Any other Midwesterners dealing with this insane superbreed of mosquitoes? I have never in my life seen them this bad, they're beefier than usual mosquitoes and leave aggressive bites. They've been biting through layers of bug spray.

lol you guys havent seen skeeters. i wish i could find some of my old pics from the casinos in tunica ms. i had a pic of a swarm of skeeters around a light bulb one night and it looked like a scene out of a cartoon there were so many they just made a buzz. i bet there were well over a half a million in one big swarm around that light. dont know if the have updated our state info but there was a typo in our states history. everyone thinks our state bird is the mocking bird but it really is the mosquito lol

State bird

State bird

lol, good one Memphis Man, we have two state birds in Hawaii, Choppers and Mosquitoes. Just look around and you WILL see both, lol

About the striped ones, oh boy are they nasty. Only way to beat em I found was to eat more Garlic n Ginger in your diet. Other thing is them a$$holes have infared vision. They see red n blue and whatnot like infared see's. They attack your head n neck and your wrists n ankles. I swear this is true, it's where all the blood is close to the skin. If you wear pants mark my words, They will swarm your head. Nothing to eat down below, lol. ANd if you put extra repellent on your neck and throat ( make sure its a natural product) like a Burts Bee's or pure citronella oil if you can find it. They will leave you ALONE. Watch your Body Odor, try to eat n drink so you smell nice. They attack people with B.O. twice as hard. I think its to do with their sense of smell, little bastards have both vision n smell way more advanced than ours. I hate those little blood sucking vampires.

its been insane skeeter season here (cali). I am on a cancer theropy that includes taking niacin. They will not get close, they hate it ha ha.

I am now convinced that a global pandemic of mosquito infestation is under way, probably due to global warming or something. Here on the equator, my swamp used to be 100% free of skeeters, but just this year they took over the place completely, and swarm even during the day in black whining clouds.

Really wierd to hear folks stateside making the same observation, all those timezones away.

I seen tons of bats at my house, in Hawaii. They live in the lava tubes. I love em, mostly fruit bats taht eat fruit and the ones thet eat bugs and such. We play with them in the back yard. Throw a piece of bark in the air and they chase it like dogs, lol. Never harm anything as far as I know. I'm glad they are around.

Mosquito's!? They are god awful but id dance if thats all i had to deal with. STicktights, hitchikers, cockleburrs- ...

Am i the only grower that has these red, hairy spiders about the size of a nickel that build their web about face level? I try to keep my walking stick held up in front of me to catch the web and the first thing you know, ive let down my gaurd and face first into the web. The hairy bastard goes running across your face and you know he's on you somewhere. When i get back to the house, my wife screams and i know that means that a big red hairy spider is setting on me somewhere. I HATE HAVING A FUCKING BIG SPIDER ON MY FACE AND BODY!!!!!!!

Oh man yes, after the first few full-on web-and-spider-to-the-face episodes I've started waving a branchy stick in front of me. They love to build their webs across branch-gaps that always end up at face level. :bashhead:

I should say that I watched "Arachnophobia" a few times as a kid.

And yeah, the striped mosquitoes have a thing for the face and neck areas. I've never had so many bites on my face before.

i have a friend that does mosquito control in the midwest. He always told me about different breeds and the size/ behavior differences between them. Im no expert but he warned me about Tiger Mosquitos.. maybe this season has created a environment for a specific badass mosquito? who knows.

Good news about the skeeters in my parts. The kind that carry West Nile virus breeds in a hot DRY climate. It has been WET WET WET around here. Twice the normal rainfall in June and July. And the dew point has been in the 70's more than any recorded year!

Used Bounce dryer sheets tucked in pockets, hats and socks keeps most blood suckers at bay. Rub on exposed skin as well. Head net covering at Wal-Mart is under $2. Deep Woods Off contains the most Deet.

Spiders!! Been waving a leafed twig before me every trip. But.....the Pennsylvania grass spider weaves inches from the ground and they crawl up pantlegs. I worry most about black widows and brown recluses. Tuck pants into socks or use rubber bands. Stay safe.

Lifes journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy crap... What A Ride !!!"

Use Permanone, sprayed on clothing only - never skin - and allowed to dry, and say goodbye to skeeters, ticks, chiggers, and spiders or anything that crawls or bites thru clothes. Not a repellent - an insecticide. A favorite of Southern hunters for years. That and a little repellant on exposed skin, and no bug problems. Problem this year is it is so hot I sweat off the repellent quickly and get bit by skeeters anyway.
