hey everybody. just picked out some nice moms from my last go around. from now on, i am planning on running a perpetual grow, filling about a quarter of the room every 2-4 weeks, depending on how many clones i can take. my space is 4x5 with two 600 watters. if i go with the 2 gallon, which are about 6.5"x5.5", and i could fit about 70 in there give or take a few, and the 3 gallon which are 6.5"x7.5", and i could fit about 45-50 in there. was just wondering which do you guys think would be best to go in there. i would like to minimize my veg time as much as possible. thanks for any help. oh and if anyone has any idea of how tall they should be before flipping would be great. these strains stretched about 2.5 times from veg to flower last time. once again thank you.

I would think with 2 - 3 gallon bags you would want about a 6 week veg to maximize that amount of soil. Then you would have a lot of side branching and would not be able to have 70 plants.

If you wanted to use that size container, I would suggest scrog. One variety under each light.

Or, you could plant your cuttings into 2 liter containers allowing only a 1 week veg (depending on cutting size). This will give you nice big single colas. Ofcourse then you would hae a lot of plants to deal with.

Just some thoughts to kick around.

IMHO,

2 gallon is more than enough for SOG. 2 gallon should allow any strain more then enough room for SOG and even enough to add in a little veg time.

Most SOG are done in 1 gals. 3 gallons allow for a solid month of veg before flipping.

I am curious about the pot size specs.

2 gallon, which are about 6.5"x5.5", and i could fit about 70 in there give or take a few, and the 3 gallon which are 6.5"x7.5
"

check this calculation out that i found on the internet.

i looked for it because my 2 gallons are much larger then yours. Unless yours are really deep.

gallons = pi * (diameter in inches / 2)**2 * height in inches / 1728 (number of cubic inches in a cubic foot) * 7.5 gallons per cubic foot

So for a 6 inch pot by 6 inches high = 0.7 gallons
10 inch by 10 inch high = 1.7 gallons
12 inch by 12 inch high = 5.9 gallons
15 by 15 = 11.5 gallons

For tapered pots take off 20% or so.

for a true SOG i would go with one gallons. like i said, IMHO.

2's or 3's are fine.

I use 2's, but if I had room for 3's i would use them.

Bigger root mass = bigger buds = more yield = happy grower

a 6 week veg in a 2 gallon container? my plants got root bound halfway through flower with a four week veg in four gallon pots. yea my 3 gallons are like 13-14 inches tall, dont know what they are on the 2 gallons. i probably should have said they are grow bags, so they are square not round, if that makes a difference. anyway, thanks a lot guys, really appreciate the advice. and nicoli, congrats on quitting cigarettes, trying to do the same myself. i quit smoking pot and doing all the pills i was addicted to like cake 7 months ago, but the bogies are the hardest thing to quit. good luck and i hope you stay strong and stay off em.

I've used 2 and 3 gallon container with my sea of green(ish) setup. I personally think the 3 gallons are 100x better. The maintenance (moving, watering, trimming, ect.) with fewer but slightly larger plants is so much faster and easier. Not to mention I stay just inside my plant limit and yeild a little more. The only down side is I have two different sizes of buds the 3 Gallon- big and medium, opposed to with the 2 gallon containers- just big.

Just a pain in the ass bro. But a lot of people swear by the smaller but more school, I chose the best of both worlds, medium

- Not to mention, The feds could give a fuck less how big our plants are, just how many.

hey limits, yea i remember talking to you about this. how much veg time do you do with either bag size? do you go by time, or the size of the plant. thanks.

IMHO a SOG involves little to no veg time and therefor 3 gallons of soil is not only a huge waste of soil / money but it doesn't dry out faster enough from frequent watering / feedings AND the space that a 3 gallon grow bag occupies should be occupied by 2 smaller grow bags each with their own plant.

Yeah I have to agree with Natagonnaworrie.

I wouldn't do anything larger then 2 gal if you want to do short/very short veg times. I used 1.5gal bags but I suppose those can be kind of difficult for some to find..
As far as height, with 600's and a x2.5 stretch, I would induce flowering at like 10" or so.

Maybe I missed it, are these aircooled hoods?

yes frozen they are, and i have the super spreader on them, so i can get them real close to the tops of the plants. thanks for the replies.
