 Hello to all you coco-nauts!
Some of you out there may/may not know I am in my 1st run with coco. The only problem I have encountered thus far is bringing a "new" bug into my garden! Those dam fungus nats. I got some of those yellow sticky traps as suggested. BTW, I love it when I forget those yellow strips are there and one gets stuck to my fracking face!!!
A friend of mine went to the store for me and got them, and also got this "go nats" liquid for me to see if I wanted to try the product. The guy at the greenhouse told my boy that I would love this. I do not like trying a new chem without getting some info 1st.

Soooo; anyone try this?

If so, did you follow the directions on the bottle? And, did it work!!!!??? I don't want to set my plants on fire with something I never tried.....however....I want to get rid of these dam things!!!

I was told that they are no big deal until they lay the larvae into the root ball? True?? False??
Please and :thank you:

Here is a pic of the product I am talking about.

ive heard it works and it dont.. best thing for gnats is to buy sticky traps and bti dunks and break them up ontop your medium

GoGnats is cedar-based and, from my experience, safe to use in the recommended dosage and it makes for a pleasant odor. I recommend using it at "night" because (1) the directions say not to use in direct sunlight or in high temps and (2) you don't need the plant to take it up through the roots. My experience, like many others, has been hit or miss. I don't think that you can ever erradicate those gnats using only GoGnats, but I think that it can help you control them and erradicate using other methods.

I have a very small population while using GoGnats, yellow sticky traps and mosquito dunks crushed up and mixed into the soil. Even with all 3, my sticky traps still catch a few every day. There is a thread around here somewhere called The best gnat killer you've never heard of. . . . or something like that. They recommend topdressing with Diatamaceous Earth, which slowly kills every gnat that emerges from the soil and eventually none are left to return to lay eggs. I just found a bag of DE at my Lowes, and that will hopefully take care of that.

Edit - I just realized that you are in coco and I am soil. I can't imagine my advice not holding up, but I did want to acknowledge the difference.

See, when I was in soil I never saw these. I thought at first I had rotten fruit some where in the house because all of a sudden out of no where they appeared. And even more funny, is that I had my last run of soil in flower room and veg room with coco right and a closet with coco next to it...gnats in veg/coco but no gnats in soil/flower room. Weird....anyway...you followed the instructions on the back at full strength? When u said it will help control it reminded me of the directions on the back of the bottle. It says u can also use as a barrier...like spray the floor around the plants and all around the door to the room??? BTW, I never spray anything with lights on, even foliar feeding. Thanks so much for the input. Much appreciated folks...:thank you:

Nematodes will kill all fungus gnats with 1 application. Check with local garden supply shop.

:chin:
Never used them, heard of peeps on here using them for eating bad things in medium? Are they the bacteria you get in a bag of water and mix with nutes?:thank you:

BTi is Bacillus thuringiensis, subspecies israelensis
It's a bacteria that produces a toxin, larvae eat the toxin and die within a couple days.

I take it u have used this before? Do you mix with nutes? Is this part of the solution (combined with sticky traps) to completely eradicate them? Or is this just a pipe-dream? As in, will I have to deal with these nats from now on? :wallbash:
:thank you:

BTI can be found under the name mosqito dunks. They come in doughnut shape. Crush into powder and sprinkle on coco. Or if you have a res, drop one in the res.

Thats funny, ive been caught multiple times by my own sticky traps! I have long hair and got one stuck in it one time, soooooooooo nasty! but i second Third Coasts comment about Mosquito Dunks, just drop on in, it kills all the larve so you are defending re infestation! keep the sticky traps out to catch the adults! I'm not sure the life span of an adult, but kill the babies and you'll be golden!

Just my :2cents:.

Many people like to use the BTI dunks, and even claim to have found them effective.

I grow in coco, and my coco stays mostly wet. Add in nice warm temps and sooner or later your going to have Fungus Gnats.

They do not seem like a problem when you see one or three, but let it go for a couple weeks and that population can explode. Then you will notice your plants are not drinking like they used to and production is below par. Now you have a problem.

So you can use the dunks or get the real deal brand name BTI "GNATROL".

The dunks have a low percentage of BTI and are mostly filler, and do not mix into solution well.

The "Gnatrol WDG" water dispersed granules goes into solution well and 4 grams a gallon for 2 weeks will shut them down. Infestation to
"i cant seem to find any".

1 gram a gallon as a preventative, every other watering if you let your coco dry a little.

You could say, "Well, I just have a small garden. Wont the dunks be enough?" Maybe.

OR

Spend the extra dime on the real deal and know that with a diligent application regime the gnats will be gone, and your crops will once again have the chance to produce at their peak.

The "GO GNATS" cedar spray is useful as a TOPICAL SPRAY.

On and around pots, maybe a light shot on the medium surface if still in veg (unless you prefer cedar flavored buds). It turns your G room into a cedar chest. And many critters hate that cedar smell.

Good luck which ever way you choose to go, just dont wait too long to choose.

I used bti(mosquito dunks) for a while, it works ok. Azamax was what really kicked their butt, however you have to be careful when/how you use it.

Since they seem to be impossible to fully get rid of in my house, i use bti dunks on top of the coco in pots, and water through azamax if they start to get really bad.

MacGyver420

for what its worth:

5ml per gallon bayer advanced complete insect killer will destroy all bugs in coco asap better than dunks imo

I had-m bad once - I go with a 3 or 4 step approch to them.
buy bayer advanced and the masquito dunks, and the yellow stickies put up a good amount of wind, they cant fly worth shit, then go hunting... turn you fans off, stir the top of your pots (when I see one flying) I use my small shop vacum to suck-m out of the air.

the bayer is an instant killer forsure, and maybe use it if you got-m bad. I dont like to use the stuff personally, the masquito dunks are a slow measure, but once you have eliminated-m, its a great way to keep-m out... like they say grind-m up, an top dress as well, flote-m in your res, or a 5 gallon bucket over night. now I only use the dunks and they're completly %100 gone.

I also had Fungus Gnats bad. Azatrol/Azamax is what took care of them for me. I also used GoGnats spray, and it did not work. GoGnats will keep the Gnats from landing on whatever you spray it on, but it was not "killing" them. Azatrol after 2 applications and i've not seen anymore. YOu must have sticky traps to get rid of the stragglers or they will lay eggs later on. So: Azatrol & Sticky traps and they are done for. That is what worked for me.

i have fungus gnats in my DrBudgreengenes style SOG. Little bastards are a real pain in the ass. They are killing my yield. I keep water areated in a uninhabited 55g fish tank and have had dunks in it for approx 30 days. It seemed to work after about 2 weeks but they seemed to bloom up again a few days ago. Grrrrrrrr....think i'm gonna try the gnatrol someone mentioned earlier. just my $.02....
