Sir Tokes DWC buckets

Alright here is the scoop

I am running some Big buckets!

-Room temp 82-84 at all times
-Water temp 60
-Ph 5.5
-400 watt mh/hps
-Flora nova + h202

Any other questions feel free.

I had some crazy mister system befor and got root rott late into the grow and that made me a bit sour. So i went with DWC, Hopefuly it goes smooth.

the little ladys are starting off a little slow but my temps were almost 90 for the first week "oops" now not so bad.
I hope everyone will stick arownd and take this ride with me, it is my first DWC besides the aerogarden.

that's the thing with deep water cultures, you need a water chiller to keep water temps down. nothing worse for dwc grows then warm water, it will starve the roots of oxygen and cause root rot.

i would consider using coco coir in pots watered by dripper or by hand once a day. or getting a chiller for the dwc you have going now, either that or add ice to the water a few times a day. warm water in dwc is a big subject, you can find tons of info on this subject.

It has been 88 deggrees here for a couple weeks, and my basement floor is cold to the touch, my lights have been on the buckets for couple weeks now, and the water is cool to the touch. So i hope my cold ass old basement will be enuff.

a cold cellar floor is indeed useful, if the water temps stay low you won't get root rot normally speaking
good growings

i usually start my yearly dwc in feb on a cold basement floor and have found that growth slows way down below 65 and have never had any problems with high temps of 75.

While 75ºF is on the high side of the "accepted" range it isn't all that bad. High temps don't have to mean rot. I ran a hot water DWC well into the 80s-90s with no trouble. My guess as to why I had none of the trouble others have had is I avoid organics and anything with "zyme" in the name. Note I'm NOT suggesting high temps are good. Simply that they don't have to be the death sentence we once thought they were.

i didn't mean to advocate 75 as ideal, just the upper range. and if ya do run on the high side ,beneficial microbe are protective

There's some shit they sell called Hydroguard or something along those lines. Put it in the water to protect against root rot. I'd spent the $30 or whatever it costs and get it if you can't get a chiller.

OK So im running into probs again. Feel like a goof but i kinda want to go with soil now. Im having so many issues. Yes i know that it is my fault, hopefuly someone can help me and i can get on my way.

My water temp and room temps are good,ph is good.

Still i get weird spots and droppy leafs.
Its a pretty big piss off, i start them in the aerogarden they do awesome, grow like crazy then as soon as i put them in the hydro down stairs growth slows, and they die... ahhh wish i could figure this out.

soil is very forgiving and a stable medium. However, most hydro setups will out perform soil by a large margin.

i would sterilize ur hydro setup (w/o plants :) ) use peroxide and some antibacterial soap yes....( dish soap!) my quess is u have a disease that keeps showinup when udo ur change.

do u see or have ui seen any fungus gnats??? if so check ur roots for little black worms (gnat larvae) theyre eatin ur roots and making disease easier to get to your plant(s)
they r tiny like 1/4 inch or smaller
if u try peroxide n water will take out the larvae and only (etch) ur roots a little dont go too strong w peroxide or u will kill ur girls.

BUZZ!

I would oxygenate the water.
A cheap air pump run to a couple of air stones from the aquarium shop oughtta do it.

that sure does not do it...

i have 2 large airpumps running at all times... that wa the first thing i did :).

Im thinking the hydro might be better when its -25 out side. Sooo Im going soil intill it gets a little cooller out side. my water temp jumped to 80 last night, I am having sooo much trouble holding temps in the water. Im sure that has to be the issue.

At 70-80 degrees you're just blowing bubbles.

I'm sure bubbles enjoys it and I hope he's wearing protection.

What you need to do is oxygenate the water, your roots are suffocating.

Get the water down to 60-70 so your DO levels will get back up to 10-12mg/l.

Extra pumps will help create more turbulence and if you let the returns fall from greater heights creating mini waterfalls, the resultant splashing will help aerate even warmer liquids.

Hang in there dude.
