plant is vegging weird??

So I got some seeds from a friend. They were from a BlueberryxHogsbreath plant that was polinated by a Bubbawreck that turned hermie.

I wasn't expecting a lot, just thought I'd try and grow them out since they were feminized. They weren't self pollinated so I don't think the high chance of hermie is there, right?

Real question though is, I have 2 that have been vegging for 5-6 weeks or so, they're under cfls and are in small pots so they're about 12 inches tall, 7-9 nodes. Plan was to take a couple cuts from each and flower those, thing is, they just grow STRAIGHT UP! Where the nodes split, there are just 2 little fan leaves, then goes up again. Both of the plants. There are NO side shoots whatsoever, there's only one clone on each plant, just the top. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, seen this, know what it is?

I tried to do a search on icmag and the web, didn't really come up with anything. I'm sure there's a term I'm not hitting on, help?

cut the very tip OFF,...just a tiny 5mm (1/8") cut to remove the growing shoot

this will force the lower branches to develop.

or just take ONE cut now(the growing tip), and then when the lowers develop, you can take more.

now, think about it,...you might just have cross bred a perfect SOG strain where you WANT each pot to be a straight stick with 10-20 grams on each with NO side branching, so you can get 4 per sq/foot in 6" pots.

if you keep the stress low, the chances of the hermie trait showing are less, so you COULD bend the tip, instead of cutting, but cutting works faster, especially if your strain has woody stems.

Small pots means straight stalk growing in my experience. Top them and re pot them in wider pots and they will branch.

When i vegg in one gallon pots they are always straight stalk growing for me. soon as i transplant they shoot out branches. The bigger the pot. the wider the plant always.

awesome, thanks guys. It did cross my mind that it was the small pot restricting the plant, but I have other strains in Dixie cups that branch out no problem. I'm sure it has something to do with the strains in the cross, and because of small pots..

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some crazy genetic mutation that I didn't know about, it's all a learning process but I didn't want to even fuck with them anymore if they were for sure bunk for some reason. I'll top em and transplant, thanks!!

p.s. that would be sweet if it turned out to be a good SOG strain!!
