So I was curious to try growing some automatics this summer. Got my hands on some Lowryder 2 and it came with Snowryder and Auto Assassin freebies.

In the end, I have 2 feminized Snowryders, one Lowryder 2, and a male Auto Assassin which I pollinated the automatics with, for seeds. I think the breeding will create a unique plant which takes the best from the low/snowryder family and adds height and yield from the Auto AK 47 genes of the Auto Assassin.

I planted in early June, and now the autos are about 3 days into flowering. To my surprise, the automatics are quite short in stature, about 5-6 inches, and already have nice pistils forming. I wonder if this plant will gain any height during August while flowering?

In addition I planted a Sour Jack freebie from Alien(Sour D x Jack Herer supposedly), which is growing very healthy and vibrant.

Nice plants...I had a male that looked like your assian, I saved the pollen not knowing what it was. Seed came from a varity pack. Interesting.

For those experienced in autos, does the plant gain any size while flowering or does it stay short throughout the flowering phase? I would like the plants to gain a bit more, right now it looks like the would each only produce about 6-10 grams?

Looks really close man, have you pollinated any of your autos with it yet? The problem with the current genetics is that they are way too short. I think 4 weeks veg is too little time for a sufficient enough harvest, although who knows, I have at least another month for these to finish.

SR Early flower

Couple days from finish

If your expecting punds or OZ's, snowryder for sure isn't the AF for you. You'd get closer to a zip, and taller plants with the LR2. AAK AF's also do good outside, far better than snowryder. From what i see this year.

Ok so from what I can tell, they will stay short, just gonna bulk up. My best SR is starting to branch out, but is not stretching out - looks more like an umbrella type form. Perhaps I can get some popcorn buds from those branches. I think I'm gonna have a way bigger harvest from the Sour Jack, which isn't automatic, and is gonna keep veging till the end of august. Its already double the size of my autos.

I've grown all three strains that you are growing. My LR IIs ranged in size from about 8" up to about 18". AA were in the 12-18" range. I've got 4 Snowryders going right now. One is very sativa like and about 20" tall with fluffy buds. The other 3 around 12" with tight buds. I've found that the bigger you get autos in veg the more they will produce. After about 5 weeks or so they won't put on much more height but the buds will fatten up considerably.

Quick update for you guys. Its been 26 days since my autos have begun flowering. Its coming down to the last couple weeks. The snowryders have begun to show signs of maturation, some of the pistils are beginning to turn orange. The two snowryders show different traits, one of them is a classic sativa with no branching while the other is a christmas tree shape, with tons of side branching. The Lowryder 2 is also fattening up, and is significantly thicker than the snowryders. While the snowryders have a faint scent of cantaloupe and a certain white widow sourness, the lowryder 2 gives off a strong scent reminiscent of slightly rotten cantaloupe. We've had about 3 days of rain here so I'm scared that a bit of the frost came off of the top buds and decreased the potency of the plants. I tried my best to cover the plants and even took a blow-dryer to them when they got soaked. I don't think it did much damage, but that rotten cantaloupe scent of the Lowryder 2 may be attributed to the rain?

By the way, my Sour Jack has gotten huge, with tons of side branching. It started to flower about 5 days ago when I topped it. The Skunk #1 is also making a comeback, and will be a nice smoke, hopefully its a girl. I want to top it as well and force it into flowering so that by the end of October all plants can be harvested.

The pistils are turning 50% orange/red right now. I am deliberating on harvesting within the next day or so. Should I wait around for about 80-90% red hairs on these automatic strains? Im looking for a more sativa up high, so any suggestions from people who have grown and these strains would def be helpful.

I´ve grown my autos in 20-50 lit tubs, about 4 plants in a tub, and they seem to grow in stature with more room for roots -LR2 about 50cm, Auto Hindu Kush 50cm, Blueryder about the same but Dieselryder is so far the highest yielder. Mossy´s Jem showed two phenos, one about 25cm and not yielding much but the biggest one branched out well and is the biggest yielder so far but the total yield of 6 females wasn´t great. They all smoke well.

I too am wondering about varying harvest options with these Autos.
Do the trichomes get milky to amber?
should we judge by the percentage of white/orange/red hairs?
Wait for the fox-tailing to halt?
Leaf discoloration?

Anybody who's Harvested enough of these, any tips?

Yes, the trics on autos will turn milky, then amber, same as full sized plants. I'm finding it hard to get them past about 20-30% amber without the buds starting to turn brown. I attribute this more to the hot weather we've been having this summer. So to avoid that I'm been picking them a little early. My fall harvest last year and early harvest this year produced much better results due to the cooler temps at that time.

Generally I find that the plant is ready when all of the fan leaves, including the secondary ones are gone. The trics will be turning by this point. I also think it's important to remove the fan leaves as soon as they have turned mostly brown. Unlike a full sized plant where they will usually fall to the ground, with autos they tend to wilt down and lay on the bud, especially if they get wet. This will promote bud rot so keep them cleaned up.

Hey guys, its been 35 days total in flowering, I am dying to chop these guys. For those who have experience, is it worth it to wait until 45 days to chop? Im looking for an "up" high, def not couchlock. What should I do, is it too early to harvest?

Pinch a small bud and give it a try. Personally, I'd wait. I had to pick some early this year due to hot, humid conditions causing some bud rot. It's not as potent as the ones that go full cycle.
