What's new

Got robbed, im out ...

i think a safety deposit box is the way to go. don't you have anyone you trust? if i get to the point where i have such a stash of cash around, i could get my cousin to get me one at the bank he works at, or the bank i own stock at, or just get my father to get one or use his and give him whatever. he doesn't care as long as i'm being smart with money, paying down debt, and living straight. or rather he doesn't care as long as he doesn't know about whatever it is and if he finds out, he'll still love me. surely everyone has ONE person they could trust. if i feel my father would give me a hard time, i've got at least two uncles, maybe three, who would do anything for me, and again ask no questions, especially if i throw them some pain meds. the one is walking on a knee that has zero cartilage and hasn't had any in 10 years!!!!!!

i LOVE LOVE LOVE the cement filled safe, but i am out of rep for the day, but tokin, you are a person after my own heart. sock it to 'em!

Frankly, it sounds like these guys were professionals. We'll assume that they hadn't been in the house before and didn't know about, but that they do this regularly and have a particular kit that they bring to the house to quickly strip it of anything valuable. Perhaps they are based in his neighborhood, perhaps not. It will be interesting to find out if other homes have had similar robberies and if any criminals live on his street. They are web searches that you can do to find out crimes on a particular street or in a particular area and you can at least search the sex offender registry to see if there are criminals (albeit of a different stripe) in your area.

A safe is to keep other family members out of your stuff, like your kids, siblings, parents.

weed, money, the porno tape you made with your wife/girlfriend, all stuff other family members like to get into, and will discover eventually no matter how well hidden.

Thanks again for the warm words guys,

I went out and search for jobs today, hopefully ill get a call or 2 soon,,,

About the safe, even the people who wrote the report and the finger prints were amazed how they cracked that safe in that time frame .... look like 4 fry bars were used, they couldnt move the safe because it is heavy, so they drilled a bunch of holes right at the hinges and the lock, from there i guess they just busted it open with the bars, it looks like this is not their first time ...

next time im going to trap a little c4 in it, if you open it with out the code you're gonna get blow up :)

cheers,
red.

what a bummer.
ive been robbed like that... what a shitty feeling.
they took your clothes and shoes too? sounds like crack or meth heads...
is the area you live a lower income area? could just be the bottom of the barrell neighborhood lowlife trash that have nothing better to do but watch the successful folks come and go every day and scheme on how they can 'come up'.

sorry man.
id fucking move out of that place the moment you get the $$$
the landlord should be understanding enough to let you out of any contractual agreement considering the circumstances

what a bummer.
stay safe.

Dude, that sucks donkey dick. But, there is good news...you didn't get robbed. You got burglarized. Robbery is where you are present and they take your shit via threat of force. Fortunately, that didn't happen. You just got hit by some scumbag burglar...which means your life and limb were not in danger and that is way better if you ask me...keep your mind on the positive...you could have been injured in a robbery...but you're ok, aren't you?

Sorry for this semantic point, but people frequently confuse burglary for robbery...I'd rather be burglarized any day...

Variable speed hammer drill (which you can rent), good bit and some hydraulic cement *voila*

Bolts down from the inside (knock-out holes on the bottom of the safe)

They ain't liftin' shit up and droppin' it

Red, totally sucks. Hope things keep looking up for you. Ultimately it's just stuff, and stuff can be replaced.

To the guys talking about GPS in safes - won't work. Safe is a metal box (Faraday cage), GPS is a radio, and radios don't work in metal boxes. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage). So your GPS wouldn't get a signal from satellites until the safe is opened, and the GPS couldn't report its location to you until the safe is opened. Well, I guess it'll still tell you where the thieves took your stuff, which might be where they live.

I own a Hilti TE 7-C. Used a 5/8 " masonry bit and 6" anchors

You can rent em from Home Depot

Your safe, depending on fire-rating may have one to four holes (and maybe wall-mount holes). Measure them, 3/8" is pretty common, but use the biggest and strongest fastener.

Have you had any handymen or repair service folks in your apartment in the last few months? Do you know whether or not your landlord has been in there with repair or service people? Have you ever paid your rent in cash? Sounds like they knew exactly what they were after. They came prepared to deal with a safe.
