LED (SG602) vs HID (1000W)

Ok this time around I'm gonna do a LED vs HID shoot out. I'll be using a Stealth Grow LED array vs Lumatek 1000W/ Ushio 1000W OptiRed Bulb.

I'll be growing in a tent built from two DR100L's which I used here https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=163201

I won't be seperating the two lights but will let the light cross over, this will also let the environmental conditions be the same between the two lights.

My OG supplier is no more so I got a choice of Master Kush, Purple Kush and diesel. The first two would be easier to move so are the favorite choice but I love growing Diesel. Will see...


Food wise I'll be using either Flora Nova or DM Gold again with the following additives. I'll keep the additives to a minimum.

Benefox
GH Sea Weed
Diamond Nectar
Willards Water
Heavy Weight
Monsta Bud
Kool Bloom

I'll be using 1gal pots with a 50/50 ProMix/GH Coco Mix

I'll wont be lighting it up for a few more days as its too hot here. Will have to will till the weekend.

Even after my positive results with leds, I'll still pick the 1k for the winner. But, we'll see. I'm not familiar with SG, only having used HGL. The 345w kicks butt pretty good. I imagine 600 will do fine.

btw, BB, nice setup.


I vote for the diesel.

im more inclined to think led's work best with hydro setup ;)

Well I'd like to see good results from the LED's. Most of my hate for LED's has been the insane claims the manufacturers make and this is way too common in the hydroponic industry.

I'd like to test out the SG 1202 but ATM just can't justify the cost of that unit. Only other reason I'm doing the comparison is that I have an agreement that I can return the panel after the show for a full refund.

I think the diesel would be the best to test it out on but I'd be stuck with it for a while.

I'm gonna also veg the plants for about 4-7 days this time to get them stabilized.

This gonna be intresting, I have done one Led grow and it yield better than hps.

HPS yield 0,55g/W and the LED yield 0,85g/w .
But the HPS grow had more plants, so a SOG with LED would yield even more..

I think the yield will be about the same.
You could check my grow out, LED make your plant more non-strech.
I think a 50/50 indica/sativa is best for LED, if you use a pure indica I think they will be too dense and short to yield good.

Cant wait to see the show,Yeah that LED panel cost more than my entire 1600w room AC and all. I couldnt justify that either.

I was talking to someone today about putting this system into their place so I can run a 24/7 web cam. It won't be streaming but probably updated every 10 seconds. Been meaning to do this for a few crop now. Will see how that goes.

Well couldn't find any OG suppliers so will go with 72 PK's. Will have to veg these as these PK need about 5 days veg. Only thing is I can't get them will the 25th. I'll get the LED light either tomorrow of Fri.

I'll also be using 1gal round pots, will not use the 3/4 gal pots this time.

hi bud, are you using the led and the hps for the entire grow? from veg to flower or switching off between mh to hps?
i think the led would do great in veg, but the 1k hps would flower more.

I'll use both for veg/flower. Since the veg will only be about 5 days I'm not too worried running a MH.

I don't know a thing about LED, but I have a ton of experience with PKs under 1Kw Ushio Reds. Are you going to use "Super Lumen" on the Lumatek?

I recently dialed mine down to 750 because I and many other growers noticed that the PK did better with less intense light, and my biggest previous runs were with Lumateks driving Ushio 1Kw at 750w.

Cant wait to see the show.

LED didn't arrive on Fri as they only had the veg spectrum ones, will have to wait till next week and not sure if I can get it in time byt the 25th (thats when the clone will be ready). If I don't get it in time I'll have to do a light rail set up again and then run the LED in a separate room but won't be able to do side but side.

Fuck so no flowering LED's available right now and I won't be able to get it in time for the clones. I could go with the next LED up SG1202 but thats another $800 more then I'd like to spend on a test.

I'm gonna have to re think the setup for now unless the distributor can get me one before the 26th. Will find out later today.

I'll post more info later tonight.

Ok figured it out.

DR 150 modified from 59x59" to 48/9x59' which will make it hide behind a wall nicely out of sight. I should be able to still get 72 1 gal pots in there. I'll also use a light rail just to move the light say 4" each way to get the plants at the ends more light.

If I get the LED next week I'll set it up mid Sept as a stand alone in a DR 100.

Good news LED should be here Thr/Fri so as long as it shows up its good to go.

Man I should have ordered the LED a week earlier, its stuck at customs for the distributor and earliest eta is monday but might be too late as I have to pick up the clones today. Looks like the LED will have to be a stand alone grow.

Stuck in customs? So they lie and say that their light is made in the USA but get it from all the other cookie cutter chinese factories! I'm already super turned off by stealth grow.
