Acid Reflux and weed

Hey guys,

I have joined IC in hope that someone could help my seemingly incurable case of acid reflux and weed. I read that some people have similar problems.

To set the record straight, when I smoke weed, even on an empty stomach (with no food nearby to munch), I get immense stomach pains and nausea. Sometimes I wanna throw up.

It mostly correlates with how high I get:
bowl = I'm cool
J = I'm not cool
bong = definitely not cool
blunt = peace guys

If anyone has a pill or habit that works for them please share. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Straylite a big welcome to you to IC Mag. I have no answers for you. Have you ever tried edibles? There are many patients and members here so I think someone might have your simular condition and hope we can find some relief for you. DD

There are lots of PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitors) that you can try OTC if you haven't already tried some. That may help. Take it in the am. There are other things you can do,diet,when you eat,coffee,smoking cigs,etc. Zegerid is the newest one,it works pretty well but even OTC is pricey.

I get the same feelings! Your not alone that's for sure. My stomach likes to bubble immensely and I get pains on either side of my stomach. I was suggested to eat breakfast and drink more water. So far its working but if it gets worse youll see me at my doctors in no time.

My buddy gets these exact same pains, especially after taking HUGE rips. He prefers a small well filtered bubbler hit.
He also takes perscription anti-acid pills and they seem to help quite a bit.

Do you typically have a weak stomach?
Do you often get Acid reflux or just when you smoke?

This sounds like a problem that could be well address by a MD

I too have horrible stomach issues, but not from MMJ. It actually helps me. I have a few rules & things that work for me to help keep my stomach at bay. First I never smoke on an empty stomach. Same with most medications, they usually recommend eating something light with them. 2nd, I always have a glass of water near by while I smoke. As my throat is already hashed from vomiting every morning this helps keep things mellow. & third I use Milk thistle & it works wonders for me & it's over the counter meds/Herbs.
ps YOUR Doc would prob not recommend this but it works lol SUGAR! Lots of it helps tame acids. I forgot to mention I eat a lot of sugar in many ways when it's getting tough & it is a blessing when yr on Fire good luck friend. May peace find you soon.

I get heartburn from smoking certain strains of weed. I also get it from drinking tea...I guess I'm odd. I suggest using a vaporizer. Eating it will probably give you heartburn too if you are anything like me.

Posture plays a bit role in acid reflux. Some people have partial hiatus hernias that are not normally diagnosed as such, maybe because they're not older, overweight white women or whatever is the main group that gets them. Some Chinese internal martial arts like Taiji can cure these problems outright.

I don't have a weak stomach, I don't think. I get reflux from time to time, but it's always when I smoke.

What type/brand anti-acid pills does your buddy take? I'm very interested.

He said it started when he first took a huge rip out of my big 3 ft double percolated bong.. The thing was huge but the smoke was just too much or something.
Do you ever burp up smoke?
It's possible you are swallowing some?

I just asked my buddy for you and he says he was taking perscription prevacid and that worked fine but his doc now switched him to lansoprazole.

You will have to go to a doc to get these.. I wouldn't mention that it only happens during smoking. I'd just say that all over the counter stuff doesn't work for you.

Do you mean like tums and rolaids? They help, but the problem is too chronic to just keep eating them. You know?

dude, just get on an everyday pill like prevacid or something like that. I have the same problem, and unless you're willing to completely change your diet then the pill is the only answer. The prevacid is the best stuff that I've found.

yep prevacid works. its something about smoking it makes the muscles relax or something in your esophagus that makes acid come up more easier. i get this from smoking tobacco the only answer is prevacid or change your diet. what do you eat every day? any carbonated drinks like coke or pepsi? any spicy foods? try drinking more water too.

Ranitidine 150 mg. Target sells a generic brand cheap. It's strong medicine. Works for me every time.

Thanks guys. Glad to know I'm not alone. Sounds like Prevacid might be the answer.

Trust me, I have changed my diet. Less acidic stuff, not eating late at night, no spicy foods. It helps, but I still get the problems when I smoke.

Bromhexine is right. It's those damn esophagus muscles. They'll getcha.

I take Protonix for my acid reflux and it helps tons, it takes two or three days to start working but smoking weed also helps me, if I am out of either one I start hurting. I was actually in the medical trial when they were bringing Protonix to market, my first endoscopy showed that my esophagus was eaten to shit from stomach acid. I had heartburn all my life, just thought it was normal. If it is Prevacid you are taking lansoprazole is just the generic version, ask him for what options are available if you are experiencing GERD but not sure that is your situation. Best of luck.
