Could be a speck of dust, a bug egg, a tiny piece of perlite, a tiny gall that's formed due to surface irritation of the leaf, etc.

When in doubt remove it, but a tiny dot isn't always something to panic over if you have zero other symptoms.

I found a second one, on a second plant, again on the stem of a leaf.

a few more pics.

edit: I use my camera as my scope, but I'm the type to leave ak47 go to 75.

What are your observations and ideas? I understand you're looking for help because you're not an expert but when you solve the mysteries on your own it's a more gainful practice. How else are you going to become an expert? Look, smell, hear, touch, and if safely possible taste. It doesn't look or sound like its an animal so rule out the insect possibilities unless you observe that it's an animal or egg.

I think it could be an egg.

I'm not freaked out or anything. I just figured someone might know, and if it's a certain kind of critter, I could be ready to deal with an outbreak.

It seems as I've noticed these 2, and not seen any bugs, it's likely not something to worry about. I did collect those 2 samples, and put them in a jar. If anything hatches, I'll post a pic!

I think you have a serious problem... your plant has contracted an STD... it has less than 6 months to live.... rofl looks like a sort of egg/nest.. pick it off and possibly some of the growth around it... don't risk it when your NOT sure...better to sacrifice a few branches/leafs than risk an entire garden... was it hard to pluck off? Or did it come right off? Almost looks like Scale but there's usually a bunch more than 2, but they always seem to start on the stalks like that. If it turns out to be Scale, neem worked really well after 3 applications on my Lilacs

It's a little bit of the plant juice that seeped out & hardened in the air... the plant bled a little is all.

We get inadvertent cuts & bruises all the time! Same thing for the plants.

She's cool. Peace.

Usually sap will dry to be hard and brittle with a bit of color to it. If this is wettish I'd guess it's something different.

I think it was sap. no bugs. I just put tomato cages around those 2 plants a couple weeks before, so they must have been nicked. (tomorrow, I'll walk in the room, and it'll be infested LOL

It looks like the egg of a butterfly or moth. Remove them all with a moist cloth.

Hope this helps.
