What's new

do fishtank products work for growing?

well i have a good bit of leftover fish products now can products like "chlor-out" which is a chlorine nutralizer, and ph up and ph down products work for additives when trying to adjust ph and remove chlorine from city water supply? if they have any negative effects let me know

they are awesome, however they cost too damned much to buy to use.

so if you are like me and just want to use them up. go right ahead.

fish are VERY sensitive to anything, and will drop dead if ANYTHING is the least bit wrong. that is why EVERYTHING is dead in the gulf now.

i was using fish ph up but it's like $5 for a tiny 4 oz bottle, whereas GH's PH up is $10 for a quart. as for the chlor-out, i havent used on plants because i am still using fish tank water, which the bubblers get the chlorine out within 24 hrs anyway. i just have goldfish, so i don't care if they get chlorine or not, you almost can't even kill them things. not like the fish above i refer too, actual tropical fish. my discus didn't care. plants wont either. for my good fish i use the chor-out (prime) when i add water. real fish don't like chlorine. goldfish arn't real fish in my book, they are a carp. kinda like a catfish. they'll live in nuclear waste

It's the saltwater "reefing" crowd that has the good items that can be used for both hobbies.
PPM meters, ph meters/controllers, co2,float switches, lights/ballasts, timers, air/water pumps, RO filtration, etc. :)

Durka, my city sends me a letter once a year with the water quality details.
I Imagine they would be able to send a copy of their last findings to you.

Check your city's website. Mine publishes it for the past 10 years.

Just call the city water dept and tell them you brew your own beer and you would like to know your waters chemical make up. They will put on the phone with someone who will explain it to you and they sent me it all on paper.

there is a gulf oil thread in the lounge. rocky, you are lucky you live in FL and not MS or AL, however, luckier still that you live on land and breathe air. hoping you can make the same statements thru out the year. i really do. i think we all do

There's my insanely cheap solution for Chloramine. 5 bucks to treat 5000 gallons or so.

That said, I'm lazy, and have been using "AquaSafe" to treat for Chloramine. 5 bucks or so to treat 500 gallons, and they sell large bottles too (33 ounces for 12 bucks, or about 2000 gallons.)

So yea, I can vouch for this product at least, as my plants have been cool.
