Medical Grade Pesticides?

Now I grow hydro, RDWC, but I like to keep things on the natural side, beneficials, compost teas, etc. I have recently had to use a single dose of Floramite in early veg and on my moms to keep the mites from having their way. I felt really guilty doing so, as FloraMite is pretty poisonous and is also made by Dow, not my favorite company.

But looking into it here on some threads, people are really doing some stupid things with their plants! Floramite 4 weeks into bloom! Physan 20 in the res during the final flush? (I have never used Physan 20 on live plants, only for cleaning stuff between cycles). Eagle 20EW during bloom. And some of these people do foliar sprays of this kind of stuff during bloom! WHAT? WHY? What is wrong with people? Don't you know you or someone is gonna smoke this stuff? I feel bad spraying Azatrol during flowering, but it seems to be a pretty low priority compared to what people are doing!

Also, by regularly using these products, you are supporting these mega agrobusiness companies like Monsanto and Dow Chemical...why do we want to grow cannabis with their products?

try spinosad its a natural pesticide made from furmented bacteria found in soil safe for humans toxic to all sorts of pest the stuff is amazing & takes very little for effectiveness.

people are nuts its seems that alot of healthy people dont care cuz their healthy & feeling invisable but any unhealthy person definatley will care.

we're using a product called SNS-217 for mites....its food grade rosemary extract, and it works real well.its made by Sierra Natural Science...cant say enough good things about it.
you are able to spray 7-10 days before harvest...I haven't but they said you can
just my $00.02---have used it several times in different gardens--wiped mites out

I hate to use azatrol and even organic pesticides, but its better than smoking bugs .

Believe it or not, Azatrol is pretty benign. In a perfect world, you wouldn't need any pesticides, but bugs are bugs, so organic whenever possible. Can't wait for winter again though, those bugs don't stand a chance in that cold!

There is an dangerous lack of knowledge about pesticides and their -actual- toxicity. Most people just rely on what the chemical manufacturers say. Bad idea.

Even with organic pesticides it is important to apply early on in flowering and consistently if your garden has persistent pest issues. I have only used organic insecticides (mostly neem oil with a few other oils) with great success. Keep in mind that it is best to clean the plants with a spray of water before harvest though as even organics can persist for a while. Any insecticide can and will affect flavor and possibly other relevant factors.

Keep in mind that we are growing medicine for people who have compromised immune systems, systemic issues, and should generally be assumed to be in need of as clean and as high a quality medicine as possible. This is a serious responsibility.

Absolutely DO NOT give medicine to a dispensary or a person if you are not 100% sure that it is safe. I have thrown out pounds of cannabis before to ensure that my patients are ingesting only good medicine.

great thread Greenmopho :)

Mopho, you stopped by and commented on a pic of mine, saying "100% powdery mildew." The leaves were off outdoor plant, what can I use to spray and get rid of the PM? Like you I would like to use something not so nasty but that will get the job done. Any suggestions... also, can whatever you suggest also be mixed with Bt at the same time to be sprayed all at once? This is my first grow and a little help with ideas would be appreciated.

How far are the plants? If they are outside now, and you plan on harvesting in the Fall, then Eagle 20 might be an option, although I wouldn't use it if my plants were in the ground, as any pesticide like that will be in the ground run off. I would stick to using milk or Serenade otherwise.

Thanks for bring up what I've been thinking. I was in the nursery/garden center biz for many years am a certified Master Gardener. Any one using any chemicals natural, organic, or made by big AG. Please remember not to get any pesticides or herbicides on the skin, wear gloves, most of these chemicals are transdermal!! they are easily absorbed through the skin, enough of it over the years and you'll be smoking your own product for your chemo meds. Some pesticide are also organophosphates, nerve agents, if your lips start to numb or your tongue tingles you need help fast. Enough of my organic 2 cents.:thank you::smoweed:just make it organic. Remember don't panic if it's organic.

Good ventilation. good humidity 40 percent, and around 78 in temps for flowering... if not lower... this will keep the numbers at bay. Depends on what bugs. Sulfur burners are great for Powder Mildew, not when budding after 4 weeks. And i've always used Neem oil from teh start. just misting my plants.... also, Nematodes. Scratch that your Hydro...
