Cutting clones from mothers - QUESTION

hey guys could use some help here. got a few questions.

1.) If I cut a branch off and it has 2 or even 3 tops. Do I want to cut off the smaller tops and leave only 1? or is it better to have 2 or 3?

2.) Do the tops need 2 sets of fan leaves or will 1 branch work? shit, does it even need fan leaves? could it just be a long top?

PF Tek! memories!

1) I would cut the branch into 3 clones for a better chance of survival, but 1 big clone should root fine. Trim the leaves.

2) What's a "long top" without leaves? Shoots? Any small leaves will work. My clones are usually 2" long.

That does bring up a good point on cloning I have not run across. How big are most people's clones? Everyone says x number of inter-nodes.. But HOW TALL/LONG are most people's clones?

The longer the cut, the more transpiration is required to support it. Transpiration takes roots and, D'oh! We don't have any roots. I keep mine at 3-4 inches with half of that in rockwool. I clone dome free in RH as low as 15%

Longer cuts tend to wilt and may require domes. Once plants become dependent on a domes lethal levels of RH, they need to be weaned slowly.

pf tek memories is right! Had to smile when I saw that. I personally went with the martha stewart wardrobe closet with pans and casing. Not to drift from your question , Just had to hollar at the pftek crew.

I can take a 12" cut, but freezerboy is right, I have to dome cuts that big for almost a week, and then you have to leave it cracked for a day or two, before you can remove it completely.
most times I take a 2"-3" cut, with 2 nodes below "ground" with the growing tip and 2 clipped fans above to conserve moisture, and to reduce the light hitting the leaves so they don't wilt.

it will also be pretty strain dependent: I notice I have to baby the shit out of chocolope to get it to root, but my grape ape I can toss a cut onto a wet towel and have roots in 10 days.

I root in straight coco, or rapid rooters or rockwool (my least fave), depending on what the dispensary I'm vending to, prefers.

rapids are the fastest, and coco is the easiest, and rockwool just sucks when you do it right next to these two mediums.

I like something about 4 or 5 inches but if your environment and materials are good even really small cuttings stand a good chance of rooting. Also bigger ones root really well but as already stated ... they're BIG!

I agree with Reckon above; The best medium i ever used was just coco fibre on it's own.
