No worries Milehigh - If you were to make a tea and monitor pH it will rise as microbial action takes place. Many organic nutrients have low - low pH numbers when first mixed. It will rise once activated.

It's perfectly applicable just mixing and pouring. Microbial action will take place in the sol just like it would in a tea. The tea method is typically more efficient however. Regardless - it's all good without resi's and air stones. Just apply shortly after mixing. If left without air infusion the microbes will inactivate and the solution can become some what dormant.

Any microbial boosting agents will effect the pH and hence absorption quality of your solution. It could indeed improve your system or visa versa - I'd start with the basics imo and add as I go if I feel specific ingredients are needed. Keep it simple.

Jmansweed,

Thanks so much for this incredibly informative post. It really should be required reading for any new grower and part of the New Grower forum.

After having a fair amount success using the MoonshineMan's organic soil mix, I've wondered if there is a possibility I could improve further by broadening my use of nutrients.

I've been researching a lot of the same nutrient lines that you tested in the first run and I was quite pleased to find out that you're testing backed up my basic theoretical outlook on the Earth Juice and Canna-Bio lines specifically.

The other nutrient line that I've been looking closely at recently has been Humboldt Nutrients. I'm quite eager to see your testing results for the next run, and I'll also be doing some additional research on the other lines you're considering including in the run.

Once again, I appreciate you sharing your hard work with us!

Kobi

I've been narrowing down the next run.

Botanicare
House and Garden
Old Age organics
Roots organics
Humbolt Nutrients
A 100% living organic soil test w/ added organic teas only

Only a few of the above lines have been purchased - I'm still in the consideration stage. It takes me about 5 months to spit out a solid comparison - and then info still trickles out as I analyze information further. I'm planning this one more interactive however, and will post as I go - at least some info.

I was planning to post details in a few weeks.

In reference to the CO2. I've had documented increased production with additional CO2 enrichment numerous times. It's effectiveness in every grow is a different story. With-out describing specific environmental differences among my set-ups, and explaining sheer quantity of plants in a single space I can't properly state any real increase production numbers. I can state a few broader conclusions I've found.

Any grow in a sealed (no intake) environment benefits greatly - first because of the simple fact CO2 is unavailable. Secondly, because we control the levels and can influence growth more effectively.

In my experiences smaller grows typically thrive just as good with solid forms of intake and proper ventilation throughout the grow. They absolutely get a boost from CO2 - just nothing tremendous for me.

If I grow larger systems. 8 or 9 1000 watt lights in one room, and run big plant numbers, CO2 enrichment greatly increases production. No where near 50%?! - more like 15%. The cost of my grow increases also - more water - more heat - more humidity - more food - more fuel to burn. It out weighs the cost in larger grows imo. Meaning the increased production more than pays for the increased cost. Still however, after calculating the numbers (including cost) I think more like a 12% avg increase is more appropriate. Thats substantial when considering the production from 9000 watts.

I'm sure some growers do find serious production increases with enrichment. Just remember, all other components of your grow should be consistent, predictable and healthy - then it's time for CO2. Many growers try adding it to soon, when priorities should be elsewhere. IMO they infrequently reap all the rewards as a result.

I think it would be interesting to see what results you get with the lucas formula or GH floranova line. I may have missed it but what equipment were you using to measure brix levels?

Jmansweed - Good golly that must have been a nightmare to keep organized and on track with. Good overall description of what your processes were and the results. I appreciate your hard work and willingness to share.

So much work--thanks for the compiling.

personally, i'm a fan of Advanced Nutrients but so pricey.

Would a mix as follows even come close for consideration in your testing?

Floranova bloom - lucas plus;
floralicious plus
hygrozyme
Great White mycorrhizae
kool Bloom

other additions may be
aquashield (old hydroguard )
pro silicate

This recipe is being looked at with an eye for cost.

peace,fungi & enzymes

Thanks Milehigh.

Would you tell me where the source is for a great white replacement?
Are hygrozyme & great white the same?
Personally I've never used silica ,just read using a teaspoon or two early was good,,, Any comments on it being necessary?

I am going to use flora gro & bloom so I can play with the ratio if nec. i want to save $ without losing my yield or quality and I thought I'd try lucas plus one or two things. With AN it's costing too much. I think they divide it up into too many bottles designed to sell more, but AN grows great weed so what to do?

molasses or bud candy?

AND most importantly, do you Jmansweed, think that the lucas formula with one or two additions ...or none....could compete with earth juice ( too high maintenance ) or other formulas that you're trying?

Thanks again for sharing........peace

Milehigh,

Thank you very much for your reply.

let's digress; I've been growing awhile but not very educated on the nute part of it all.
As far as nutes I am using AN conneseur with most goodies and following their guidelines so basically following a list and adding as specified and honestly not really knowing whats doing what.

You say it's all in the grower. I'm hoping most of it is in the environment and what's left would be the addition of a quality feeding program and this is what I want handed to me. haha
Really, I could use some help with a solid quality feeding plan. And this is where it gets cloudy cause everyone has ten different ideas and then some.

Thanks for clarifying that GH will never compete with earth juice. That is exactly the type of information I'm looking for.

I agree that the room needs dialed in and that the proper seed needs cracked but nutes are a part of it and at this point is where I am so I'm here garnering. I accept that I don't know what each product does. I do know I can copy a great formula and get better results than years of sorting it out on my own. Again I've got the hands out.

currently; ebb & flow with buckets
2k sodium for flowering --about 50w/ft.
canopy I can keep at desired 77
water temp, 71 all day & night
rh 50 - 60 %..I do have a dehuey waiting but must use air cond with because of heat and not doing so yet.
ph 5.6 --I let fluctuate between 5.3 and 6.1

currently working sensi star from paradise. a very healthy eater.

Now Milehigh , I quote you
" You're worrying about too many things that aren't important. These are little tweaks and adjustments you do down the road. For starters you have too many other things to worry about. Such as having a perfect atmosphere, a discreet secure location and high quality genetics. Not to mention the ability to read your plants. I've seen headies come down from Miracle Gro... it's all in the grower."

How can you presume what I should worry about?,,Offering what I "need" to do?, my ability??

Really,,, with all due respect what I need to learn is what I am asking about. Thanks for your consideration

One quality feeding program ....

Thanks again for your work Jman

peace ,love and earth juice nutes

Bud Bug

General Organics - Just so you know that line is no 100% organic but close enough Bio Marine (obviously) is the only non vegan products in the line but the others have no animal by products in the manufacturing process.

As for Bud Blood well I think that product is a waste along with all the other bath tub flower enhancers (Bloosom Blaster/Bloosom Blood)that were around longer then Bud Blood. I'd say 30% of people who use it will see faster flower onset but like you said not any difference in flower weight. Some people have reported a loss in the amount of resin production when using those products but that can be attributed to other variables or using too much of it. Also those products contain Gibberellic acid which can be a double edge sword. It can enhance flower growth but can also stretch plants out or hermie them. Some outdoors guys use those products to also make plants flip faster. Just load them up with much higher concentrations of the products and the combo of Gibberellic acid/phosphorous causes the plant to flower early.

Now for yields there are just too many variables BUT the one that is the most important and this is from guys that I know who can pull of 2lb out of PK (40-49 plants per light) with just 7/9 days of veg is their rooms are dialed in. That means they have 100% control over night/day time air movement, humidity and temperatures. Their food choice range from Advanced/GH/Technoflora/you name it.
