carbon filter size for bedroom?

I will be running 4kw in a master bedroom, 2 4x8 tables. The room is roughly 12x18, just guessing.

Do i need to go based on the size of the room or can I go a little smaller since I wont have a room full of plants?

i am leaning towards a can 150. I really cant afford it but I REALLY cant afford a security issue

typically you would want to, at least, be able exhaust the whole volume (W x L x H) of the room in 5 mins.

This will give you an idea of the minimum exhaust fan system you will need for the room. Match the Filter CFM rating to the exhaust cfm rating as best as you can..

If you are using CO2 you should find someone with experience in that to chime in and tell you how that would effect the calculations. I do not use added CO2, just fresh air.

Personally, I typically overkill my exhaust and I suggest others to do the same. I like to calculate the NEEDED cfm and double it. If I need a 200 cfm fan. I then get a 400 cfm fan and matching Filter. Then I just run it slower on a speed controller. This ensures I have plenty of exhaust ability with room to speed it up if necessary. Also, since the carbon is more effective the slower the air passes over it this method allows you to get sufficient exhaust for your room volume while also maximizing the effectiveness of your filter.

good luck.

need to get one based on cfm of fan and room size no matter how many plants really....

Yeah I figured I was going to go based on room size.

I have always run sealed rooms, and I am not sure if this will be sealed or not. I have most of what I need, AC, generator, etc. Biggest missing piece is a controller.

In a sealed room, I just recirculate and use the biggest filter I can get.

For now I think i will just exhaust the room. I just wanted to see if there was any support for a smaller filter based on the fact the room is not full of plants.

Why step backwards? If you've always done sealed... have the space and equipment for the most - Why go FAE?

This is MY personal opinion - but CGE is way better. You're able to better control everything, and you can provide the optimal conditions best.

Just me, but if you've always done sealed, it seems to be a step backwards to do FAE.

I am rebuilding, starting over

I am using what I got(hoods, pumps, ballasts, etc) and don't have much money left over. Some of my equipment was sold or taken. I have sold some toys to put this op together.

You should see the old school hoods I am using...

It would also be easier to just exhaust the room now. I have a 24k BTU AC but would need to run electrical, build a box etc.

If I got a controller I would go with a CHHC and I just dont have $600

I am still undecided though. Maybe I will go with a cheap controller. The yield difference would cover the cost and I could upgrade later.

If all you're trying to do is scrap something together - go for it. If you got jacked recently just keep it small (hopefully not in same location) and flip it quick. Get a mother, SOG it, and flip that way you can just quickly set back up for CGE. You're so close to it that I think it wouldnt be worth your time to dump costs into a FAE. Just set up a little grow, Sog style because you'll flip costs so quickly you'll have you're CGE before you know it.

Having old equipment wont have much to do with it - A old sun system 2 is just as quality as a new one, maybe just not as pretty. The only things i would worry about are those that can degrade with time or use... Meters, ballasts, bulbs, ferts. But most anything else will be good new or old.

Some 2x4's, Black/White Poly, new ducting, new fets and go for it.

I cant sog right now. I have about 20 rooted clones that are vegging and once they are big enough, I am going to run with them. Maybe I will pull enough clones to SOG the other table. They were taken off some plants that were starting to flower so they are kind of funky. I got them at 24/0 to reveg them.

I have done SOG in the past and want to stay away from it in the future.

I have pretty much everything, DH, AC brand new sentinel burner, so maybe I should go CGE.

The ballasts are old but they will work. Hoods are old, bobo brand. I have to get bulbs

One problem is I dont have alot of time to work on the room.

Right now I am trying to get the lights working so I can get my plants in there under the HID and start flooding them. Hopefully it will speed up veg

Might i ask why not sog?

But if you have 20 rooted, and two lights, doing a simple FAE set would easily get you want you want to do a nice CGE grow with the next set of clones. Again, simple 2x4's and poly would set ya up a nice room. I deff wouldnt over-complicate things. Make sure its light tight, intake, exhaust, low temps and you'll know what to do from there... its not your first rodeo it sounds like.

no, not my first rodeo at all.

I really don't like this method but I am going to use a digital timer to turn the burner on and off. I will use a Co2 calculator to come up with some #'s and go from there.

Ultimately this will save me the hassle of cutting holes in the floor to exhaust the room.

So sealed it is.

picked up a filter/fan and some odds and ends today. Got some work to do tomorrow

The reason for no SOG is I have done it in the past on a couple different scales. SOG means more/bigger moms, cutting more clones, maintaining more clones, all the lollipopping, etc. I used to take 300 clones every 3 weeks.

Oh and when you get busted, they count everything that looks like a plant, including non rooted clones.

This go around I want to grow bigger plants. I think going from 4 psf to 1 psf should be doable without alot of veg time. I have a T5 over a homemade table that can hold about 70 5x5 pots. Veg there for a couple weeks, then transfer to flower. The right strain will bush out and fill the canopy.

I picked up some 3 gallon square pots as well.

I know in my sog I was very close to 2# per 1000 so I have a benchmark to compare to. All I can do is get to work and see how it goes....
