Interesting and Shitty Fedex Story

A friend of mine I haven't seen in years gives me a call. He lives in a state where he has a real prescription and medical is OK. He was going to New York to visit friends for a couple weeks. Before he left he shipped 8 Grams via Fedex to himself in NY. He arrives, gets a call from the cops, and he is busted. Now he shipped as himself.

This whole things seems a bit odd but true. Look at Norml's NY law page, first and second offense with 25 grams or less is below a misdemeanor, it is a "civil citation". In the state he shipped from he has a card. It was 8 grams. Is this really how low the man is going these days? 8 grams is really worth trying to lock someone with a card up for? Just posting cause I'll be interested in finding out more details in a couple weeks when I chat with him again, but sad to see tax dollars used for shit like this when Meth is out of control.

Should of gone postal!
USPS not FedEx or UPS. USPS is your best bet.

Kind of did it to himself really. Doesnt sound like he tried too hard. :nono:
Good luck to your friend anyways. :ying:

Sorry about your friend man...that is really f****d. Trichosaurus, why do you say that about that about FedEx and UPS. why is USPS better?

Possession seems like the lesser issue here. The police are probably only involved because A: the carrier reported it B: interstate trafficking. I doubt local police even know what a card from several states away looks like, nor would they be likely to care.

did he try to be stealthy about it? or did he just put the herb in a fed ex box and mail it?

either way it sucks.

Because it requires a federal warrant to open USPS mail. FedEx and UPS can and do open packages at will all the time. Use a vacuum sealer, some security paper, etc and take the time to properly ship things, and they will arrive.

Disclaimer: I'm not condoning or encouraging any of you to ship anything illegal to anyone anywhere:p

I would think interstate shipping would warrant federal charges regardless of the method....

^ Bingo.

It ultimately doesn't matter which carrier you use... if it is discovered and the hammer drops, it will be pursued as a federal matter because of the "across state lines" aspect of it all.

That being said, it is true that the USPS needs a warrant to open any packages, while the private carriers do not need this.

I'm still staying out of contact but I found it was "8 ounces" and not 8 grams. Also interesting point is it never left the shipping facility, the people felt it was a "supicious" package and brought in the dogs. I know it was double vacuum sealed, and he was heading out for a 2 month job. Last I heard indircectly is they are yet to press charges, he is a card holder and has a legit argument in his home state that he would need extra to avoid buying illegal, but the amount he has is illegal from the start. I probably will know more in a week or two.

I don't ship, but, as I see it, at the post office you don't have to show id. I've noticed through my job that when I ship these days at fedex they set up an account and ask for ID. At the post office you can ship from a fake name to a fake or even mispelled name. The package arrives, you write "return to sender on it", and have patience and let it sit on a counter for 4 days. If the man shows up all you have to say is "I have no idea what it is, was going to drop it off for return shipping at the post office later this week."

Once you open it you claim it, but if you leave it unopened and paint the picture that you haven't had time to take it to the post office they can't touch you.

I know I live in a non-medical state, and I know I am already used to and familiar with the concept of being a criminal as a cannabis-user, so maybe my point doesn't matter here, but I keep thinking of what I would do if I were in a medical state and needed to travel... and the funny thing is, I don't even have to think about it... so I ask you guys here:

Why don't medical cannabis users from legal states try taking road trips to go on their vacations and holidays?

Just curious, that's all. It just doesn't compute to me, because personally I wouldn't want to take my chances on mailing or fedexing that shit... and transporting it in a car responsibly and intelligently is practically fool-proof, as long as you don't smoke on the road.

Just thinking out loud.

8 zips in NY is not so good, lot depends on the jurisdiction, how the DA is feeling on the day he sees case info, etc.
if a first offense in the state, expect a much better deal, good lawyer as always is well worth it

I hope you really don't believe that. Possession means possession. Now it may give you an alibi to fight it in Court, but doing what you say doesn't automatically save you.....
