10lb per month production, 2005

Hello good sirs,

Ive just started posting again the last few days and unfortunately all my pictures from the past i lost 2 years ago. These mushroom pics are the only ones left of that era and represent a production run in 2005. I'm not going to get into too much detail and will just present the pics sort of as-is and then if anyone has any specific questions I'll be glad to answer. This was just before upgrading to a rather large autoclave and vacuum bag system which vastly increased production. Within a few months the regional market crashed from the glut and soon after the property i was renting (hehe) was sold and I havent returned to a full on production run. So basically these pics consist of an operation that yielded an average of 10lbs per month over approx. 1 yr. I used a liquid inoculant and a brown rice/rye flour and vermiculite medium. Losses from contamination averaged 3%, with lowest being 1.4%. The exact number escapes me now but I had more than 1200 frickin bernardin jars! Surprisingly not that much labour, i had a helper with me and it required about 10-15 hrs each per week on average which was why i was always pushing for the big bad autoclave. Running that many jars in 6 pressure cookers on 2 stoves was a bastard, to be sure.

Anyhow, enjoy!

Very impressive, basic, and easy.

I had a similar setup back in the day.

Great memories!

(Harvesting bulk is a huge task, I know, LOL) :D

I'm not suggesting you ever sold your shrooms... but out of curiosity, how much was a pound of mushies going for wholesale back then where you are?

What size are those tubs anyways? Also what is the Plastic PVC Tubing attached to the tub? Is that just for air exchange?

Did you use a humidifer in the room?

Hehe, hey guys! I wasn't expecting any replies so quickly! You can see in the shot of the tubs that they're not all the same in terms of holes and tubes. This is because i was experimenting for the optimal distribution. I used the tubes to prevent contamination by putting alcohol soaked cotton swabs in them as a line of defense. I was playing around with ventilation because you can see in some of the pics those little wierd mutant buttons. It was hard to pin down and i never quite did find the true reason but i determined it had something to do with ventilation, possibly an increased level of carbon dioxide or monoxide. Those buttons were absolutely ridiculously potent however, like on the order of one or two buttons would thoroughly penetrate. Of course, yield was abysmal with the buttons, sometimes whole trays would go and others one jar would go in a tray of 24. The prices in my region at the time were pretty much where Nic's prices were at, then someone I heard about came in with a tight little undercut, lol. Of course after several months of the expansion, the price crashed and I heard someone was sitting on piles even at 600 a lb!

Ah cool greek, I was just curious. Always nice to see other people with bulk growing experience.

:D

Dude you blow it up big! one day I aspire to have something going like this but need to get my sterile tek down. Ive always thought it would be hard to move shrooms but damn... Ever consider growing an exotic strain?

Trying to move shrooms in this market is a hit or miss. Doesn't seem to be much interest in them as of late. I just put 2 tubs of Tasmanian in to fruit, but lately i've been fighting an uphill battle with bacteria contams. Can't seem to shake the damn stuff, keeps fermenting my shit before I get a chance to harvast.

You can do it dest! Thats why i decided to post the pics, maybe inspire a new generation! After all, i was only 23 when i was doing this lol! The sterile work is straightforward and will come to you but is impossible without a flow hood. So do what i did and build one out of plexi and hepa filters. Save quite a few bucks there, and you don't need to do a liquid inoculation, rye grain starter would work although increase of labour and contamination points. The magnetic stirrers for liquid are expensive but you can also make your own like I did as well.

Anyhoo, I did actually grow out a number of strains. I'd have to dig through my notes somewhere from the period but i did around 10 strains total, from mexican landrace kind of stuff through to the b+ kind of stuff. I played around with hybridizing but ultimately I ended up 'cloning' the highest yielding batches and these pics are all of the final production strain. There was quite a bit of variation in potency, yield and general morphology amongst the strains. I selected for yield and purpling when bruised and in some of the pics you can see alot of colour. Having eaten a fair amount over the years, this strain was one of the most potent absolutely.
