those still subsidized by the gov?

Depends on where you are really but the prices of panels have dropped pretty significantly over the past year to year and a half. They are still expensive but you could always just take the time and make them yourself. In my area yes they are still subsidized, however the power costs in my are are lower than the national average so it doesn't really behoove me to buy/make any. Now if I moved to Cali where energy is absurdly expensive, I just might think about it. Lol. As far as in Australia or New Zealand I don't know, it would take quite a few calls to find out would be my guess. The govt gives subsidies here in the states but energy companies also give their own subsidies so you really have to call around. Best of luck.

dirty mongrels, can't trust em ay. Make sure you got no plants running (maybe move em into a van even for a bit) and take it up with them if you can.

Solar panels work a treat. :dance013:

60 cents a kilowatt you get paid for your power from green souce's thats about 3 for 1 .Solar is paying better than the banks at the moment whilst it is being subsidised!

Yes its bullshit how the power has gone up, and i hear its going up again soon. I still dont know why Nuclear power wasnt put in here 15 years ago, now i am rethinking my lighting for my new room i am about to construct, but being a person who believes in 600 watta's are the best all round light, i do estimate my power bill will be around 800 bucks everytime from now on......

Gday m8 in our experience the meters are only read every six months and the bills in the interim are averages from your previous bills
I have had this happen b4 after being in a place for a while i stared growin, a couple bills came in normal then i was hit with a $1300 bill
From then on i have been smart
From the time i start growing i figure out how much usage i'm consuming(roughly) and then find out how much your paying per/KW

E.g. you say you have 1600w off lights going 12/12
@ a high rate of 17cents/KW = $22.85 per week
x4 =$91.39 a month

Now i know how much power $wise i'm using i get an old bill and pay $25 a week.
That way after 6 months or until they do the next meter reading i know i'm covered and will only have a bill for general use
My rate is a bit lower that .17c per/Kw and some suppliers give off peak rates too
I calculated my last usage @.17/Kw and my recent bill came in, in credit by about $20 which was a good surprise, i have been at the same location for a while so my average bills are pretty close to right

Hey, does anyone have any info on the new 'smart' meters?
I saw on the news tonight that about 2 million more homes are getting them.

I've heard through the grapevine that these meters can store information of your elecricity usage and track it over time. I'm worried that my old analogue one might get replaced and the new one will pick up a few thousand watts kicking in every 12 hours!

I'm really hoping this is just a rumour.....

:gday:
