not even timers for your lighting? oh, man. timers can be had for 10$ or so. what a waste.
here's a thought:
have you ever considered some automation?

there are some relatively inexpensive things that could be easily implemented to avoid another disaster like this ... for instance, using a logic controller with a temperature and a relative humidity sensor that would turn on ventilation fans. of course, that ventilation system might require an activated charcoal filter to scrub noxious odors, adding more expense.

i don't know what your circumstances are or how your grow room is laid out, but some solution must be available to avoid this in the future.

i wouldn't mind seeing a forum here at ICMag devoted to automation issues as related to the grow room environment.

here are some pics from my album. they are all there. it might be a better place to see them but i will try to post them all here:

sorry the last one is out of focus.

i do have my lights and the white fan on a timer. i do not have a timer to open and close my door to the room. my small 'fart fan' exhaust fan is on a light switch. i think i left it off all day. and my wife closed the door like that when she left the house and i think that is what made it hot. my lights are on 12/12. i bought another turbo fan to put in the doorway that blows all the air out of there now. i am going to add an additional fart fan above the ballast in the back there. the main thing is the door to this room HAS TO STAY OPEN WHENEVER THE LIGHT IS ON and that is on me. too late after 8am and they will get hot. too later after 8pm and they will get more than 12 hrs of light and hermie. i have to be here at those times.. i cant leave early and not come home and shut the door, as was done. not enuf ventilation with just the one fan. maybe with two, but still doubt it. it stays 80 to 85 with the door open. when it was closed, who knows, but too f'in much.

Your issue wasnt the light .I think it was lack of air curculation. What size light is that?I have run a 400 watt HPS in a closet 1/4 that size with no real heat issue. All I had for ventalation was a fan up top and a cracked door.

it is a 1000W. no it's not the light, it's the temps i am running. today, with the new turbo fan blowing the crap out of the air in there, my thermometer read 87. in grow they were getting up to 95 and over 100 and only when it was about 105 i started to get some leaf curl. they pulled out of it in grow, but don't kid me, these guys are NOT going to pull out of it. they are going to die. you can see from the progression of my pics. nothing i have done has had any effect. a month ago, when my plants were doing the same thing, totally dropping dead, i thought it was cause i peed on them. i only peed on one, but i mixed some in with water for two or three others, and then when they also died, i blamed it on the pee.

now i am sure that i killed just one with full strength pee, and the others were from the heat.

i did not get around to installing the second fart-fan today. but i will do it asap as this has to be done. i may, given the 87F with the new fan, cut me some other kind of fresh air access supply hole since i obviously need one. if that doesnt work i will cut the sheet rock out of the ceiling (which gives access to the open attic) the whole length of the room. in fact, i might just do it anyway.

say what? U peed in the soil indoors(without any exhaust) at 105f ? :weakestli No wonder they caved :D

i wish i had a room that size. you can surely figure out your air problems, and utilize that room to get things under control. if that is your only problem.....

thx for post and piks Marquis,
Plz no stoning folks.
i have had some nute ( Pee) and heat issues also. never use straight piss there are some informative post concerning its' use. it needs more like 200,100 or 50 of h2o to 1 urine. i seem to have some problems when i mixed 4 tsps + 1/4 tsps fish emulsion/ gal
and
like you HIGH temps 90F+ i 'm going back to 1 or 2tsps of urine to 1gal of H2O and ph alone. that's 1/400 or 1/200 urine to H20 per gal. Likewise
i ll increase Fan action. wishme luck, GhGhdagga
Seemingly indicas have more high temp issues than the tropical sativas. I hope some your plants recover.good luck

I didn't mean to offend you... I can't help myself but laugh about people peeing on their plants. When I think of urine + plants I always imagine dogs causing brown spots all over the lawn.

Lol wow well pee can be used as a source of nitrogen but it must be diluted! lol

People please keep your urine out of your plants unless its for personal use, thank you! :) I found this to be a problem when i ran into a grower with Hepatitis C that pee'd in his plants and didnt think that was a problem.

Maybe we should start a new section in Growers Forums titled Post Mortems.

You know your plants best but from what I can tell, they look like they may survive, assuming the root mass wasn't damaged severely. Maybe that's the issue? Was the medium moist when you got to them?

On the bright side, worst case scenario: It could of caused a fire. I had my tiny closet go up to 110F for a few hours and there was damage to the ballast (paint began chipping off. The ballast itself was more than 110F) and a few clones died. My trees survived without a scratch (they were in veg) probably because I had watered the 5 gallon buckets the night before. I spent the next 2 weeks re-doing my entire grow so that it could function without me having to open doors or turn an AC on/off periodically.

Go out and buy some timers and get your setup done right. I used to grow exactly like you did. Most things manual, put off grow chores, etc. I ended up seeing friends who invested money and did things properly outgrow me quick.
