Run off PH??

Surfr

Whats up guys! Excuse my ignorance here, but I am wanting to switch over to coco and had a question.. Is it important to still check the run off of coco like soil? Or does it simply not matter in coco? I have heard conflicting things and am a little confused! Thanks!

I always checked the run-off... gave me an indicator of what's going on in the coir. It does swing depending on how you pre-treat & run it.

If the first run... sure as shit wouldn't hurt anything to do... made me feel more comfortable w the whole switch, no doubt!

Except for the bugs, you will absolutely love coir. ;-)

I'll go on record as saying that in my 2+ years of growing in coco I have never once checked my run off.
Not saying not to check run off, just that I've never done it.

That is one of my reasons to switch from soil to coco.. I have been having so many damn PH fluctuations with soil lately that I am ready to give up.. I have heard from a lot of people that checking PH runoff is not necessary if you PH your mixture correctly before watering with coco..

Just a heads up surfr, I was in the same boat you are in now. I pretty much just gave in and said frack it. I have been testing my ph run off while in coco and I love how easy it is to control. Ph of 5.8 nutes gives me a run off of 6.0-6.1. Dunno if that is good or not, but do know my plants seem to like it.

^ you say you check it and you know the value and admit you dont even know it thats good or not ......ummmmm I DONT GET IT? WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING?????

im sorry, im just really against it....as long as you know pH of input and its RTW set up theres no point IMO!

ohhhh just to mention.....not to be confused with run off EC! which is a WHOLE different story and would actually have some importance in knowing that value

Ok so what about ph'ing the water before then adding nutes (PBP Grow / Karma / Epsom Salts), would you check after nutes?

why would you pH it before youve added chemicals that are going to change pH......check it AFTER nutes/adds have been added......

Hey man, I have always added nutes 1st, then check/adj ph after. I actually had a question about this to BC in his hand watering coco thread. I have never had to use cal/mag until now. I got confused, but am glad I was still doing the correct thing....I guess rule of thumb is to always adj/check after making nute mix, weather it is with additives or not.:tiphat:
