it's rough trying to convince today's consumer that outdoor medicine is better. almost all the good weed produced in my state(MI) is grown indoors so when people see browner buds they think it's mids or something.

you guys need to just flood the market and people will learn by trying it themselves. also i'd promote and label it like coffee and wine is. i hope you can not only compete with oakland but put them out of business, providing more of a much better product, demand should shift back to humboldt, your community has so much passion for this. thanks for sharing all your seasons progress.

I just read your last post with the pictures and shed a tear for I'm am so inspired and uplifted by your work. You are representing the earth tribe full on with so much pride, knowledge and integrity. You guys represent a huge leap in the world of sustainable change. I personally thank you from the bottom of my heart ,for your commitment to the community it has truly had a wave of an impact.

I am really happy to share this glimpse behind the redwood curtain. I hope to dispel the stereotypes of Emerald Triangle cannabis farmers as irresponsible, polluting, gun-toting, drug crazed, outlaws. Most of us are responsible upstanding members of our communities. We support the schools, fire departments, womens shelters, hospice programs, meals for homeless, and many local non-profits. Cannabis has always supported this community and it will for generations to come.

heres how i see it from down south (in highschool geometry terms):

if the following is true:

1)the emerald triangle is world renowned for having the best bud on planet earth.
2) the emerald triangle is mostly outdoor grows.

then:

1) protect the name of northern bud by not allowing parasitic seed companies/carpet baggers/ whoever/ from using terms like, "humboldt", "mendo", "northern cali" what have you, by writing laws in your counties and state that prohibit the use of those terms by companies who register business names after oct 2010. nothing on the packaging alluding to the region, no extra large font for address, nothing. in essence, only businesses licensed in northern cali before 19 may use those terms.

2) promote the efficacy and superiority of organically cultivated marijuana.

3) bring awareness to the connection between northern cali and outdoor cultivation. use your reputation, youve earned it.

growing up in LA, if you could get your hands on some humboldt kind bud, you instantly became the most popular person at the party. it was, "oh man whered u get that?" "you have any more?" "can you hook me up?" "pass that shit".

for me and many others theres just a big disconnect between humboldt and outdoor. yeah i know humboldt grows outdoor bud, but when someone says, "oh its outdoor" in a derogatory sense, i never connect the two.

a broader popular awareness of the connection between outdoor and humboldt (and other northern cali grow spots) and organic is probably the only way to undo the misconception of outdoor bud. to do that you need to keep your reputation clean from abuse from carpet baggers.

the reality is; indoor can look better, but organic outdoor smokes better and has a superior high. after all, when indoors, you do everything you can to imitate the sun right? but the sun can never be imitated.

I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support I have been receiving in PM's, rep, and the posts here. We have a very supportive community and it gives me a lot of hope for our future.
We have lived in fear in the growing community for a long time that evil corporations would come in and try to take our livelihood from us. We thought it would be Joe Camel, Marlboro Man, and RJ Reynolds. We did not know that the monster would rise from our own ranks in the medical cannabis community. The enemy of the small grower has reared it's ugly head and the battle has begun.
I welcome the challenge.
They no longer talk about patients, medicine and healing. They only talk about dollars. That is the difference between factory grown and farm grown. They are doing this for all the wrong reasons.
We have a deep connection to the plants that we grow. We talk to them. We live side by side with them. We eat the food that is grown in the same gardens. We feel we have a responsibility and a connection to each patient that consumes this medicine. We use it to heal our minds as well as our bodies. This is not just another job. This is our passion and our calling. We rise everyday excited to be working on our farms and we take a lot of pride in our gardens....

This may be shocking but now I am going to say some nice things about Oakland.:)
I want a legitimate cannabis industry. I want to be able to compete in a free market with a high quality organic sustainably grown product. I also think adults should have the choice to legally grow and consume cannabis. Prop 19 can make this happen. It is not perfect. Far from it. But it is a step in the right direction.
Richard Lee made it happen. As much as I don't agree with how they wrote their ordinance in Oakland I am very grateful that he put up his own money to get prop 19 on the ballot. He is a very smart business man. No one is denying that. I just think there can be a much better way to allow cultivation in the state that won't have so many negative impacts on the environment and small cannabis growing communities.
I believe there is room at the table for all of us and there should be more of a united front in the cannabis industry. Humboldt would be happy to work with Oakland and the rest of the state if the opportunities arose. We would be happy to help educate them on safer cleaner ways of cultivation.
Oakland has opened the door for the rest of us and we should be grateful. They had the money and the balls to do what most in the growing community have spent decades dreaming of.
Rather than turn negative attention towards what is being done in Oakland we should all be engaging our elected public officials to ensure that we can continue to feed our families with our chosen profession.
We want to allow farmers from the large to the small to continue to do what they love and what they have been doing for generations. We are California cannabis farmers and we need to come together to set an example for the rest of the country and the world.
I have seen too many friends and family members locked up and hunted for too long. The world is watching California right now. We have an opportunity to repeal prohibition. We have to do it. This can not go on any longer.

Couldn't be put any better HL. You provide a great image of what is capable without damaging your surroundings. I hope people are able to see past oakland and just imagine what other communities are going to do.

Very well said HL, the rest of us are watching all you mob in California, so I really hope it works out for the best for all concerned. If California gets it right, Australia will follow suit(hopefully). :)

Humboltlocal, do you do any kind of thinning to your girls? I have wanted to ask a professional that question for quite some time. BTW, You've been an inspiration to me since you're first post. I would swear that you had 15 people working for you full time with the amount of work you and your crew have accomplished. Ganga D, I'll bet you could tackle an Ox! Mad props to BOTH of you!!!!!

i disagree. you are rooting for the side that is just going to make more restrictions on the current set of rules. u wanna buddy up with oakland.......what a joke.......u will be laughed right back up north.......they dont want/need any info from u. its already on the table.....if its not 100percent legal , ur being tricked into a future of more limitations of whats going on.....why would u think leo is going to be any different.......you are quick to dismiss the level of corruption from your thoughts. since when do we want to play by more rules......why do we want to come together? nice thought and all but its not realistic........certainly in the wrong direction. i say this..........being aware of whats going on........thinking your words are pushing weak minded ppl in the wrong directions because of the respect that they have for your excellent growing skills......u know what richard lee said recently about the home growers up north i assume.......i wouldn't feel very good about myself for showing ANY respect for someone who has labeled our communities as a future of hash making bitches. maybe not you or me directly, but certainly the "friends and family". being such a known person in the online community I think u should be more informed and think it over more before spewing this garbage........

that last bit could have been said a bit more respectfully. I understand people are heated about this issue, but respectful discourse is the only way people are going to inform their vote.

Did R.Lee really say "hash making bitches?" LOL. No way.

Can you post a link to the article? I missed it. Thought Oakstermart was staying silent for the time being and watching the polls.

dont wanna get into a respect debate. so okay. ill admit i could have. i think i have made it clear to hlocal what i do and dont respect regarding what he posts. ill be the first to admit my emotions go into my post and sometimes arguably shouldn't......but in all the reading and few posts ive made on this forum in the last 6+ years and 5+ before that on overgrow....i have continued to be real and TRY to not be insulting. VERY few have done this. point taken though.

when asked what about the smaller local communities etc........dont quote me word for word....."i guess they are just gonna have to make hash" i realistically translate that into what i said earlier.......does ne one think that HASH BITCH is not what he really thinks or is saying?

dont have a link off hand.......read it within the week though.....id dig around......but dialup ruins that.

always maad respect to u!:tiphat:

I didn't think you were quoting him verbatim. I gotta find the quote.

HumboldtLocal clearly has a deep devotion to his community and the way of life that made it what it is. The fact that he cares so much is what brought us together I believe.
I only care about growing and freedom, little else matters to me. Sometimes I think about how limited our time on earth really is and even that our planet will one day be destroyed by the sun hundreds of millions of years from now. Even though our time is short here we should all make the most of it by causing as positive an influence as possible on the earth and universe. Making a positive impact is what gets me out of bed each day and gives hope.
We have chose our calling or it has chosen us. We could have been bankers or lawyers or fast food servers or anything, but we're not. We are cannabis growers and we make the world vibrate at a higher level. We should all be a team and work together for fairness and equality. HL just wants to make sure our culture and lively hood is protected and not snatched away from us. So try comb, try to understand in this very complex situation HL only wants whats truly best for everyone.
Time to get back to work, lot's of pollen to collect today, maybe I'll take some pictures for tonight.
