What the Kush?

Let's discuss all things Kush. I am not too well versed on the subject. I think I heard OG Kush or Bubba Kush (either or both) are not really a Kush at all. Which brings up the question, just what is a Kush? Is it a genetic term or a geographical one or label that dealers use to move their product?

I saw some thread somewhere about the Hindu Kush region of Pakistan/Afghanistan and how it was the source of some brutal fighting not only recently but way back when too. So are there really genetically distinct strains called Kush?

I've heard of strains, cuts, phenotypes of strains and cuts and it all has me confused. Which is the best potency wise (some form of pre-98 bubba kush I take it, but which one is the best to smoke), and which best is the best overall to grow (combining desirable high and productivity/vigor)? Hindu Kush is that an f1 or an IBL? help me make some sense of all this! thanks

ps. I am mainly interested in the best available in seed form. I wish I had access to the "elite" clones, which are also fair topics of discussion. But mainly interested in finding a user-friendly Kush to grow from seed.

thanks! How about those formerly clone only's, some of which are now offered by seed breeders? How about the kushes in your sig? I guess I have to check that out.

Kush is a mountain range in Pakistan/Afghanistan. The weed found growing there naturally is what real kush is.

Purple Kush (Clone only strain)
Green Crack Cush(Clone only strain)
both top Kushes if done by a good grower IMVHO .. I have not found much that beats these two.. I personally hate OG Kush lol and the other kushes can't see what other ppl see in them either.. peace out Headband707

"Kush" is a generic term,, initially it refered to strains from the Hindu Kush region.

Master Kush is still available in seed form and is an Afghan x Skunk

Isn't BubbaKush a cross betwwen some Hinku Kush & Bubblegum ?

"Kush" used to mean that the strain comes from the Hindu Kush range, but that's just not the case anymore. To look like "Kush" is enough to get labelled as "Kush". SOme people will tell you that indicas from Mazar, Mongolia or Kazakhstan are Kush, because they look like Hindu Kush trains. But they're not.

even the same field will show considerable variation
if i could risk losing a leg to a land mine or a trigger happy 19yo occupier, i'd have sacks of beans to send in as freebies-lets give it another year and if things improve then it's on fo sho! I'm pretty sure that X-18, chitral and purple paki are just the tip of the iceberg-especially if i know them pakis! the above mentioned strains were most likely just seeds pulled of buds next to the highway in islamabad-thats my guess and i'm sticking to it-pakis can be very intimidating-especially when one gets into the land of pathans-im cool with that and thats why i feel no real effort has gone into this region-chitrally may have been sourced by the kalashi though-it is their valley after all and they've always been hospitable to the foreigner-not saying i'm one or not
i understand i'm no breeder-but preservation can easily be done even by me
if you have particular villages in mind mriko, I'd like to go ahead and send zakat there ahead of time to the elders-seen?
send me a private PM if your game mriko

We have our own variety called Green Knot Kush thus dubbed/named because it doesn't actually have any "Kush" in the genetics.. lol

picture.php

Green Knot Kush = Kentish Creme x Orange Kush

Orange Kush = OG Kush x Californian Orange Bud

To our understanding,, OG Kush isn't actually a "Kush" plant in the technical sense,, just a prescribed name given.. so we thought we'd play on words.. the KC grows in knots or knotted buds,, and mix the words Orange n Kentish up yo'll get a "geenish knot" sein).

It's a bit like poetry in compost... haha :D

Well the person who posted about "Hindu Kush" is spot on.I think most early strains that sport the name "Kush" should have it in their genetics. The new strains nowdays that have the word Kush in their name and dont have any of the genetics in their line are strains that I guess resemble what a kush is.If it isnt that then it is simply a marketing ploy.
