What's new

6.5x3.5 ft room suggestions. . .

I'm ready to start my next and biggest grow. The room is in a cool basement ( I could find out ambient temps) and measures 6.5 feet long and 3.5 feet wide with 6.25 feet of headroom so just under 23 sq feet of canopy space. I was thinking either 2 600W or 2 400W (air-cooled) lights for best coverage. plan on having about 18 chemdog clones in the space and was looking for advice on everything from what type of ventilation to maintain a temp of about 75 degrees F while keeping smell to a min to types of nutes. I was thinking monster grow 20-6-12 for veg and to jacks pro 14-5-38, @ 650 ppm @ 6.5 ph for flowering. Also, realistically, what type of yields could i expect from a room this big?

2 600's can produce 3 lbs every cycle if done with high plant numbers. 2 400's can produce 2lbs every cycle. The key is large amounts of small plants for those lights(like 4-9/sq ft). Straight into 12/12 from rooted clones. If you are limited to 18(take tons of cuttings before you flip to 12/12 for next time) then 1/sq ft is what I would start with, though you will need some veg time(probably to 10" to 12" then flip to 12/12) with that large of plants.

Heres a rough diagram of what I'd like. A 2 stage ventilation system So that one vortex fan pushes cool air in through the two cooltubes and out of a higher port on the same false wall the in port is located on.

A second vortex van will drive air in through the CF and out of the rool into a 6" or 8" duct that is currently connected to a kitchen range hood. Where do these hoods usually lead to and is that a good place to exhaust filtered air.

Lastly, The walls and ceilings will be covered with a reflective tarp and sealed as well as possible with duct tape to be relatively airtight.

Any obvious or not so obvious flaws with what I have planned?

going to be hard getting to everything in there once they are going! and if the false wall is your door that will be hard to keep light proof!i know you want as much as possible but with a narrow space and a false wall door you might be better off only going with one light and do plants in back only using half of space and then hang poly to reflect light and keep it from shining out your false wall! trying to fill all space is always the goal but making user friendly will probably get better results!if you want no smell leaving room make it as sealed as possible!very bad to find out after your in flower!seal and chaulk all gaps, joints and seams!

I have the exact same room dimensions to grow in. In that space I have found a vertical scrog gives me the best yield. I do have plant #'s to think about as well. I have done as many as 9 good sized plants in there and man it was crowded. 6 gave me the same yield as 9 with the same amount of veg time. Doing 6 in a vert setup almost doubled my yield on my last run, albeit with a slightly longer veg time. Next run I'll be more prepared and do two levels of 6 for a total of 12 with a shorter veg time and see where that goes. Oh, Im running a 1k HPS, no A/C, and a Dayton blower fan for exhaust. The room is in the corner of my garage so heat becomes an issue in summer so I shut down and concentrate on outdoors.
IMO 2 600's would be ideal for that space vert or horiz.

I'm thinking I might try a big tub soma style grow using scrog. What kinds of yields were you able to create with your set up?

Who knows where a range hood vent would lead to? it doesnt go to the central air system of the house does it?

I was having some serious heat issues some time ago. Adding the range hood from my kitchen to my garden (After a good bleaching) helps tremendously!

I called Home Depot to see the average CFM on Ranges & found out that it was more than I needed. They can go from 80 to 300 and up.. They are rated for both your CFM and Scones - apparently Scones are how loud they're running. I added a bathroom exhaust for my intake, and a range hood to exhaust with 4" dryer duct to my attic. Add some fans for the plants & I figured that would have to do for my first grow.

Peace.

Sones **, and it's a silly rating, decibels should be the only thing used for sound in my opinion. A scone is a bread. heh.

That looks like an awesome sized grow room dude. props!

they usually vent outside wall or back into kitchen after filter.look for a vent on your wall right outside the kitchen
