I just got a deal on some commercial high bays. I remote ballist them. My ? is can I use the same fixture and just change the ballist and the bulbs? It seems as the sockets are the same. Thanks in advance.

high man, first, what do you mean by the title of
this thread? 'hps - mh same fixture'

both need different ballasts but can often use the
same socket size so dismantling and remoting the
ballast is fine and you can use the rest of the fixture,
socket included, as long as you use the same type of
bulb.

do not put a mh bulb in a fixture plugged into an
hps ballast or vice versa.

Are you sure this isn't legit?? I was under the impression you could run a MH bulb on a HPS ballast without much problem, the bulb will go bad faster but besides that its fine. From what I remember the only difference between a HPS and MH ballast is the ingnitor.

Yea if they are not switchable ballast I wouldn't do it man could cause a fire quick.

I'm not using the same ballist, just the fixture,i.e. socket, reflector ,cord. Different bulbs in the same fixture.
