high man, here's a couple links to something you might
find interesting, think 4ft T5 but folded in half.

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=143628<br />Preview of my pl-l micro closet.

...and here's a couple pics of my little clone box with
1x 55watt 3000K, 23inch bulb up top, over the cloners,
and 3x 55wat 6500K down below to provide light for short-term
vegging of newly rooted clones and, as a side benefit,
passively heating my cloner reservoir's.

these plls are just now coming into their own and you
might find them to be more versatile than standard T5's.

peace, SOG

aquarium mail order's have a good range at prices often well below shop price.
and their fixtures are HO and humidity resistant .
sorry can't recommend any as the one i like does only Australia

1000bulbs is one place you can find a broad spectrum of lights and ballasts. The fullham are exceptional.

ahsupply.com - I own several of their kits that I use on reef and planted aquariums, the kits are a bit pricey but its everything you need. I just wish I could source those 2g11 moisture resistant end caps.

an electrical wholeseller like platt or CED will have some cheap t5 fixtures, way cheaper than the grow store, and ask if they have a dented one that u can buy for cheap.
GOOD LUCK

you can also find some awesome deals at builders
salvage yards.

fact is though, PL-L's blow T5's away, period.

peace, SOG

btw, i own both so i'm not just talkin' out my ass.

i grow hydro has the best prices i have seen on t5s 4ft 8 bulb with lamps is right under 200.00...189.00 i think and over 40000 lumens and no heat to worry bout shrpshooter

I have a sunsystems sunblaze T5 HO 6 tube lite. the bulbs are rated @ 54w
it puts out 30,000 lumens

the T5 HOs are the best lighting for seedlings and clones imo, Ive had mine for about a month and a half and after the 2nd week Ive been on the hunt for a smokin deal on a another.

My plants look sooooo good under it!!
get the HOs if your going to get a T5,
you won't regret it and your plants will love you for it.
my 6 lamp fixture has a recepticle so you can daisy chain up to 2 other lites to it.

If you do any amount of clone/seedling work I recommend you get the 8 bulb unit.
I wish I would havethe 8 but got I a smokin deal on the 6er.
also the 8 bulb unit has 2 on/off switches so if you don't have alot of plants you
can fire up 1/2 of the unit and save on some elec.
it also has the daisy chain feature like the 6 bulb unit

T5's are nice, no doubt about it, but, like i said above,
PL-L's are better, more versatile and more powerful.

here, check out what these guys are doing with them.

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=180493Anti's MicroStealth Cab 4000 (The PL-L adventure!)

oh yeah, there is no way you need anywhere near that
kind of power for cloning, i'm using a single 55watt PL-L
for cloning and i get near 100% and i can do 108 cuts
at a time under that single 55watter.

like i said, i own both a T5 and some PL-L's and IMO
the PL-L's beat the T5's in every way, period!

i posted pics above of my PL-L clone box, no way i
could have done that with T5's.

Tek Light T-5s in any size you want. You can get them from 2-6 feet and they are bright as f*ck!! TEK LIGHT is the ferrari of T-5s...I did hours of research. I own two 4 foot 8-bulb models and I am ordering a 4 foot 6-bulb and a 2 foot 4-bulb model within the next few days. Low heat and nice penetration! Really built to run all day and theres no heat coming from the top and minimal from the bulbs...You can also buy the setups without bulbs (for 100 bucks less usually) from an online aquarium store and purchase them separately from 1000bulbs for cheap in bulk. Just make sure to get 6500K for veg. Hope this helps! :D

EDIT: 4 foot 8-bulbs run around 370 without bulbs and free shipping...An extra 100 bucks from any hydro shop at around 475! Buy some extra bulbs.

I personally own a compact fluorescent setup (bent bulb)...And I'm pretty sure this is also know as PL-L. I own a 36" 4 bulb (which really looks like 8 bulbs). It's basically four 6' bulbs bent in half to fit in a 36" fixture. 96wx4=384 watts. There is NO WAY that my 384w power compact fixture is anywhere near as bright as the four foot 8-bulb T5's (or prob even a 6-bulb).

-Each 96w power compact bulb puts out 8100 Lumens x 4=32,400 lumens. (384W total)
-Each 54W T5 bulb puts out 5000 lumens x 8= 40,000 lumens. (432W total)

Yes, it sounds like I am comparing apples to oranges (3 foot light to 4 foot and slightly different in wattages) but let me explain...They are close to equal in wattage and the T5 puts out a much brighter light. I'm getting rid of the Aquarium light I modded to work for growing and getting another T-5 GROW light.

My compact fluorescent 3 foot aquarium fixture is getting replaced by a four foot 6-bulb T-5 and I'm even getting rid of small CFL lights about my cloner and putting in a two foot 4-bulb T-5.

You can get a case of fifty (yes, 50) T-5 bulbs for 125 bucks (pulserite is a good brand). PL-L bulbs are more costly than T-5 bulbs and haven't caught on with the growing community for a reason...They are not as good.

I'm saying all of this because I don't want people to make the learning curve "mistakes" that I made that I am now paying for. It's a great hobby so I don't mind spending more $$$ but I just wish I would've done it right the first time.
