aS of 5/6/10 state o maine dept of heAlth and human sacrifice"DHHS".Is take application's for the 8 dispenseries that will be allowed at this time.To apply you must cut them[DHHS who is notorious for losing millions of our tax payer dollars] a check for 15 thousand dollars. If you are NOT one of the 8 chosen they will refund you back a check for 14K.Guess the cost just to apply is a grand....can you say political money grab...dont you think they dont already know who and where those first 8 dispenseries are gonna be owned and operated by....imho its more about the tax revenue then helping us patients...rant over E.C

Yup and whoever get the contracts will be millionaire's. I don't plan on using the dispensaries myself but others will need to.
Any info on what kind of quality and price expectations were placed on tese applicants from the state? My feeling is there are lots of good growers in Maine. However with a limit of five patients per caregiver the good growers will get maxed out really quickly.
What do y'all think

Caught the local news last night when they were talking about maines new Medical M.J rules and regulations...As of may 7 there is an open enrollment for dispenserys.Anyone who meet requirments can apply for the permit from DHHS. June 25 they will stop taking aps and by july 9th the 8 locations should have been choosen...The state is also asking all medical M.J patients to sign up on the states registry by the january of 2011 or be out of compliance......My first call of the morning will be to my laywer to see if the state can force me to give up my "hippa" rights...I truely believe what goes on between me and my doctor is PRIVATE and someone[maybe me]will have to fight to maKe it so....the state so screwed up when they put the dept of health and human sacrifice[DHHS] in charge rather then the dept of agriculture.....can you sat clusterfckkkk ..rant over..E.C

Unfortunately your lawyer probably advised you that the Maine state bar association has advised all their members, it is a conflict of interest to represent any MM groups in the state of Maine at this time.

Thats interesting, as the state recommends any group wanting to participate seek legal council...sounds like a catch 22 situation.

can someone point me to an article describing the caregiver laws in maine? Are they set in stone yet or are they still figuring things out?

If someone knows any info, that would be great!
As of yesterday 7/10 The DHHS made thier dession of which groups will run maine's dispenseries
1, Northeast patients group of Portland- will have 4 permits
2. Safe alternatives of Fort kent- will have 1 permit
3. Remedy compassion center of East wilton- will have 1 permit
The last 2 permits up for grabs will go through another application process to find a suitable business model.....
After that news;
I signed my paper work and sent it off for my permit to grow my own. As i see it I have no other choice but to be compliant and legal, instead of haveing to buy my smoke from a legal store or take my chances on the underground market..... Guess ill never see the insides of one of those places.
Cant really see how the nonprofit status is going to sift down to mean the smoke they sell will be reasonable priced for us patients,To me it means while the monopoly dispensery owners are making money hand over fist ,they wont be paying taxes into the state...Also kinda funny how the group that helped craft the new law[berkly group/northeast patient] gets the biggest chunk of the pie...Guess it just politics as usual in the state ....Being a farmer ,who's working with p.r.o.p to design garden prototypes, having seen the maine state coop extention program up close and personal[ever seen thier 20 acre tomato farm under glass??] Along with the agriculture program the universary of maine has,Makes me really wonder why we needed ANYONE from outa state to make this program work..Again the state throws away an oppertuity to provide a system that allows farmers and patients of maine to get ahead instead they cash out to folks from away ,for what??? securiety issues?? nothing any local couldnt figure out...good camera/alarm system,a way to lock up meds like a pharmacy,...oh well welcome to maine..Enjoy the winters and invest in a genni for power outages..No fun trying to keep babbies alives when the power goes out for weeks ie; ice storm of 98 .....good luck to ye :ying:.......E.C

I am hearing that prices could be as high as $400 an oz. That sounds way high. I also read that Sheriff Dion is on the Board of Directors for Northeast. Is there any truth to that?

"We are encouraged that Northeast Patients Group has named Cumberland County Sheriff Mark Dion to its board of directors. Dion was an early advocate of medical marijuana, but a vocal opponent of general legalization. He will bring a law-enforcement perspective that should be valuable in determining the safest ways to distribute the drug."

The board members get paid? Just a little conflict there?
Hmmm :chin:

I think around $250 is fair. Have friend who works at dispensarie out west and they are getting $200-$250. I guess supply and demand also play a part, too:)

Yeah, I think that is a huge conflict of interest. Same guy that used deputies to help him get his housechores done a few years back. Guess when you are Sheriff and there isn't anyone to lay the smack down, you can do as you please. Happy Early retirement Dion.

If thats true, medical grade M.J for 200-250 ,Id consider that fair but wont hold my breath ...
Just saying "medical grade"[add a 100$] then throw in any designer name [add a 100$] at a boutique in portland[add another 100] bet you wont see the price for something reasonably tasty for under 300$ :dance013:
I hope your righter then me.

I say 300-350. Thats close enough to black market to give good growers incentive to go legal, and would also give the private caregivers an edge over the dispensaries.

I'm assuming that insurance companies aren't going to reimburse patients for MM, any word on this?

Cant see "maine care" picking up the tab for 5 z's a month.Wouldnt be comfortable useing my tax dollars to pay for others smoke...Let em buy or grow there own like the rest of us/
