Soil Too Hot, Remedies

So I made a batch of soil about 36 gallons worth and I'm starting to put some girls into it only to find that the soil is too hot. I cooked it for 2 weeks and let it sit for a couple more before putting girls in. Its looking like I over ferted to soil mix. I've asked about my mix before on this thread.

Is their a way to save my batch of soil so it doesn't go to waste?

TIA

My soil is also too hot, alteast for one of my plants. I dont really know what to do to fix it either, but my one is showing definite signs of too much N.

If you're absolutely sure it's too strong a soil and not too hot (ie; you're sure it's sit long enough to cook) you could leach it by running water through pre-filled pots prior to planting anything in it. What's making you say it's too hot per se?

Just saw blwd's post... if it's N, leach it. N washes out the easiest & it should help chill the claw out.

& just read your thread w/the mix. Seems a bit N heavy given what I use myself but that's a bit of wormhole in and of itself so YMMV.

dilute it with some unferted mix. if a plants has been in it only a week or so you could try to remove it from the unrooted soil and dilute that, then pot it up again.

If your mix is organic then all of the microbeasties will hold on to the nutes no matter how much you flush your plants. The only solution is to get them out of that soil as soon as possible. JMHO. I have done the same thing a number of times.

yep flushing/leaching organic soil will do little to remove the ferts and then the soil will also be very wet which may lead to other problems.

I just transplanted the troubled plant two days ago. The plant is from a Safari Mix from Mandala so I am not really sure what it is exactly. I guess I will be transplanting again into diluted soil. Thanks.

OP let us know what happens.

With hot soil, you only have two options, #1 you can cut it with perlite or #2 let it sit for a couple more weeks. I recommend letting it sit. I use manure, guanos, and whatever "meals" are on sale in my mix, and I let everything cook at least 30 days, and no problems.

Flushing it with water just seems like it wouldn't fix the problem and still wash out everything you built your soil with.....SC
