Worried Air Conditioner will SHOOT out SMELL

Just bought a 10k BTU A/C. Really worried it's going to shoot out the smell into the air. It's a WINDOW unit.

Will it suck out the smell or will it just shoot it back into the room? I do have a Carbon Filter.

Also will the A/C suck out CO2 if i decide to use it???

What can I do to prevent either? Do I have to worry about this? Or not really?

I was thinking of getting a Ozone Generator in the room too if I need it...

yes yes yes and no LOL

you will need to seal all off it is very surprising how many leaks you will find on a window ac unit. i used some expanding foam on mine and it worked like a charm. the ac will leak
CO2 unless you seal the thing and make sure if it has a fresh air inlet to plug that sucker as well. i was thinking of building an ozone generator for my room but thank god the guys here let me know that that was a very bad idea. i use a couple UV filters and they work great you wont ever have to mess with a carbon filter again

awww damn....

so is the leaks just around the unit??? i'm freaking out right now. i can't have the a/c leak any smell out... i was even thinking of drilling out a hole in the wall and putting it through there

yo.. I grew last year in a sealed room within a room with a window ac and co2
so to find out about the smell i sprayesd deoderant at the front of the ac and the smell definitley came out the back, same with my portable ac.. So bcos the ac was in a room the smell wasnt a problem.
As for co2 wastage, i was goin thru a tank every 2 weeksp, and now they last me 3 weeks with a split system ac which dont leak... So yeh doable but not good long term, split system is king, set and forget

and yeh like dude said, seal a good as u can, window ac's are basically see thru, many leaks

I dunno your situation, but you could grow in a tent, inside the room with the Ac in it, and scrubb the air leaving the tent, so that the air is scrubbed before it hits the AC. the AC cooled air will then get sucked back into the tent.

Yes. Your A/C unit will blow the smell right the fuck out. I know because it got me busted.

The carbon filter is useless unless you separate your grow area from the A/C unit, and put the filter inside the separated area.

you had a window unit??? sealed?

i thought a/cs worked by replacing the hot air?? not releasing it???

I hear alot of talk about portables and even some window units leaking smell.

But I have never had that happen.

9KW sealed flower room with can 150 recirculating and 24KBTU LG AC

5KW mom/clone room sealed with can 150 and LG AC unit

Drying room that had 20-30 dry pounds in it with can 150 and LG AC unit.

Never had smell leak out. Maybe its the LG unit as I used the same model (different units) or I was so used to weed I didnt notice it. But w/o getting into details I can tell you I had LEO where that mom and drying room exhausted too and they had no idea.

Hello...

I growit in a box within a room that is ina centrally airconitioned
home. In the room there is a 12k portable that exhausts into the garage..
in the garage there is a ozone generator at the exhaust point AND moth balls on the floor during bloom..

And it smells in the garage.. the smell 'is' somewhat different
with only 2 plants/600w..

Good Luck...

As everyone has said the window a/c unit will exchange smell with the outside world, like tilt said jjscorpio's sealed window a/c setup may be your best bet .Another option is to change it out for a stand alone, jj's fix is much cheaper.. good luck bro !!

like dtfsux said the LG a/c's are nice. foaf has the 15000btu unit and it does not leak smell through the unit. with a huge can filter(can 100? its over a hundred pounds of filter) and 1000cfm recirculating directly next to the a/c, and the recirculating lever depressed on the LG A/C. there is hardly any smell in flower room until you brush past the plants. foaf has 32 sqft of canopy, running some real stinkers and without the can fan/filter combo the skunk smell could maybe penetrate through the walls even!

check your A/C manual for the vent lever. foaf made sure to buy an A/C with a lever to make certain the A/C wasn't exchanging inside air with the outside air. foaf has noticed that the larger the window A/C, the less likely it is to leak smell because the back part of the unit is larger, further for the smell to penetrate.

i rocked a banger for a couple years, and they most def shoot out the smell from inside the room, like dmt said charcole filter is a must , i just had it discharging the hot side into the rest of basement as opposed to outside for everyone to smell, also depends on the strain we do kush, so its a real stinker.

Most window units have open/closed positions, of course always run "closed" this way co2 will re-circulate and the rooms already cooled air too.
I burn a dozen incense sticks in the room to check for leaks, smoke is visible so it aids sealing!
Having a larger than needed ac is better as it will cool quicker and run less often.
Running a ozone prior to carbon filters will increase the life of the carbon! I use a baffle to get a good mix before exhausting.

What about a box in front of the intake grill with a cone charcoal filter and a fan pulling through the filter helping the intake fan in the a/c.

A pc fan or a duct buster will help out the intake fan since you are building a box around the intake?
