Air-Pots and Smart Pots

Hello all I was just wondering if any Irish growers are using either Air-Pots, or Smart Pots?

The basic idea behind them is their ability to expose the root tips to the air thus air pruning the roots, this stimulates the roots to send out more and more roots giving you a massive root ball for higher yield, that's the idea anyhow.

I put in an order for 25 X 1 litre and 25 X 10 litre pots to give them a shot in my upcoming vertical coco grow with SSSDH.

Mine should be here any day now and I'll get up some pics and info on them.

i used a big black plastic pot from a tree or something. anyway i drilled 1/4 inch holes all over it and it seems to be working better than normal.

Looking forward to see how they perform for you HGO, the theory behind them makes sense.

1 question tho, I've a ton of pots in the shed that ar used for pond plants.
You know the ones

Seems to me they might be a cheaper alternitive to smart pots?

tonto

i remember reading that airpots wernt that great and that if you got aphids or some other bug thed became a lot harder to get rid off because of those little holes or ''bug caves'' on the side.

Thanks man I can't wait to see how they turn out too, i will be growing SSSDH only so I'll stick 1 or 2 in normal 10ltr pots so I can get a side by side comparison going on. They should be here either today or Monday, I'm currently camped out in my safe house waiting for them to arrive, got some new bigger bubble bags coming today to finally sort out all the trim I got laying around.

Cookie I think that pot would be perfect, how many litres is it?

That is a major concern right there tonto, I can see that being a BIG worry, I'll just have to NOT get aphids then, see if I had of thought of that before I think I would have went with smart pots, the more I read about the 2, the more I'm swayed towards smart pots but I got air-pots so I'll have work away.

They should be here by Wednesday at the latest, as soon as they arrive my next grow can start. I'm starting to think I should have went with the smart pots but sure I'll just have to work with what I got.

high man, i hope you don't mind an American irish
posting in your thread, lol.

anyway, i got my Air-pots last week, 5x 1liter and 10x
1gallon (actually, i think they're 3 liters) so i haven't
had them long enough to give you any testimonials
from first hand experience. . .

but, i did a lot of research before i spent my money and
everything i read says these Air-Pots are the shit man!

here is a link to a thread that starts out discussing
smart pots and quickly add's discussion of the Air-
Pots to the mix.

Smart Pots

have faith man, i think you'll like them enough to order
more, lol

Nice amount of pots HGO
Did you leave any the shops for the rest of us :)

From what I've read the theory behind them is solid, be nice to see it in practise.

Are you gonna run a plant in a regular pot for comparrisons sake?

i will be as i recently bought some of the 1liters and
as i have been running a SOG in 1liter containers for
abou a year now, i'm anxious to see the difference
myself.

What are these blue valves on them?

those aren't valves man, just plastic screws to hold
them together, they are shipped flat and you have
to put the bottoms in and roll the sides together,
then you use one of those screws to hold it all
together, ...bigger pots need 2 screws.

I do all my vegging in the smallest air pots (forget the size). They certainly do create a fully structured root system far superior to ordinary pots. I then take that plant with the great root system and plant to a 3 gal normal pot for finish in flower with good results.

I tried smart pots but quickly moved on to air pots for all my plants. Smart pots are now in the garage collecting dust.
