I think on thursday or friday on the Campbell Brown show on CNN, they had a women on who also claimed that everyone that worked on the Exxon Valdez spill is now dead.

When the women said it, Brown's eyes almost bugged out of her head. But she let it slide.
Try that with AC360, he wouldn't have let it slide.


I feel that this is an urban legend in the making.
I am no fan of big oil, but this is an outlandish claim.

Shell Oil Ex-CEO Warns “Whole Casing System is Deteriorating” Creating Oil Gusher

An Ex-Shell Oil CEO John Hoffmesiter says, “If you really want to stop a blowout the fastest way the most efficient way is you blow it in, you use explosives.”

However, he says that is extremely dangerous.

“A geologist would tell you… that the fragility, the hardness of that salt dome, that sits on top of these reservoirs — if you put lots of infantesimal number of cracks in that salt dome, you’d be creating a large seep, which you’d never stop, because nature finds a way to push oil and gas up through the seep,” Hoffmesiter says.

The Ex-Shell CEO has advocated for blowing the well. I did so long time ago in the beginning of this thread because I figured there would be no other way to stop this thing. The entire casing string is getting washed out more and more everyday this goes on.

Unfortunately, this blowout is so deep that this even seems like a loosing proposition. If the blow in failed then repercussions would be unstoppable. This is bad situation getting worse IMO. Hopefully, the relief wells work. The pressures they are dealing with are off the charts.

there's a reason they havent tried to blow it up, the consequences of failure would be worse than that of relying on the 2nd relief well to fix the problem. it's not realistic, it's a pipedream suggested by the media and a few proponents based on above ground sealing using explosives decades ago for natural gas wells!

The fact that he thinks it's a good idea is enough to make me think it's probably not. I just don't know if it's feasible at this depth.

BTW, they still blow wells on surface on quiet regularly. Sometimes it's the only to shut out the blowout. Your right though, if they do this in the Gulf and it fails the party is over. Maybe that's why he's suggesting it?

BP and their "experts" are against it..they hope to leave the apparatus in place so when the short attention span of the average American drone wears out it can be business as usual.

of course they use their "experts" to discredit the idea but there have been several successful underwater wells stopped by conventional explosives.

far as i can tell the majority of reputable unbiased scientists think the idea is a joke. never been tested, the geology doesn't support it, and the idea was only used above ground and for nat. gas...with much different geology and conditions...o well, this sucks either way

If the well head is gushing 60,000 barrels a day.... (current estimate as per several sites)

If you estimate that this well can contain appr. between 300 million - 1 billion barrels of crude oil you can better change the name in The Toxic Gulf of Mexico.Mother Nature can handle a bit of oil spill but this will be to much, especially when they gonna mix it with synthetic dispersant's.
