio as I added the blood and bone meal and I had a simular effect soon as I flipped the plants.

Prior to adding the kelp I never seen the problem, After decreasing the ammount of kelp added by 1/2 I never seen the problem either...

1 try not adding any kelp meal and just use a kelp tea feeding at the onset of flowers...

1 part kelp meal 3 or 4 parts water soak for 24 hrs and strain....

Or leave the kelp meal out and do a feed with a pk booster.

Or reduce the kelp meal added to the mix by 1/2.

blazeoneup, the plants that this happened to are in 1.5 gllon buckets, were only vegged for 2 weeks(clones)and are under a 400 hps with supplemental fluoros.....the next ones that'll go into flower room are in 5 gallon buckets(will go into 10 gallon containers eventually)will have been vegged for 3 months(in 21 more days) and i'm gonna put them under a screen(scrog)under a 1000 hps...do you think that'll make a difference?...already got 50 gallons of lc's mix made up and in a barrel...been cookin for 2 months

It's very possible you could have vegged long enough to allow the kelp meal to break down and the plants will be large enough and strong enough to handle it.

Here is a shot of the crop that the kelp meal caused me problems with. Like I said previously this round had kelp meal added and look what happened, Prior to adding the kelp meal 10+ runs using the mix never happened, Soon as I added the kelp this happened so I am 100% sure the kelp caused it.

That and you will know what needs done to fix this in all your future runs even if it still shows up with extended veg!

You might consider adding some amendments (alfalfa etc) for additional N. I highly doubt the plants used up all of the goodies in the soil in 1 grow. I would think that more likely, the amendments are still breaking down and becoming available.

I have (and still do) add light feeds of some organic liquid nutrients during my grows. When I don't, I see slower growth and sometimes slight N & P deficiencies. Especially if you are using higher watt lights forcing faster growth.

I have determined that this extra feed is necessary by doing side by sides, with and without some extra nutes. It doesn't take much, but IMO, it is needed under these conditions. I use basically a half rate of a good nute (veg or flower) in my water (along with kelp, molasses, teas etc.) to insure there are adequate nutes available to my plants throughout most of the grow.

I may take shit from the LC crowd, but this is what I need to do to get satisfactory results, so I do.

My 2 cents

would n deficiency cause the fan leaf tips to turn copper color?
