Ventilation

I have five plants growing in my closet under a 250w blue spectrum cfl, they're three weeks old now and look very healthy and have been growing nicely. In a week or two I'll be switching to 12/12 and putting them under 500w red spectrum cfl.

When I read on here I get concerned about my grow because everyone seems to have much more complex ventilation set ups than me. I basically have an oscillating desk fan in there, and that's it. I leave the door to the closet open slightly and temps are usually between 75-85 degrees. Will the air need to be moved around more when I get into flowering? I really can't cut out holes in the closet for exhaust and intake fans as I'm in a rented apartment.

If you wanted to put a complex ventilation system in you could consider making your room a bit bigger, simply unscrew the door and get some wood and extend it, you can cut holes in the wood and when the time comes to move out then you can just screw the door back on and no-one is wiser.

Just a thought man

Is a good idea but I don't have the space to do it. Was silly of me to use the wardrobe that came with the flat rather than just building my own box that I can poke holes etc in.

Really I want to know if my current set up which has worked fine through veg with just the slightly open door and desk fan will work through flowering too. And can I close the door for the 12 hours of dark each day to prevent light leaks?

Flowering requires more ventilation.....

I would consider at least doubling what you currently have

First things first - I saw no mention of a carbon scrubber. What are you doing for odor control?

The reason you need more venting during flower is grow area needs to be light tight total darkness during lights off period. It can be done by you it is more difficult though. Here is how.
1. first twelve hours you have to turn off the lights blow out the hot air and seal the closet. If you leave the fan running it might add to much heat try and find out.
2. 12 hours later you open the closet and turn on the lights and fan.

The problems with doing this is
1. You have to do this every day on time or risk a ruined harvest dead plants or hermis
2. No carbon scrubber means your flat will stink like weed and you will have a security issue
no matter what strain you grow ( might use ona to cover the smell )

Hollow doors are pretty cheap cut a passive vent at the bottom with a dark room louvre and a fan scrubber combo at the top and don't deal with the BS above

The strain I'm growing is Skunk #1, I've heard it's particularly smelly...
It's already smelly three weeks into veg in fact.

Thanks for all the replies guys, definitely opened my eyes, I'll be going to get a carbon filter this week without doubt.

SKUNK #1
Is very nice strong smelly strain and a lovely smoke as well.
The longer you cure it the better it tastes and smells. Its one of my favorite strains.
