Adding more small lights to even out the spectrum? - 1000W MH

Hey guys,
We are running a 1000W MH grow in a DR 150 tent (Check my sig for great pics, updates, etc.) and have a little extra cash.
We should have around $50 and are wanting to add a little more light in.
We want some light for flowering and I think we need to add some more of the red spectrum. Am I correct in thinking this?

What bulbs/lamps would be best to do this?
We already are somewhat crowded with the big 1000W MH so these bulbs will have to be small and hoodless.

Thanks for any help!

I'm running a mixed spectrum right now and I love the results. I don't think I'll ever go back to one spectrum again. I have a 600w HPS and a 400w CMH and the plants grew with the best of both worlds, they had awesome veg, tight nodes, and at 2 /12 weeks of flowering are starting to show great trichome coverage.

It sounds like your best option is to hang some CFL's with a heavy red spectrum, or perhaps some LEDs. My LEDs are DIY and were more than $50, but perhaps you can get one of the UFOs.

Yes, I'm thinking CFL's are probably my best option as they won't put off alot of light and are somewhat cheap.
Do you have recomendations on which CFL's to use and there estimated cost?
I'd probably get 4 - 1 in each corner of the tent.

A 1 kW light in a 5x5 tent is a perfect sized light for your space. I wouldn't put any CFL's in the tent just so the plants have more space to stretch out and grab that light. That is just my experience growing in tents for the past few years.

It's true, it is the perfect size :D
If I have the CFL's high enough up though (They will have more head room than where the 1kw is because of the hood+ducting) they shouldn't take up any space and throw out some more lumens at the right spectrum.

I have a little extra money on a giftcard so might as well right?

Just need a recomendation on types + prices?

:thank you:

AHHH lower lighting! Great idea!
Less popcorn and better bud density :)
Where exactly did you put the light in relation to the canopy?
Also do you remember what brand?
Which brand is best?
What wattage?

flower-2700k-3000k warm white (8,000-10,000 lumens per sq ft)
From my research this is what I found :D
I need to find some medium sized red spectrum bulbs and we will be good to go!

Okay..
So I have around $50 on a lowes gift card..
Should I get one or two more fans and add better air movement
or
get cfl's and add better lower lighting + red spectrum?

Reason I am wanting these so bad is because a very experienced grower friend was semi-shitting on us using a MH for flowering because it doesn't have enough red spectrum. My partner stood up for it but after thinking more some red spectrum would be nice.

What do you guys think?

What do you guys think?

You have 1000w so you have adequate lighting, even using the MH.

It is true that different spectrums will produce different buds. The common belief is that HPS bulbs produce larger, slightly fluffier buds, MH produce smaller, denser nugs, and the combination produces medium sized, dense nugs.

So I can understand wanting to get the extra lighting.

However, if your temps and air movement aren't as good as they can be then you should improve on that area first. If your temps are too high then you'll lose both density and weight, and if your humidity is too high and circulation too low then you risk bud mold.

So if we get a combination then it's perfect :D

My temps are ranging from 70 - 84 on average and this is with 90 degree week too. The house A/C coverers it pretty well.
We have TONS of CFM going through the tent. Well we have a 250 CFM can fan with carbon filter cooling the tent into the attic, then we have a 700 CFM 6" fan cooling the light.

We have a fan pictured here moving the canopy think this is enough or should we add another small fan hanging down or one cooling under the canopy? It's hard because we have boxes keep things level.

So what would be best..
Red Spectrum CFL's for better nugs,
Or
Another fan for better air circulation.

What spectrum MH?

What spectrum MH?

There are many different spectrums for Metal halides .
I would check what spectrum you have first ,though they all have more blue than a standard HPS.
I would spend the money on air flow!
