Visiting Colorado This Week

So im headed up there to find a place, get a mailbox, go to dmv, and hopefully get medical this week. I have a few questions:

I should first say what it is were looking to do. Cg with 5 patients + separate patient with lung problems (edible license) in a mobile home that isnt instantly surrounded by big city.

The places we're looking at are Boulder, Ft. Collins, Longmont, and Loveland - in that order. As I understand from this forum, these are the places to be...Our biggest priority being where the police are most mmj friendly...I also checked into englewood, littleton and lakewood but I couldnt find any MHPs with a decent location. Did i forget any major mmj/CG friendly zones that arent in the mountains? Are any of these places bad to be if you are private CG?

With this massive 60+ acre grow popping up in Longmont it makes me wonder if the town is more partial towards the large scale grower. Is that really the case? Longmont seemed like a poor mans boulder, but it would not be good to find a place there then find out theyre trying to move out the little guy.

What is the LEO like in Ft. Collins? Ive heard there are plenty of other growers up there, and I see one of the Way to grow stores is local there also...Is it close to as relaxed as boulder is? Do I need to watch what part of Ft. Collins I get into, or is it all generally safe? Boulder seems like CG are almost protected at the county level from LEO - they dont seem to want to mess with them, is Ft Collins close to the same way?

Is one DMV less packed than the other, or are they all pretty much the same?

To find the doc reccs we need, our plan is to just go to different dispensaries, both edible and non, until we find a reliable doc that will give us the plant count we need. please tell me if I have an evil (bad rep) disp. listed or if you guys know of a good one I forgot....to find the edible license: Herbal Avenger, Goddess Bites, Denver Relief, or/and Boulder Kind Care. To try to find good examples of what we will strive to beat in quality: Delta 9, Grasshopper, High Grade off Arapahoe, and Cannamed.

How much notice does the doc usually need to get you in? Ive heard that same day is possible but not likely, especially for the edible license.

Lastly, I have found out about the Biker Jim Hot dogs, Boulder Farmers Market, Original pancake house, and Nick/Willys pizza....are there any other local hidden culinary jems of denver/ft collins anyone would like to let me in on? Im very big on places you cant find elsewhere. There are so many microbreweries...brekenridge brewery seems like the one but is there a better one??

Thanks to all who took the time to read this long post.

I'd stay in Boulder County, and out of some parts of SchLongmont (local spelling) as there is more meth and crime than other parts of the county. I'd be looking in the mountains too, if you don't have to drive into town everyday...

Jalino's pizza (17th and Arapaho in Boulder) is far better than Nick and Willies, if you go to NandWs you have to go to the one on 8th and Pearl, the others are just lower quality franchise stores. There is only one Jalino's.

The Rib House in Longmont/Boulder are really good for bbq.

The Mountain Sun for some beers, it's on 15th and Pearl in Boulder.

Yea, Ive heard about some shaddy shit in SchLongmont. Growers get robbed and the cops do absolutely nothing about it. Plus there are some really creepy people in Longmont, some really nice ones too, but if you ask the cool people they usually want to move out of longmont.

I would check out Lyons too, its in BoCo and property is not as expensive as Boulder city proper. Also you probably wont find many rural MHP in Boulder City proper, the ones here are in the city and usually have a very high immigrant population, nothing wrong with that, just something to think about.

Boulder Farmers Market runs Saturday mornings, I wanna say 8-1 and wednesday evenings 6-8:30, its a great place to walk around, people watch and grab a bite to eat. Its on the corner of Canyon and Broadway in DT Boulder.

For Pizza in Boulder we go to O's, its all natural and organic pizza, closest thing we have found to real east coast pizza, although Im going to have to try Jalino's now. Definitely agree on Mountain Sun for beer, or the Walnut Brewery has great late night deals on apps and beer.

Oh yeah and Original Pancake House is a chain restaurant, just mentioning that because you said you liked going ot places you cant find anywhere else, and there are tons of OPH all over the country.

STAY AWAY FROM CANNAMED OR IS IT CANNAMART, Im a stoner who rarely visits dispensaries anymore so dont quote me:D

For Drs. Dr. Turnbow in Boulder is pretty good, I believe he charges somewhere in the range of 150, then you also have to send in your 90 app fee too. You should be able to get in to see him pretty quickly too.

Thanks both of you for the replies. +rep. Id rep cannagirl again but it wont let me...

I feel like a tool now for thinking the original pancake house was actually original...now that I think about it I have seen them before (in tx), just not very often. Good looking out on the pizza scene. I will definitely try out jaliscos while in town.

Well, schlongmont is out. Messing around on CL I raised my standards and actually found some pretty good non MH deals in ft. collins, and even expanded my horizons to the mountains where I found one place in alma, one in frisco to check out. My budget is 1000/mo including utilities on a 6mo lease, and I am anti duplex/apt. Ill do some last minute checking into Lyons as well.

Thanks to still2big, hosscartwright, cannagirl, greenmopho, smoke kush, and the guy with the mario ghost avatar for your posts in this CO forum throughout the past 3 months or so...ive gained a LOT of knowledge about the area that I wouldnt have figured out until months later had it not been for you guys.

I thought the laws changed and it's now harder to get a MMJ license? I thought you had to go to your primary care physician and go for multiple visits now. Am I wrong?

Greeninthethumb, here is the wording for SB 10-109 I dont see anything about being a primary Dr

(I) A PHYSICIAN AND A PATIENT HAVE A TREATMENT OR COUNSELING
RELATIONSHIP, IN THE COURSE OF WHICH THE PHYSICIAN HAS COMPLETED A
FULL ASSESSMENT OF THE PATIENT'S MEDICAL HISTORY AND CURRENT
MEDICAL CONDITION, INCLUDING AN APPROPRIATE PERSONAL PHYSICAL
EXAMINATION;

(II) THE PHYSICIAN HAS CONSULTED WITH THE PATIENT WITH
RESPECT TO THE PATIENT'S DEBILITATING MEDICAL CONDITION BEFORE THE
PATIENT APPLIES FOR A REGISTRY IDENTIFICATION CARD; AND

(III) THE PHYSICIAN IS AVAILABLE TO OR OFFERS TO PROVIDE
FOLLOW-UP CARE AND TREATMENT TO THE PATIENT, INCLUDING BUT NOT
LIMITED TO PATIENT EXAMINATIONS, TO DETERMINE THE EFFICACY OF THE
USE OF MEDICAL MARIJUANA AS A TREATMENT OF THE PATIENT'S
DEBILITATING MEDICAL CONDITION.

Wow cannagirl, that's way different than the fear based crap I was hearing from people. Any responsible doctor was already doing all of that.

To the OP- You should recognize that you'll prob not even hear from the CDPH for 9 months or a year. I originally heard that they had 30 days to notify you if you're going to be denied but they're WAY too backed up these days. They still haven't even cashed my check and I mailed it out months ago. What will you do if six months they get back to you and say you're denied? Your garden will be in a bit of a nebulous state until you actually get your registration card.

Just checked the website and it says you can use your registered/certified mail receipt with a copy of your application as a temporary card if you haven't heard from the department for 35 days.

You should also know the Denver City Council is now trying to ban caregivers and there may be other locations that try to follow in this move. Be careful where you choose to live.

C

cannagirl

GitT, I dont think Denver is going to be allowed to ban caregivers, it says somewhere in 1284, that city and county authorities can only ban dispensaries, OPC's and MIP's. What they are purposing right now is unconstitutional.

'Local Option' can be powerful. Let's hope it falls apart.

I know it was yesterday, but I haven't seen anything regarding the outcome of the council meeting.

Channel8 doesn't have the vid archive up yet.

So I did the 15 hour drive up there. Let me save any other out-of-state people some major trouble/ time wasted....

1. The Dept of motor vehicles. Colorado does not like Texas. A texas state id/license is not enough. Texas is actually one of only 8 states in USA whos license colorado does not recognize fully, no matter if it is sill valid or expired recently. I would advise with the utmost urgency, that anyone considering the trip up there...check to make sure your state is not on the list of NLP (non-legal presence) states. The list is a list of states that "dont check for legal presence" aka they think im an illegal alien. (which im white guy with a southern accent) If it is a NLP state you will need a social security card, or a birth certificate.

2. Make sure your birth certificate is not laminated. It does not matter if you were born in 1956 when the SS cards say nothing about laminating or not laminating, as was my fathers case. Or if your parents for some stupid reason laminated it when you were a baby (me), then to CO, you have no SS card. Also make sure its signed before you walk into the place....

3. Just any ol birth certificate will not do. The birth certificate must be the original or certified copy, no photocopies (duh) but heres the kicker that is not mentioned anywhere until you drive 500 miles to the place and talk to them in person....if your birth certificate has a CITY or COUNTY seal (such as the city of dallas - many big cities did city seals) and not a STATE seal....then to the state of colorado...you have no birth certificate.

4. Heres a nice trick. The colorado DMV wants to cancel your other states license if you go in there with it to get a CO license. Maybe you dont want to give up your license in the other state. So go to drivers school and get a permit. Then take that paperwork into the DMV. Never show anyone your out of state license. There might be a way to do that without paying for drivers school.

5. Lastly, to show the futility in their "legal presence" screening, id like to point out delayed birth certificates. If you never got a BC growing up (or maybe you did - just dont tell anyone that) , many states allow you to apply for a delayed BC. If you get one from the right state, it will not have any distinction (no big red "delayed" stamp) from the BC issued at the hospital. When applying for a delayed BC, they assume you are who you tell them you are, there is no real checking to see if you are in the database bc they are adding you into it.

So after this i was pretty much crushed/POed. (all you locals can lol now) 500 miles back to dallas, then another 1000 mile round trip soon. Before that, I was able to check out Boulder housing situation though.

To start, 15k in bouldnt isnt squat, unless you are looking at apartments (which there are plenty of) or low scale renting or have 5 friends to pitch in with you. And then you have to deal with hoops to jump through such as credit check, back ground check, income check, spread your cheeks check, etc. I think this is bc demand is so high, maybe its just a co thing, but in tx it isnt near this hard to qualify with a significant down payment with first/last month rent. As far as mobile homes go, there are ~5 MHPs in boulder, of the 2 I thought were acceptable (san souci and the one off marshall/foothills), they sell any and all vacancies very quickly. I had a line on a place for 5k just south of broadway/table mesa...sold within a week of listing before I could get there. i will say that boulder is pretty much heaven to me though. The city I live in now (in collin county, tx) has more police on a 30 mintue drive than I saw in all of OK and Kansas combined...boulder I saw ONE...simply amazing. I could go on and on about the local scene and the people, how many layed back people there were....the guy at the dmv had a mountain man/kimbo beard! And everyone i ran into looked like a stoner. I was wondering when Id see someone that looked "normal" but then I realized that in this town is the normal ive wanted to find for so long. That what ive been living in all my life is a police state that is not normal. And the air...I didnt know what clean air was until this week. I know the change of altitude makes it harder to work out for a month or so, but I felt like i could jog forever in boulders summer climate. And theres a such thing as snow tubing! I never knew of such pleasures. As much of a setback this was, im twice as motivated now.

Just checked the website and it says you can use your registered/certified mail receipt with a copy of your application as a temporary card if you haven't heard from the department for 35 days.

This

Fort Collins is not the place to be. Larimer Country Drug Task Force will fuck up your front door. And Jim Alderden, the Sheriff, let's just say he's not "feelin' it". And there's only one dude on City Council who's actually on our side, and he works at Kinko's and has no influence, whatsoever.

If you're a major dispensary with your warehouse grows, you're in the clear. But god forbid you're a peaceful caregiver with a small, low-key growing operation. Prepare to be shaaafted!

Wow that almost sounds too bad to be true...Thanks for the heads up though. I had notes on about 15 places in ft collins and i didnt even have a chance to check it out, after that drive/DMV letdown I only wanted to sleep a few hours then come back and not spend any more money on hotels/food/gas since ill have to go back up there within the month anyway.

It looks now like the thing to do is save more money, and try to find/buy a small piece of land. Then borrow against the land to move/install a MH onto it. Use the other 10k on running the system, bills, paying the loan off, food, etc. Then use the MH to save up for a house/cabin.

So I know I go long when I post. Thanks again to all that read it. I hope I can save someone out there from driving 1000 miles for nothing (except knowledge)

PS Limon at night is fcking scary. It was the first town suggested to me on this forum and now i see why thats so funny...The gas light came on and i had to stop for gas at like 4am. The attendant looked like a zombie in a ghost town with the only living inhabitants in prison.

Colorado does not like Texas.

You're from Texas and you didn't know that? How is that possible?

They're just one of many states that don't like Texas.

Good thing most Texans don't give a shit.

I know I fucking don't.

I think you've been sipping too much of that syzurrup.

Almost funny enough to put in my signature.

Next time you go, visit Lake City.

If your broken come here, if ya wanna sling dope find a different state thanks...

This mother fucker has more in common with you than 99.99999999% of the rest of this shit planet yet you still wanna run that mouth? I used to be one of the dumbass people that said "go home" too. Then I realized I don't have one. My realitives raped and killed the people here before them...just like yours did. Doesn't make it my land and just because your mom shit you out in this state don't make it yours.
