Acid Reflux and weed

I wonder if its healthier to just down a spoon of baking soda whenever it occurs. All these chemicals in these pills I dunno what harm they cause when taken daily. Losing weight can also help acid reflux something about the way your stomach sits if its too big. Also many things can cause acid reflux that you're not even aware of like for me I get it from watermelon,tomatos,peppers,oranges,garlic.. and many foods you buy may have it burried in the ingredients and you dont reaize it. really the marijuana smoking only makes it slightly worse enough to notice it imo.

I dont get problems from smoking but I love beer and spicy food. Zantac 150 and gasex to the job for me. It works try it. But take them before you smoke.

First of all gerd is made worse by many things,chocalate,caffiene , smoking , foods with high acid content like tomato juice and sauce.
I have a hiatle(spelling)hernia and barrets asophagus from it.
I have tried many medicines for it and the only one that works for me is protonix.It would be very expensive without insurance just as nexium is,but for me it is way better than nexium.You need to talk to your doctor about gerd and have him prescribe you something like these meds.Over the counter meds are okay unless you have a bad case of it as i do ,then you will need something stronger like protonix.
hope this helps.

I had GERD. Doctor put me on Aciphex and went away.

I got it again 10 years later, Prilosec OTC worked

But you have to cut off whatever triggers it

I cut off coffee at first, but found that creme in the coffee helps

maybe you should eat something absorbent before you smoke, like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich

Letmeout,there is a new PPI called Dexilant that I got some samples for. Protonix doesn't work for me anymore. It is a time released capsule and works great. It is 60 mgs instead of the 40 in Protonix. I only have to take one each day and so far it is working well. But I know it is expensive so I just keep asking for more samples,Protonix is expensive enough! I ended up taking 3 each day,and then it started giving me headaches. There is a new surgery to repair the esophaegeal sphincter and the hernia.

you want to eat some complex carbohydrates, especially before bed or before you smoke or before the times you generally suffer. these will soak up and neutralize the acids.

crisps (chips i think you yanks call them :D ) , toast, crackers, gram crackers (we call them digestive biscuits :D ) that kind of thing

Thats why many GERD and IBD sufferers end up eating refined sugar and carbs. Some of us cannot eat fiber at all.

I have Terrrible Acid Reflux, I am now taking 80mg of omeprazole (prilosec) by RX 40 in morning 40 in eav. It helps SO MUCH!

I get extreme stomach pains after eating (anything except saltines). The only thing that seemed to help was smoking a bowl. It would help for 5 min and then pain would come back.

I started vaping again and it has made a world of difference. I would look into vaporizing (at low temps) as it is much easier on the body.

Also I have changed my posture as well which seems to help. but I did get pains from smoking :( I actually had confused my heartburn for Asthma attacks. Now that I recognize it for what it is I havent had any asthma problems in several months! Havent even used my rescue inhaler either

GERD makes you cough a lot and get wheezy like you have asthma. And gives you a sore throat.

Well I've been on omeprazole for almost 2 weeks, and I'm still getting mad pains and nausea when I smoke. I don't know what's wrong with me...

I can personally testify that DGL (Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice Root Extract) chewable tablets help to counteract acid producing things like beer.

Hey guys,

I have joined IC in hope that someone could help my seemingly incurable case of acid reflux and weed. I read that some people have similar problems.

To set the record straight, when I smoke weed, even on an empty stomach (with no food nearby to munch), I get immense stomach pains and nausea. Sometimes I wanna throw up.

It mostly correlates with how high I get:
bowl = I'm cool
J = I'm not cool
bong = definitely not cool
blunt = peace guys

If anyone has a pill or habit that works for them please share. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You can put Ice in your bong and cool the smoke and all will be well. If you drink a lot of soda switch to diet and also all will be well. I drink about a gallon of soda a day (yeah i know) it used to be full test and I had reflux BBAADD. My mailman came into my store and saw me in pain and asked what was the problem he says "hell son your full test your gonna burn,if it can eat up a nail wth you think it's gonna do to you?" I took his advice and with in 2 weeks I was drinking 1 1/2 gallons a day with now more reflux.

I have reflux. Battled it for years. First of all, if mj is making you sick, don't have any for a while until you get things normal.

I used to get reflux so bad that my body would mostly shutdown. My eyes would glaze, I would be crazy quiet (which was a tale tell sign for my wife), and my whole body would swell. Reflux sucks. I am surprised that mj makes it worse, I would think it would help. Personally, I only recently learned about the medical properties of mj and only started using it about a year ago (before that about 20 years ago in high school). So I don't know how mj and reflux work together.

As you may be able to tell, I haven't had a reflux episode for over a year. I used to get them as much as several times a week. What I did was use priolosec. Prilosec is amazing stuff and will stop reflux in it's tracks. Also, after using it a long time it will allow your body to heal from the damage of your past reflux episodes. This healing goes a long way to preventing further episodes.

After about 3 years of using prilosec I tapered down the frequency of taking it. Now I don't take it at all and am episode free.

Don't f@*$ around with reflux, go SEE A DOCTOR and get an endoscopy and probably a colonoscopy. Cancer of the esophagus is BAD. You could also have serious stomach problems, you won't know until you get checked with a camera.

I have to do this 2x a year. It's not fun but it's better than dying of cancer.

A few things you can do for relief of symptoms: Papaya Enzyme, Baking Soda and Bananas.

For some Hot sauce and Apple Cider Vinegar (I know this seems counterproductive) work well, but ONLY for SOME.

Most importantly GO SEE A GI DOCTOR!

I've been dealing with this problem for years. Reflux and peptic ulcer syndrome, Barretts Esophagus. Smoking irritates the stomach,and throat, increases acid production and causes reflux. I've tried all the pills. Currently, I take prilosec at night before bed, and tagemet all day long, starting when I wake up. I take 2 of the 200 mg tabs 2 or 3 times a day. For whatever reason, tagemet, the original, works best for me. Also, avoid chocolate, caffeine, juices, tomato sauce, and any kind of carbonated soda. Eat small, frequent meals. Keep something in your stomach.
Valium or Xanax also help if things get bad.

ve suffered with this for at least 7 years now and only recnelty found something that supresses this for me...omeprazole 20 mg 1 a day and i dont get any problems now at all!!!

GERD makes you cough a lot and get wheezy like you have asthma. And gives you a sore throat.

I disagree with this completly. I have GERD and asthma and the only time i cough is from BHO. My friends who dont have either cough like their dying.

I find that pot helps a lot with the nausea i get from eating to much or when i feel like i'm about to throw up.
