i don't think they really care as long as you pay them i've had £750+ a qrt before and just recently i'm using about £40 a week on a top up key and have done for the past 5 years with no bother just pay them and don't fuck with the meter saying that at my old place no one came in in 2yrs to read it i just used to put a card at the window with the numbers on for the meter man

I work for an energy company and as above really just pay when you get the bill or set up dd, do not try stealing the electric, and when a meter reader comes make sure your place does not stink like a cannabis farm, which you would be suprised at the amount of stoners who answer the door with a huge joint while asking the meter reader to please walk around the plants and not touch them lol.

Excellent advice Speedemon  Still amazed that anyone would answer the door during or after smoking, must lead to a decent amount of busts. Had the police at the door a couple of weeks ago while I was in the middle of skinning up asking a completely random question ('do you know such+such' no 'ok, bye'), if they'd knocked ten minutes later I wouldn't have answered but they'd probably have still smelled it.

Anyway, I've heard of one person who had the power company call them asking about high consumption as they though someone must be stealing leccy. Guy just explained he's into technology and not energy saving. Power co said OK as long as noone is stealing your leccy.

Thats re-assuring cos i've always wondered if top up meters are more of a risk than standard meters . The guy in your local shop must think "damn he uses alot of electric" LOL .
I guess the system is all computerised now anyway tho so no-one at the elec company even knows about it ?.

actually saying that when i moved in i had a electric key in the landlord name, i rang up and requested gas card in my name and asked to change electric in my name, i went from not growing to almost not been hear for a few month when my little girl was born, to 250w 24/7 then 600w 12/12 then to 3 600w 12/12 & 200w 24\0 so my usage has been up n down, i went to top up n the key wasn't working rang them up and the gas showed in my name but the electric wasn't shows how much attention they pay, saying that i've heard of police contacting an electric company after to see how long you've been at but not before hand

pay your bills on time. and you'll have nothing to worry about. my mate was running a 4 600w light setup in his 2 bedroom flat., while living there. his bill came in at over 2 g's. he went in paid it no questions asked. another person i know has a 1 bedroom flat and runs between 8-10 6oo's on a pre pay meter. he has been doing this for about 2 years and no problems. i think he's crazy for doing it but he gets away with it. as long as your not stealing your lecky you'll be ok.

FYI unless you're in debt to the power company there's no need to have those meters. You pay for the privelage of having them in your house, work out a lot more expensive than paying bills. Just helped a mate with his first grow and he was spending a good deal more than I do and my grow is bigger. Just phone up and ask to get them removed if you're not in debt to them.

Yeah when we moved to our knew place we had a top up meter for leccie and gas. Don't owe money. So recently I asked for the meters to be removed and was told it would cost about 250. quid....robbing bastards.

Oh yeah back to the point we top up on leccie at about 40. quid a week. More now than when I started but leccie's gone up....doing it like this for over 10 years with no prob's.

I remember a school caretaker got done, for growing in the school boiler room when the school noticed the lecci bills had gone up by a couple grand a time. But doing that that was a bit suss to start with.

Same situation here eccept it they took mine away for free. Phone them and tell them you're changing company unless they remove it. If they still refuse tell them they'll be hearing from your solicitor. They'll say anything to keep people using them as they make more money off them.
I've got another mate in a very dodgy area and they say they wont remove it because of the postcode (ie if you live there you will be in debt sooner or later), in my eyes that's discrimination which is illegal any which way you look at it.

The prob with that for me is the meter is right next to my room so i don't really want engineers in here nosing around i'd rather just pay the extra then move on when i'm done .

Also the reason they charge for having an exchange to a normal meter is an upfront payment because they think they wont get the bill paid , usually because one of the previous tennants has'nt paid or had trouble paying , this could be from years back and not just the most recent tennant.

Well yes but why should you be paying for what a previous tennant did or didn't do? None of your concern, everyone should start with a clean slate. That would be like you getting a bad credit rating because someone who lived at your address missed some payments. I didn't have to pay to get my meter exchanged so why should anyone else?

the only thing to watch with a high bill

electric companies have access to your useage data, and use that to target people who use more electric, thus having a bigger invoice. you will get sales rep's knocking telling you that they are 1pence per unit cheaper, but for such a high user that would save you xxx amount per year

they fight for a growers custom :tiphat:

I totally agree with you , it's just the way some of these companies work, BT is exactly the same ,they will not connect your phone unless you pay upfront because someone at that address did'nt pay their bill .

I think it varies between the different elec companies as to how much they stick to it . Brit gas is pretty bad and boy do they chase you up if you dont pay! they are worse than MI6 ,like they are gonna put a contract out on you or something !
