Forgive me, for I am high, so I may have misunderstood, but if I had a guess, it would be difference in surface area between the adult and the cutting. Since the adult is so much bigger, she will absorb and evaporate more.

Just a thought!

Peace, sg

the more roots the more they will absorb not the size of the plant the key to a biger better grow like any thing you build

While I agree with the fact that a strong root system is essential to a productive grow, I don't think it is necessarily true that more roots = more absorption. I've had plants with very nice root systems that I have put back into reveg after chopping off 90% of her leaves and you really do not have to water her much after that. Maybe once a week. That lack of leaf surface area makes the respiration rate much slower and therefore there is a lower rate of nutrient/water uptake.

Just sayin'

Thanks hempy for this method...im in my first grow in week 2 of flowering ...i did what hepmy does and im having NO PROBLEMS...i was worried about my water at first being to high in ph 7.5 but the GH nutes lucas formula makes it go to 6.0-6.5...this has been the best method for me as a new grower to get his feet wet

I couldnt do it ezactly like hempy i didnt have that much perlite...so mine was mostly half clay rocks and half perlite with a top layer of rocks...the males i cut down after 1.5 months veg and 1 week of flower had very nice white roots....i also recovered 90% of my medium back to reuse it

But since reading and seeing hempy now uses coco now i think imma use it my next run

Im starting to see the buds forming and all i can say is THANK YOU:thank you: dalaihempy...cause without you or your method i would of surely failed with my pumps and timers and nozzels and gadgets...K.I.S.S. is the way to go

Now if you only had a simple method for odor control lol
Added:Also i took me some clones and placed them in lucas formula soaked rockwool couple weeks later i got roots...keeping it simple is paying off for me big time...all my clones are healthy and vigorous

hi guys look i don't understand this classic hempy part i have used only perlite clay rocks for years before i even posted this method on line i have had as good in fact to date my best yield has come from coco core 21 oz cured trimmed from 1 plant grown in a 10 lt bucket.

Hempy method as people call it is the bucket with the internal rez and controlled by the rez drain hole not the mediums they can very and some have even used rock wool i just gave a formula that worked best that was proven and fool proof people can very mediums i like the perlite vermic as it holds more nutrient rich water than perlite or clay rocks but coco holds even more yet allows airation its really up to the grower wich medium they like and well also availability is key to the coco core i have only been playing with it a year or 2 now and as soon as i fine tuned it to the bucket i posted it for any that wanted to try it i my self love coco core great medium.

dalihempy,

Thanks for the great information and for the most efficient and easy hydro setup I've used. I have seen this mix of per/verm so often I Ass u me d it was the classic hemp bucket media. Perlite is a good media but does dry too quickly and is too light when dry. I'm going to have to try a coco core bucket or two next round. Thankyou kindly,
HM

Wouldn't that be runoff? "water starts to come out the drain hole"

But I do have 1 serious ? for you. What is the point of the hole drilled 2's from the bottom of the pot?

Im not being sarcastic its just that i thought it was a drain hole on the side of the pot instead of the bottom.

LoL

Two inches from the bottom = on the side
On the bottom = on the bottom

Looking forward to my second attempt with the Hempy...... two gallon buckets - 60/40 Coir / coarse perlite mix...

Carl with your attempt at this. The bottom of you Hempy will remain coarse perlite up to the 2 inch drain hole. Then the rest of the pot with a 60/40 Coir/Coarse Perlite Mix?

a giant-sized hempy question

a giant-sized hempy question

greetings to all fellow hempy bucket growers...

a question for the master... dalaihempy himself...

i have 6 outdoor 12 gallon all-perlite hempy buckets growing.

they started in one gallon square pots, then were placed in 3 gallons, which were later placed in 12 gallon containers with about 5 inches of perlite on the bottom. the rest of the 12 gallon container is empty and the top is covered with plastic to keep the evaporation down and humidity up inside the containers

they are huge and consume 15 to 18 GALLONS of GH nutes each day right now...

my question is this... would filling in the rest of the 12 gallon container with peat or coir allow the root system to expand upwards into this area also ... can roots grow upwards into this new territory?

i hope my words convey my question adequately...

all the best...

how can a 12gal container hold 15g-18g of nutrient a day? How big are the plants, how many holes are in the bucket, how extensive is the root system how much runoff is occuring? Not trying to be rude by any means, just trying to see how this is working out. How much are you spending on nutes for this grow? I run 20 plants in 3g-5g containers and I water them all on 4g every two days...and I may be underfeeding my ladies, but I'm pulling a decent amount of smoke, perpetually.
To answer the question (I'm not claiming to be dalai) but I think the roots will grow wherever they can. If your plants are still vegging the root growth will continue, but if she's making buds, I doubt the plant will use any energy in root production. But I'm just an amateur and could be way off on everything.

hey dubwise... thanks for your feedback!

6-12 gallon containers... 3 to 5 waterings each day... 18 gallons yesterday... 82 degrees and windy.

root system has filled the first two containers in each bucket very densely. can't tell how much root has expanded into the perlite in the bottom of the 12 gal container... very little runoff occurs...i just water till they begin dribbling

use GH nutes... becoming quite expensive... never tried this before outdoors! plants are stretching bigtime right now.... was thinking the same thing - roots will soon quit expanding soon, so why waste more medium?

plants are 7 to 8 feet tall... 3 are under a GIANT scrog about 7x10 feet... other 3 are freestanding and lollipopped... this was originally an indoor grow that i intended to transplant into the ground. the plants were doing so well i decided to keep them as hempies instead of transplanting.

edit:uploaded a few pics... L to R: 1 gallon square. view of all 3 pots, giant scrog (screen at 6 feet), scrog on left - non-scrog on right...

general organics

general organics

I am a newer hempy grower, and have 5 girls going into flower right now that are probably the best looking plants I've ever grown. Very vibrant and healthy looking.

I've been using GH and lucas formula.

I'm now wondering, has anyone used General Organics Vegan line with hempy buckets, or, is there any reason why it WOULDN'T work??

I've used it with organic soil for a few grows with success, but didn't know if they would be ok to apply and sit in the 2" rez. or if there is anything else that would make it a no/go.

Thanks!!

its almost ghost townish in here zendo...

i have outdoor hempys going with tomatoes in 12 gal containers... about 5 inches of perlite on the bottom, then filled with 'power flower' soilless mix... plants were started in 1 gal soilless mix and transplanted from the 1 gal into the 12 gal container... i topdress with dr earth all purpose fertilizer plus an occasional shot of foxfarm grow big if they look like they need it.

plants are doing good, exzcept for some leaf curling, but keeping them happy is more of a pain-in-the-ass than my medical cannabis hempy's on a straight GH/lucas-like diet...

i didn't fill up the rez or add additional nutes until the plants grew roots into the surrounding medium and expressed a need for more nutes and an ability to drink up the rez within a couple of days or so...

hope this helps and all the best to your efforts...
