Use a speed square.

Very important!

So you got your finger caught in the cut? like between one piece of wood with a cut in it...WTF? Lol....sorry lola...that is odd. I have cut hundreds of yards of lumber, and have never even heard of that one.

only thing i could figure is if she was ripping a 2x for some reason.

if it is on a cross cut, move your hand further from the blade, please lola.

SWEET! SEND TICKET, WILL TRAVEL! :)

Thanks for all the posts everybody! It was sure nice to read them after a day like today!

How I caught my little finger in 2 x 4 : OK, I was cutting a stud out of my way with a reciprocating saw, but them nails would not let go of the stud! So brilliant me, I did what I could with tools, and finally decided to grab the cut of the 2 x 4 and pull it out of the wall!

So my little finger was in the cut when I was pulling, then the 2x4 snapped back! The nails were not giving when I pulled on it!

Then my finger was stuck inbetween the 2 cut ends of a 2x4 that was nailed to the wall still! OUCH!

I wuz trapped!

But I finally got my window put in today, and I still got to put in a couple of electric outlets and fix the vinyl siding on the outside, then I will be done.

A/C is still in it's box, cuz I am too wore out to waller it in the window tonite.... hahahaha

window is 36 x 52 inches tall.

Here is another funny story. OK I thought the rough opening tag said that it was supposed to be a 36 x 52 inch hole....

but really it was supposed to be 36 1/2 inches x 52 1/2 inches rough opening.

I finally found the right tag under the window! AFTER I BUILT IT!

OH NO! I thought, I am screwed!!!!!!!!

But since everything was true, level, and square, the window slid into it's hole, except a one corner....

So I whacked the corner and the header above it with my hammer, and slid that sucker right on in there.

It is as tight as can be though!

That will teach me not to use a sticker on a window, next time I will measure it myself .... hahahahahahahaahahah

who puts rough opening stickers under the window? I mean really! Hahahahaha The damn window was sitting on the sticker the whole time.....

I am glad I am a good carpenter or I would have had to rip it all back out and start again..

 Woohoo!

you should stick a wedge on top of the cripple where you knocked it upward, or it may settle and put the window in a bind.

good idea, but I only knocked it about 1/32 of an inch.... ;)

Sun was shining in my new winder this morning! I am loving it.

I am gonna watch True Blood n wire a couple outlets afterwards...

A huge new window will only let in more heat, but at least you have an A/C to battle all that extra new heat you allow in.

Well, I gotta have a window big enuf to put an air conditioner IN! lol. That wuz the original problem. small windows. (hey, I was broke the week I bought windows in the house building project)

But I have built 2 houses mostly by myself on a pay as you go basis. No mortgages, no payments. No debt.

i hated every minute of it too... lol. I wanna win the lottery and make a contractor's life a living hell.. heehee... (I know how to do it myself, so I will be wanting perfection from contractor.. lol)

Straight stud reporting for duty Ma'am. ;)
Nuthin worse than cheap ass studs,Lola:laughing:

ooh, that was my first and worst mistake... getting involved with 50 cent studs.... heeheeheehee

I am black and blue and several colors in between over here after my adventures... lol.

the reason for that space is for typical expansion and contraction of the building to never get a chance to break that window glass...

im curious though,
since you know your way around the building trade... why not just build a through wall spot for the AC to sit and not take up window space???

Yuck. Who wants an air conditioner hanging in a hole all the time? Too much winter wind.

Plus it is ugly. Girls don't like ugly things... ;)

and yes, I wish I had that extra half inch, but I am way too lazy and stoned to rebuild the framing if I can make it work like it is.
Plus, I ain't obsessive compulsive or anything.

I am just glad my winder is in there! Yippie.. I do a happy dance..

Last nite I finished running the electric wire, drilling holes, etc.

Then I tightened the whole thing up with some doubled up studs on each side of the window.

I put about 40 nails in there.... Window nice and supported now and functions SUPERBLY.....

now I got rewire the outlet and flip the breaker. I think I will add another outlet so I don't have to splice the wire... it is a little short to go back to it's original home.

I just got my Sourbubble buzz back on.... (that is why window is 1/2 short... lol)

ready to go to work again.

Later alligators. Gonna turn that AIR on in an hour or two... ;)

it's gettin hot again.
